  2. What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

The first advice I would give myself is to broaden my horizons. Expand my learning into other areas of study besides just the ones I am interested in or comfortable learning. I would also advise myself, strongly to take another language. Bi-lingual was a cute thing when I was in high school. Now, it is almost a necessity when interfacing with others. The world is a vast place. There are many opportunities besides just the ones in your local community. You never know where tomorrow will take you. Help yourself become prepared for the challenges you face tomorrow. My second advice would have been to study harder and get better grades. This is key in what opportunities you can have available in future schools. You never know when you might go back to school to study other subjects or fields. College is no longer just for young people. In today's economy, you might have a need to change your career path. The better grades you achieve early in your education can open new doors later. You never know what the world will look like in ten or twenty years. Prepare yourself for the future today.
