very diverse

dylan

hahahahah its like everywhere else. some are cool and chill while some others are losers. student population's very diversed and there are students from everywhere. i'd say a lot of kids here are very rich. many of them drive bmw, audi, benz and such. i-phones are seen everywhere. i am not sure about lgbt life here at emory but people seem to fit well. although most of them are rich, they don't really talk about money at all. everyone's very down to earth and chill. they are friendly but it's kind of hard to make a first step here. people are shy but once you get to know them, they rock.

The student body at the Rollins School of Public Health is about 80{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} women. So it's interesting. I feel the Rollins student body is very supportive and encouraging. Students work together to achieve academic, social, and other goals.

Chris

There seems to be a decent amount of acceptance of different people on campus. Everybody seems to find there niche at emory. Sweatpants, sweatshirts, jeans, t-shirts, sandals. Yes. The black hole where the black students sit, your average white table where the white students sit, your asian table, where asian student sit, and then, small groups of studnets sitting with each other. Upper class. Students are politically aware and active. I think left, but im not sure. Yes, from time to time.

Andrew

All races, religions, etc. etc. mix and get along great. No student would feel out of place here unless they truly didnt care about academics. Most students wear casual clothes, jeans and a polo shirt, frat shirt, undershirt, anything to class. Emory students are from all over. There is a good group of students coming from affluent families here. Students are for the most part very politically aware. From my personal experience many are right but there is a good mix. Some students do have high hopes to make a lot of money out of college. It is not that pressing of an issue that is taken too far though.

All of them are great! Someone who is really introverted. There are a lot of opportunities and people to meet, but if you do not put yourself out there, at least at first, you're not going to meet anyone or get anywhere. Most people generally dress very nicely, especially the girls. Although they're just wearing jeans, they will wear a cute shirt and most always have cute shoes/heels/flats. Guys usually are very well kempt, too. The "minorities" usually mingle with each other and themselves. 4 tables: 1 table has white people who just got back the woodpec. Another is the "black hole". Another is people who are in between classes. One has all Asians. The last one has 1 Indian, 1 Asian, and 2 black people. 45{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} from the south, 45{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} from the north, 8{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} from california, 2{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} international. Good mix of upper middle class and lower middle class mostly. Not most Whatever their parents tell them. Most that are politically aware or active at Emory tend to be right winged. Yes, but not much.

Nick

most racial groups come together and stick to them selves. there is some but not much mixing. No one would feel out of place. every one has a group. most students are southern or from new york.

Meredith

emory is very diverse but very self-segregated

Ben

most kids are rich, from the north, tend to wear designer clothing, leggings, or jeans. many jewish kids. not large portion of athletes. different types of students don't interact very much.

Amanda

I think that emory is a very diverse learning environment. Socially and academically I think that emory accepts students of all racial, religious and socio-economic factions into its community. I do not think that students need to dress a certain way at emory. I do not feel judged by my peers based on what i am wearing. I think that there is a stereotype that most emory students are rich and i feel that this stereotype is extremely wrong. I believe that one cannot describe 4 tables of emory students in a dining hall because i think that emory is A LOT more diverse than just 4 "tables" (or kinds) of students. I would believe based on what i have heard and seen that most emory students are democrats.

Antonio

Emory has a student body that includes races and cultures from all over the world. I am heavily involved with the Latino community, since i am a cuban. Latinos are quite a small percentage of the school's community, but we are changing that each year.

Matt

its a very divers campus with a ton of asians however you dont really see them that much. aren't so many blacks but they are around and usually hang out with themselves. there is the long island group of very clicky preppy kids who wont associat with anyone other than fellow long islanders but noone likes them so its fine. for the most part everyone is really friendly to everyone else and its very easy to meet new people and make great friends.

maverick

pretty segregated

Andy

I am in ICE and i like the experiences I have had. Students are not politically active to my knowledge and certainly most of them talk about money. Students wear normal clothes to school basically, not trying to impress anyone. The infamous table separation in Emory is still existing in my freshman year.

Aaron

I have had encounters with all of groups on campus. I feel almost all students are very nice and accepting. I really cant imagine any student feeling completely out of place. Clothing ranges from sweat pants and a sweatshirt to brand name clothing. 4 tables would be 1) Asians 2) athletes 3) rich white girls 4) rich white boys. Students come from all over the country, primarily the east cost from Boston to Miami. Most students are well off. Some students are politically active not all though.

Robbie

A student who hasn't had any experience with Jewish students and has been sheltered for most of their life might have some trouble. Afterall, it is very much a northeast campus in the South. The school likes to say that it is diversed, and that might be true...but there certainly isn't integration, and nothing is really done by many groups on campus or the administration itself to promote that integration. Southern kids hang out with other Southerners. Northeast kids hang out with other Northeasterners, Asians hang out with Asians, Indian kids with other Indians, and blacks hang out with other blacks. In an ideal world, that would change and everyone would have several GOOD friends from different ethnic backgrounds. Guys wear a lot of different things...there is the southern look, the guido look, the "i don't care how i look" look...definitely varies. Almost every girl wears those annoying skin-tight spandex pants during winter time...soooo annoying. Students seem to be politically aware and care about what's going on in the world, but the campus is far from being a hub for political discussion amongst the students.

reid

most students are comfortable in class not dressed up and all students feel free to intercat with one another

Jordan

I hang out with people similar to me, which I think everyone does. I think everyone fits in with their own group. Most students wear jeans/shirt to class. Different types interact. 4 Tables: Asians, blacks, whites, other. The Northeast or China. Upper middle class. Most are aware, left wing. Yes they talk about salaries.

Jody

no student should really feel out of place here. most students wear clothes to class. Sometimes they do, not always. the tables are full with people. Lot of emory students from northeast but still very diverse across country and world. many but not all students come from middle and upper class backgrounds. students are predominantly center polically. No, nobody i would ever talk to.

Abe

The campus is diverse, yet segregated. All the white, blacks, and asains only hang out with people of the similar race.

Robert

There are a lot of different social groups at emory and I have interacted well with all of them. I think someone who is very religious would feel out of place at emory because it is not a religiously oriented school, particularly for Christians. If there were four tables, most of them would be wealthy students who are either from florida or new york. These students would be relatively aware of political conditions and would likely be liberal. A lot of students talk about how much money they will earn at some point.

Ari

Everyone gets along on ccampus. There are no students that feel out of place, there is definitely something for everyone to do. Students wear regular clothing to class. Everyone interacts, Emory is very diverse. All of the tables are probably equivalent, maybe one has a bunch of kids from a certain frat, and maybe they are divided by sex, but for the most part, they are equally diverse. Most Emory students are from the New York, Boston or Miami area, but there is a huge international student population. I would say that the most prevelant financial backgrounds is the upper-middle class. Most students are not politically aware or active. The majority of students would probably be left of center, but there is also a lot of students that lean to the right politically as we are a school in the south. No one talks about how much they'll earn one day.

Michael

I do not think different types of students interact. Mostly, you stay with your friends who are like you...athletic, white, black etc. But I dont think this is a problem, I feel this is the way any school is like.

Brian

All the similar people end up in clicks. Every has their own group. You see the occassional mix in racial groups and religious groups, but mostly it ends up every1 getting in their own groups. No one would really feel out of place at emory. THere is a group for everybody. People who study alot, people who play sports alot, people who dont go out, people who love to go out, theres pretty much anybody. THere isn't too much interaction between different groups, unless it is with greek life, where there is plenty of interaction with everybody. The no interaction isnt really a big deal, no one has a problem with being with their group of people.Students are generally politically aware, but not because of emory influences, more because many of the kids are of that nature to be aware. Many kids are right wing, but ive seen my share of everyone.

Scott

Most of my friends also tend to be white jewish and wealthy like myself. Poor minority. sweats guys and spandex girls very casual. to some extent but most ppl tend to be with kids like themselves. koreans only talk wit each other, black ppl stay with each other, and everything else is mixed up. New York area, DC, and Atl. Wealthy. Students for the most part keep up wit politics and prob more right. No

Whitney

i havnt noticed any student body problems. its a very welcoming community.

John

There is a large Jewish population on campus and a small close knit black community. It is possible to get involved in both if you put yourself out there and leave your comfort zone. There is a broad spectrum of socio-economic classes on campus however, probably most students are fairly well off. Students are not very politcally active or aware. Students discuss future incomes occasionally.

alex

All groups are included and have a place. Korean studetnsfrom korea tend to hang out with each other and black students tend to hang out with each other. Economically, most people are affluent. Other than that, there is a lot of diversity. Studetns vary in political activism.

Mel

No student would feel out of place at emory we really do have a variety of people. There is some segregation though,

Cristy

A common stereotype Emory has is that most of its students are New York jews. This isn't necessarily true as I've met many people from all over the country and various other countries and from all sorts of religious backgrounds.

Heather

The kids here are either asian or jewish to be honest were not that diverse. Someone who isn't used to jewish or asian people would feel out of place, also someone who doens't have money people are very well off here. Most students what ever they want to class sweat pants pjs what ever.

Nikki

Emory is predominantly white. There are many Asians and they stick together. Although Emory is methodist founded, the majority of students are Jewish, though there are some Catholics as well. Emory students are well-off for the most part. Most students wear jeans to class although occasionally someone will wear pjs. A lot of students are from Georgia but many are from all around. The diversity is nice. Students are predominantly liberal.

Dylan

I don't think any kind of student would feel out of place at Emory unless it's a student who doesn't want to study or do any work. Even those can do so, just with obvious repercussions. Students don't dress up an awful lot to go to class. You'll see the occassional girl who's obviously trying to impress some guy and the people who have some type of interview or professional engagement, but I never get the impression that people are dressing in ways that they wouldn't dress if they were somewhere else. Different types of students interact on a regular basis because being part of different university activities requires it. Students are more politically aware than they are active but there are those that campaign fiercely for their candidate.

Mel

One thing that I have noticed about Emory is its lack of diversity. Yes, Emory has students from around the world, but in very, very small percentages. People here are mostly from the same background, and international students may feel out of place. I was born in Colombia, and later moved to the States. i felt a big cultural shock when I came here because the people were so different from me.I would enjoy my time here more if Emory had more people from Latin America and other parts of the world. Most students wear to class comfortable clothes. Sweats, big T-shirts, and baggy sweaters. Fashion isn't really big here.

Brian

While Emory has a diverse student body, different ethnic and social groups do not intermix well. Asian students hang out with other Asians, Jews with Jews, black students with black students, etc... Most Emory students are from suburbs of large cities (New York, Chicago, and Boston seem to be the most common). One only needs to visit an Emory parking lot to understand the financial background of Emory Students (sometimes it looks like an Audi or BMW dealership here) Many students are politlcally aware. Since a bulk of the student body is from the northeast, it seems that students are mostly politically liberal.
