What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

Katelyn

My name is Katelyn Renshaw, and I graduated high school in 2006. Now, returning to college for the second time with a new major, I have grown older and wiser. At times I wish I could go back to 2006-Kate and shake sense into her, or at least guide her in the right ways. I would want to tell her to not be so shy during the first year of college. Get involved in clubs and organizations so you can make friends, and be involved in campus life. Do your best for no one but yourself. Volunteer your time to different causes so you can explore new interests. Keep your advisement appoints; University staff members are there to help! I would want to tell my former self that mistakes do not determine who you are; failures are a part of life, so accept that and keep trying. Most, I wish I could say this: Find out who you are. And then decide who you want to be. Take the steps necessary to be that person, whoever it is. Do not apologize, and do not let other people sway you.

Go to college as soon as possible when you finish High School. You will have the rest of your life after you have created a career for yourself to vacation. If you vacation after you have made a career for yourself you may be able to visit the places you could not otherwise afford. As far as going to college, plan your work, research your references and get your work done early and if it is allowed submit it early. Do not be afraid to ask questions. If a question has formed in your mind, you are unsure of the answer. It is easy to ask the question and get the clarification. Make sure that you stay current with the syllabus for each class so that you don't fall behind. Make friends in your classes so that when you have to team up with other people you already know who you work well with and who will carry their share of the team project. Have SOME fun. But remember that this is an important part of what your life will become, so take it seriously.
