The high tuition and the money that is obviously wasted on unnecessary things, such as free laundry and free yearbooks. Tuition is nearing $40,000 per year and it is causing many good students to look elsewhere for their education. Many families in South Carolina simply cannot afford to send their child/children to such an expensive school without large financial aid awards. In addition, I feel that much of tuition money is wasted on frivolous items such as free yearbooks, which students should be able to buy at their option.
Financial aid at Erskine stinks. I was lucky enough to receive the money I was intended; my friends, however, did not. One of my friends was told she would receive all this money, but when we got to school, they started tacking on all these other expenses they didn't tell us before, and she couuld no longer afford the college. Not to mention she didn't get half of the money they orginally promised her.
The school is so small there is a lot of gossip and many things do not stay private. Everyone knows everyone and everything. Also, there is a lot of overlap when it comes to groups of friends and dating if you are interested. If you play a sport I think it is actually harder than being at a big school because the teachers are the best academics in their field and believe in your studies first. Without much help from most of the teachers it can be harder to make up work and miss class. The attendance policy stinks.
I would say that the worst thing is that it is in the middle of nowhere.
The worst thing about my school is how conservative and close-minded it is about everything.
The worst thing about erskine is that its out in the middle of no where and is dead on the weekends.
