Eckerd College Top Questions

Describe the students at your school.

Emily

Eckerd students are incredibly unique and hard to describe. As a liberal arts school, it makes sense that there are a lot of hippies here. However, we also are Division 2 for athletics, so there are a good amount of people who enjoy to play sports as well. When I asked someone else how to describe the students at Eckerd, he simply replied, "happy."

Stacey

My classmates are intellectual and diverse in ideas that create very interesting discussions.

What can I say, Eckerd is diverse in a way that high school is diverse. It's like a bunch of random people who unwillingly go to the same school together. Almost everyone smokes pot and very few take advantage of the resources. It's not very diverse when it comes to cultures. I am one of maybe three indian people. Most of the people here are upper middle class white people which isn't bad, its just hard to meet people of different cultural backgrounds.

The student body; is very diverse. Eckerd has students from all over the world, a lot of which come from the North East United States. It seems that quite a few students come from well-off families, but you for sure do not need to come from money to go to Eckerd. Students on a regular basis show up to class in shorts, t-shirts, and sandals, although quite a number of students choose not to wear any shoes at all and walk around the school barefoot. There are not really any cliques or things like that at school, except for maybe with some of the sports teams, but overall everyone gets along with each other, which makes for a great time. There are a lot of politically awake students, although if you're not into talking politics just turn to your other side and start up a new conversation with someone else.

gwendolyn

Diverse econmically, racially, intelectually people only wanting to pursue the same opportunity, to further their abilities and obtain knowledge.

Marthanne

My classmates are mature, serious students from diverse backgounds who are independant thinkers, eager to lend assistance to their fellow students.

Isabella

My classmates vary greatly...there are always a few new students would want to avoid, as there are some people who believe they come with high statuses from family background as well as other things, but most are very open and friendly, ready to meet new people and welcome them to their college.

Anna

Most of my classmates are referred to as "hippies".

Becca

This is the school for you if you can focus on your studies when you need to. There is always something to do and you will have the time of your life, but you have to have some discipline and know when it's time to work and when it's time to play. There's endless fishing, sailing, wakeboarding, water skiing, there's a GREAT search and rescue volunteer organization... lots of art, other oppurtunities. Amazing marine science and environmental science majors. I absolutely adore all my professors.

Lindsey

respectful and content

Teresa

Most are open-minded, accepting, caucasion, beach lovers, environmentally friendly, easy going, hippys or hippy wanna-be's, and give good input for discussions.

Michael

A fun group of aspiring students who are very dedicated to what they do and how they do it.
