Emerson College Top Questions

What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?

Katharine

I wish I had known how hard the honors work would be. I wasn't expecting it to be so tough.

Allison

I wish I had known that the reasonably priced off-campus housing options are liimited.

Connor

I wish I had known just how intense it was going to be. Back in high school, I was one of the top students, but that applies to everyone at Emerson. I’m not automatically going to be on top; I have to work just as hard, if not harder, than everyone else. The competition is so fierce, I have lost out many a time, a scenario I’m still getting used to. It’s a painful learning experience.

Joseph

Now in my Junior year, I am beginning to study film, and my major, Digital Post-Production (Film Editing), in much more detail. After taking a variety of courses, if I had known the benefit of the skills and knowledge taught from foundation photography courses, I would have pursued them as soon as possible in High School. Many of the basic techniques, vocabulary, and practices in photography directly correlate with film, and if I had known and taken those courses, I would have had an even better background and preparation for my major at Emerson College.

Madeleine

I wish I had known and done more. In a competitive school such as Emerson, it is beneficial to have experience. It's true that you will gain crucial experience while at Emerson, but it is never bad to have more or to come in with more in order to push yourself ahead. With this experience you will be able to pack your resume full of references and previous positions you have held. By coming into the school with some experience you will also be less timid when seeking out the many opportunities you can take advantage of on campus.

Eleanor

I wish I had realized just how expensive it is to live in the city of Boston.

Madeleine

I wish that I had more hands- on experience already in my career or industry in order to compete better with others. I learned that experience is very important and I wish I had spent more of my time prior to college working on that. I also wished that I had developed my knowledge of arts and communication a little more, just to be prepared for the overwhelming presence of the different apsects of it, on campus.

allison

An easier way to pay for it.

Anne

I knew almost everything about Emerson except that they do not award the same amount of Financial aid from year to year.

Anthony

How much money some students have

Andrew

I wish I had known more about what my actual strengths were, for I ended up taking some courses which have little bearing on my current educational goals...but they were still rewarding in their own right.

Josephine

What I wanted to do with my life, or how to track down the people at the academic advising center. That it was up to me to get myself involved in projects outside of class that would be the real experience needed for my resume.

Catherine

How competitive the students are.

Claudia

I wish I had better known what I wanted to do career wise.

Manny

I wish I had known more about the school's Financial Aid.
