What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

Renae

Not knowing the game plan right out of high school is not a problem. The best thing to do is to find a campus that makes you feel comfortable and somewhere you feel you can enjoy your time there so that you can then really figure out who you are and what your game plan will be.

The very first and most important thing is to make sure that the schools you are looking at are compatible to your major. Then you should visit the campus on a unofficial visit so that you might see the real side of things that are going on, not just the version they want you to see. Check around and ask students how they like the professors and their classes. Also, how the administration is about handling things that go on at the campus.

find a school that not only fits their ideal image but one that challenges them and is mostly tuned to their career goals.

Try to choose a college that represents where you want to be in four or more years not how you were defined in high school or how you think you want to be like in college. This will be where you develop and make more choices that are 100{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} your own than you ever have in your life. Check into what extra activities your school offers as they are what will set you apart from all other graduates. Your school and major will narrow down your peers but choosing extra activities helps you find others like yourself more than anything other social setting. If you are unhappy at a specific college don't give up on school in general. Search around for others and check them out before you switch. If you know what you don't like about your current college you at least know what to avoid from a potential future college.

If you are a parent ensure you keep tabs our your students grades. It is so easy for us to cover any problems we are having and hide them from you. Life is very fast past going off on your own for the first time. Sometimes I think it is better to start your child off at a community college rather than a university. It seems to be easier for some to adjust and a lot cheaper. My mom and dad divorced during my time here at school. Financially it has been hard for all of us. Be mindful and don't put too much pressure on your child. Keep a close watch on them. GOOD Luck...

My advice would be to visit the college you may be interested in, explore, talk to people and interact to see how you would fit in. Also consider what field you may want to enter while in college, but I highly suggest you do not base your college decision off of this. I suggest this because you may change your mind while in college after taking some classes. Once you have made a decision and are just starting school. Go to the activities offered for freshmen in the first semester. They are tons of fun and you will meet a lot of great people there. Do not let too much fun get in your way of studying to get good grades. Each year your financial aid will increase as long as your grades are satisfactory, so look at it as a motivation to do good in your classes.

Everyone needs to continue to express their indiviuality throughout their college years. That is the only thing that will separate you from everybody and will enable you to carry out your own set of morals and ideas while in school. As far as finding the right college, both the student and the parent should do extensive research. Not all colleges are the same.

Get to know other students on campus, don't be afraid to ask questions. Check out the student union building, cafeteria, library, gym, and extracurricular activities on campus.

As for finding the right college: Relax and breathe. If you or your child already have a major in mind, research which schools offer the best program for that area, then speak in depth with department chairs about what their schools have to offer. If you or your child have not narrowed down a specific major, opt for a school with a wide array of majors to explore. Visit the campus and pay attention to the surrounding area! You're going to be living in it for quite a while! Consider out of state schools. Although the tuition may be high, once granted residency, it may be cheaper in the long run than your in-state schools! As for making the most of the college experience: Embrace diversity and enter the world with an open mind. Thrust yourself out of your comfort zone. Set your priorities early and stick to them. Don't be swayed by peer pressure. Choose friends that promote a healthy lifestyle, have goals, and encourage you to reach yours. View change as an opportunity to grow. The the advice I will give students about finding the right college is find a college that not only have you major but many other resources. Many students make mistakes going to colleges just because they have thier desire major. College is far more than that. Going to one of the best colleges does not guranteed you everything you need. While choosing the college best for you think about availiabity of resources, social life, housing, meals, services the college provide for you, cost, intended major or minor, and get connected programs such as organizations, diverty summits, community involvement. Once you find the right college making the most out of the college is important. Get involved in in serveral organizations, social events, and on-campus programs. College is far more than eduacation to me, its a period of adult hood, responsibities, and new beginning. I came to college not knowing no one and to far from home to go visit very weekend, now I feel like I know the whole world and I could not feel better than what I am feeling now. Interact and invole yourself in the communities and around campus, there's no right way or wrong way.

Your first day there, when you're moving in be patient, and don't decorate until all of your family leaves. After they leave let your boxes explode and fully decorate the room and unpack your stuff, make it a home away from home. Also always make sure you understand the rules so you don't get off to a bad start with the administrators, once you know the rules, they won't bother you as much as they possibly might have. Lastly, get a calender, different colored pens too if you want, but get a calender to write down your classes and assignments on. As for finding the right college, well I got lucky, it's nice to have someone who actually went there talk to you, particulary if they know you really well to begin with, that helps ALOT. Keep an open mind but have some definite factors that help you rule them out. Also as confident as you may be about money, apply for scholarships, please, there are usually surprise supplies that add up quickly. Good luck.

Finding the right college is a tough decision. Visit many campuses to find which one you feel most comfortable with. Take a look at the surrounding area to find out its safety, community activities, job opportunities, and nightlife. Go into college with an open mind because there is so much to learn and to see. It is a wonderful experience to meet new people from different backgrounds and with different goals in life. It is not only a taste of freedom, but a new sense of responsibility and commitment. Breathe it in and embrace the experience.
