Here's your chance: Say anything about your college!

Emerson is unique compared to other schools I looked in to because it makes you feel free. Everyone at Emerson chose to be there because they want to do what they love in one of the greatest cities in the world. Yes, you go to classes and live in dorms, but it never feels like an obligation or something unwanted. At Emerson, you feel like you could achieve anything you ever wanted, because you realize you are exactly where you want to be.

Amanda

Upon visiting a friend at Emerson before applying, I immediately felt at home. Quite a few people were very welcoming and I even met some of my closest friends ever during that first visit. The amount of school spirit and driven, creative artists that helped one another to thrive were other important factors that helped me to make this decision to apply and ultimately attend Emerson College.

Emerson College is the most diverse, artistic group of students and faculty. Everyone is accepted regardless of any sexual orientation, gender, or attire. It also is the mos career, post-college focused out of any of the other schools I applied to. The alumni also constantly networks with recent graduates to make sure everybody gets into the field they want to be in. The school is also located right in the middle of Boston, giving access to so much, so close.

Walking down Boylston St. at 5:45pm when classes let out is a circus of eclectic style and energy. There are the nerds with the Iron Maid band t-shirts. There is the stoner in his lapsack hoodie. There is the ultimate hipster wearing his rayban sunglasses and sweet mickey mouse sweater dude. And then there is the lonely jock who becomes a leech to any like character he sees to escape the see of high school rejects, who could not wait to get to college not realizing they were about to relive their hight school days, but worse.

Stefany

How socially liberal Emerson is. I've never been to a school where every guy you see you wonder what his sexual orientation is or where the students dress so extraordinarily.

Rachel

Emerson is unlike any other school in that the students are comfortable functioning outside the bubble of a college campus. Here we thrive in testing the waters of the real world and diving into any and all career-related opportunities. There is a very prominant artistic presence on campus and by attending even one social event, you are able to see how incredibly talented the students are. Everyone brings something very unique to the table. Inside the classroom, the assignments appeal to the creative mind in a way that provokes thinking outside the box.

Danielle

The campus is right in the middle of an urban environment, unlike the isolation of most college campuses, so you're immersed iin Boston the minute you leave any one of the college's seven buildings. It also has very specific majors geared towards innovation in communication and the arts, especially with the specification in "Writing, Literature & Publishing" major, not the vague "English" degree that half of the schools I applied to offered.

Edgar

Freshman have the ability to get hands-on experience right from the start. Within two weeks, I had the opportunity to interview and apply for events concerning my major as well as outside activities. I also noticed that a lot of other schools focused a lot on the theory of my major, but Emerson provided me with both, theory and like I mentioned hands-on experience. Technologically, Emerson was superior to that of Syracuse, Hampshire College, and UMASS. The fact that it wasn't a traditional campus appealed to me as a chance to transition to city life.

Gaul

This school is a "communications school" so focuses heavily on technology and how to use it for communicating ideas through many midiums such as art, writing, performance, etc... It also has not campus other than the city of Boston Itself so you really get that 'living in the city' feel.

Bijal

I chose this school because it was different and I knew I would experience so much more here than any other school. Students here are very PASSIONATE and DRIVEN about their future and career. I wanted to be surrounded by people like this because being a perfectionist and focused about my future myself made this college seem like home and where I belong. The only problem is I tend to feel a little out of place because this school is bankrupting me and it's too late to back out of this college after so much time and committement.

Leah

Everyone here is so liberal, they're almost conservative about it.

Melissa

We are small, but we're located in a big city--all the problems (high rent, crime) of a big city come along with all the advantages (endless resources, lots of people, easy recruitment for models and actors). Emerson offers a great urban experience with dorms so you still have a huge "home" with a big, loving community of gay men to go home to.

Anne

Emerson has a cross-registration program with several other art schools in the area, which means that I can major in acting, but still take classes at Berklee College of Music. This school is also rare in that it gives merit-based scholarships to performing arts majors. Without the honors program scholarship, I honestly don't think I would have been able to go to college right out of high school.

Jessica

Emerson is a very tight-knit community. The school is small enough that you know almost everyone there by sight, if not name. Because there are under 3000 students, classes are very small and professors are able to focus one-on-one with students. It is located in downtown Boston, so there is always something going on. Also, because so many industry professionals have graduated from Emerson, there are lots of connections available to help you find employment once you graduate.

Catherine

My school is devoted entirely to the feild of communications, and gives each individual student a unique and individual learning experience.

Dave

Overpriced, and overrated.

Sean

Emerson is a great school, and it is slowly building up an amazing reputation as a go-to school for Hollywood scouts. If you are looking for an education in film and television, it is among the top shelf.

Diana

One thing I definitely feel strongly about is that Emerson changes you as a person, and definitely in a good way. This college nurtures your talents and makes you become a more confident and independent person. Not only have I become more social, but I've never felt more sure of my career path or myself as a person. Also, and I really need to add this, I'm especially grateful to Emerson for giving me a sense of style :)

Kaitlin

Get involved, start networking, have fun, go to the Castle if you can.

Brittany

Emerson is an experience, and a haven for anyone interested in the Arts. It flourishes with opportunities for writers, actors, publishers, editors, singers, dancers, producers, etc. The connections available at this school exceed the expectations of any undergraduate, and Emerson turns you into the best you can be in your field.

Because Emerson is a private school, they don't give out as much grants as you would like, so it is a very expensive college, BUT if you have a great GPA after your first year at Emerson and you are in need of financial assistance based on your FAFSA, they will definitely grant you a large amount of money. After I transferred there in the Spring of 2006, I had to take out loans to pay for my school and I was so distraught because it was so incredibly expensive. But I worked hard with my grades, and when the FAFSA came back for 2006-2007, I received $5,500/semester = $11,000. Talk about a tuition break! So, they help you out if you represent the school well with good grades and involvement!

Alex

Just a warning - you will have to take some classes during summer because for whatever the reason they aren't offered during the year (at least in the Prof. Studies program) and that just isn't fun at all. They're shorter more intense sessions and require A LOT out of you. My advice: be mentally prepared if you have to take one and make sure your friends/significant other knows to take care of you during that time period. When I said it was intense, I mean INTENSE. Also, I believe that whatever you bring in yourself to the school is what you'll get out of it, only enhanced. Especially if you're creative, don't hold back at all no matter what class you're in. I promise something in any class with spark something inside you. This place is that good.

Jody

If you aren't sure what you want and want to wildly experiment, Emerson is not the school for you. But if you've been writing/performing/filming since you could sit up on your own, welcome to the Emerson Mafia.

Cameron

I would reccommend Emerson College to anyone who hated high school and wants a completely different experience.

Peter

Honestly, I wish I would not have come here. There are perks, but I feel as if I haven't learned anything, and have wasted SOOOO much money here.

Rachel

I really can't think of a better place for me to be. I've never EVER thought of transferring.

Harper

Don't come to Emerson if your mind isn't already set on what you want to do because the margin for error is very slim (we don't offer that many majors). If you don't get involved you're missing out and won't learn as much as you should or good. The industries we will be joining after graduation are tough and competitive and you need to know your stuff. Know that Emerson faculty can be a mixed bag because there is a lot of turnover, but overall they tend to be pretty good. Emerson is not a normal college, it is small, artsy, a little gay (in a fabulous way) and there is no rea; campus. Be open minded, think outside of the box, and explore the city because it's an awesome experience.

Rosie

Hardly any straight guys to go around. I mean in comparison to other schools. There are more girls than guys, so sometimes it's hard. And sometimes you feel like you know everyone in the school, but you don't. There is always someone new to meet, you just have to try. But it is a great school and I love it.

Susan

Would I go to Emerson all over again? Hard to say.

Missy

If you're looking for a party school with a happening campus and something fun to do anytime, don't come to Emerson. However, if you're looking for an intimate, interactive, down-to-business liberal arts school where everyone is equally passionate about their careers, where you build close and trust-based relationships and networks, and where your social life is whatever you make it, then you'll love it here.

Robin

Emerson is a great school. It's hard to give an opinion to someone because there are so many different things to say. So many different people, things to do, groups, everything. You're bound to find your niche here.

Amanda

I LOVE EMERSON!!! It's a young youthful school. Live off campus, and in boston. Living away from the campus is stressful, living on campus is also stressful, leaving next to campus is ideal.

Andy

I love it here.

Kim

Emerson is a great school and I love it here, I would suggest anyone to come here; it's fun, educational, open an just an all around great time.

Jay

The women are really pragmatic and don't actually need men, even though there is this mysterious "dearth" of straight guys. Forget about coming here if you want the party atmosphere. The people that are part of it are really too into it and don't get their work done right. They have nasty habits like meth and abuse prescription drugs. But maybe I'm just being harsh. The good thing about Emerson is the awesome amount of resources that will open up to you and the people you will meet along the way. The professors that teach the courses in your major are 90{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} likely to be really awesome and know their shit thoroughly.

Blake

Emerson is not for squares! We are unique and we like it. We are also very professional about projects and classes. Don't come to Emerson if you want to drink and party all the time. It's like a four- year, full- time job and we don't want you if you're not going to take it seriously.

Andy

Smoking is big on campus. Cigarettes, marijuana, and other drugs can be easily found on campus. That being said, I don't smoke, and I've haven't faced pressure to do it or felt like I was missing out because I didn't.

Meg

I'd just like to say that Emerson was my fourth college to attend. I had transfered so many times because I had some traumatic events take place in my life and just couldn't find a school that I felt accepted me as a person. The first day at orientation, I knew Emerson was the right fit for me. None of the students or faculty prejudged me or tried to shove their views down my throat. There was really no category that a student gets lumped into other than his or her major, and even then it's not like the students with other majors aren't going to be friends with you. For any art student who has ever felt out of place, this is the school where you will be nurtured into an amazing artist!

Arielle

Emerson is the greatest college ever! I've wanted to go to college since I was in eight grade and now that I'm here I never want to leave!

Katie

GREAT THINGS TO KNOW: - Apply to be and RA, if it's for you. - Be ready to make your artistry real work if you come here for the arts - the teachers rock - the politics don't - the people here may drive you crazy, don't expect to be happy here, be ready to value how it helps you grow

Katie

lot of good lookin women, guys are ok (usually taken) dining hall- i love it personally emerson has a HUGE cigarette smoking community. youll understand if you visit during class change.

Maria

Emerson is great! Everyone's really accepting, you're around people who understand how important it is to pursue the arts, the professors are great, you'll make awesome connections, and Boston is fantastic.

Abbie

The dining hall and Piano Row cafe are the only places to eat on meal plan, besides the Convenience Store (C-Store), and it can get old pretty fast, but it's pretty good most of the time. Also, freshman year, live in the Little Building (LB). Piano Row is all suites and it's harder to make friends outside of your suitemates. Also the LB is just better.

Brady

Emerson is a great school and I highly, highly recommend it.

Alex

Emerson is a perfect school if you are looking for something small, focused on the students and their needs, in a great location, with wonderful opportunities to advance both your personal and professional life. I really can't imagine being anywhere else right now, but at Emerson.

Nico

Advice for picking housing - Go with the Little Building. Piano Row is newer, cleaner, and looks really awesome with its 4 or 6 person suites, but the place breeds a clique mentality, and by the end of the year, your 4 or 6 person clique will have torn itself apart over personality issues. No one gets lucky enough to have five perfect people live with them their first year. You'll enjoy the community and atmosphere of the LB, plus the dining hall is only a ten second walk away. Also, there's still a chance the Doubletree will still be open by the time you come to the school. If they offer you a spot at the DT, take it. The rules are easier to break, the beds are so much nicer, and, oh, wait, you're living in a hotel. For a year. Adoy.

Catherine

If you're the Emerson type and you know if you are you will freakin love it! Everyone here is happy with the school. If you don't know what you want to major in don't come here. I know it says this whenever you look up Emerson, but i'm surprised when kids are here and in that situation, they almost always transfer. Kids at Emerson want to be successful. They're major is what they've always known they wanted to do. It's a very professional atmosphere so take everything seriously.

Nicole

Overall, I've enjoyed my time at Emerson. I only have a year left to graduate, and often times I hate having to walk through clouds and clouds of cigarette smoke just to get to class. But then I remind myself that I'm not the one smoking.
