What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

krystal

If I could go back in time to tell my high school senior self advice about college, I would tell myself to never give up. As hard as the work is and to study to never give up. However this is also a challenging question to answer, because if I would not have dropped out of college, I would not have my two beautiful children. If I didn't have children, however, I would tell myself to also make sure that I am well prepared and not to wait until the last minute to do my work. To go to school is just like a job. You have to work for your education. You have to put the time into it because if you don't, you will end up failing classes and end up getting nowhere in life. I would tell myself, "Do you know how our mom and dad live? Paycheck to paycheck? Do you want to walk into a store and say, 'Ok, I need these things, so lets go get them!', or do you want to say, "Ok, I need these things but can only afford twenty dollars. What can I pick from to get?'"

Carla

To go to college as soon as I can after graduating and sticking it out, I could have already graduated by now.

Salina

I would tell my self not to give up, keep focused on what you want in life. Getting a degree is more important than what you think. I know being on your own is dififcult but if you keep your grades up and attend college, you are one step closer to achieving your goal. You will need to have a degree to succeed in life, so keep working twards your goal.

Kerriann

Apply for a traditional college like Harvard, you're smart enough. You need more drive, don't give up so easily. You deserve to have the best because you are the best. Even when everyone picks on you, just know, they don't mean it, they just feel bad about themselves and are using you as an outlet. Let their words roll off of ou, because some day, they'll feel bad about how they treated you. Never give up hope, cherish every moment possible.

Brandy

If I could go back in time and talk to myself as a high school senior I would highlight the importance of two key points. The first point I would highlight is not waiting for years after high school graduation to start college. I feel this is important because waiting is only wasting time that could be spent furthuring your education, which in turn betters your life. The second point I would highlight is the importance of having a good GPA when you graduate high school. I feel this is important because it says a lot about you as a person and as a student. The higher your GPA, the more likely you are to get into the college of your choice.

Mike

I would give my self advice about the cost of tuition and how student loans can be extremely expensive.

Ashley

I would of told myself not to give up the first time and stuck to what I wanted to do for myself in life. It wouldn't of taken me so long to get where I'm at today and back on the path to furthering my education. My most needed advice I could of had was that I had the will power to accomplish my goals, and that I didn't need as much support as I thought I did. I would of advised myself that my kids would just motivate me to want to do this more and everything would of turned out just fine

Tiffany

The advice that I would give to myself is to study very hard, and set long and short term goals, stay focused, and motviated.

Maria

Going back in time, I would tell myself to stay in school no matter what challenges arise, do my best, ask for help from teachers and focus on the advantages that I can gain by completing high school with a diploma. Without a high school diploma it will always be a struggle in life, from returning to school to getting the career job that one dreams of having.

What i have gotten out of my college experience is how to be on my own and independency. It is Valuable to attend college because after high school you need to see that there is much more out there that the world has to offer than whats at home and localy around you. Its good to experience what else is out there for you.

Glen

To my discovery, a college experience is one of the most valuable benefits you can ever achieve in life. This opportunity allows you to challenge yourself, while learning about some many different types of cultures. As you add to your life journeys, it prepares you for opportunities that you may or may not even know are coming your way. That's why I'm so excited to have begun my mission because i feel like where the economy has closed the door to our future that school has become our open window of opportunity. As a leader of my community and following the educational trend of my family, I feel that it is absolutely manditory for us to do all we can to meet our potential. School is the Godsend factor that gives you the tools that you need to build a bigger and stronger foundation in supporting your family legacies while enriching your overall traditions. Lastly, once I have completed my degree goals, I plan on become a education advocate to help steer youth to the vision of progress. As i have done for myself, because you never will meet your greatest destiny until you achieve your highest challenge!

College has been a huge eye-opener for me as far as transitioning to the "real world". It's taught me more about responsibility, working hard, dedication, and having a vision for the future. Through all my classes taken thus far I've learned a lot and strive to take all I learned with me to the work environment. A lot of people don't take college seriously, however I see school more of a privelege than a right. I value my education so I've made various goals to do as well as I can at all times. As a 19 year old girl in a bachelors program, I think I've truly acheived a lot and am very proud of myself. College has been valuable because it really is preparing me for the work force, which is another reason why I take it seriously. If i'm the winner of this award, I plan to purchase a laptop which I need for my various classes and would put the rest of the money towards my tuition, classes, books, etc.

Janine

My name is Janine Resilard, I am 28 years old and a single mother with a 7 year old daughter. I feel that a college education is a vital tool and a necessity for me to have the ability to provide a better life for my family. My strong work ethics and experience in the medical field has prepared me for the challenges I will face in order to pursue a career in Nursing. Having strong family support is essential to my success in college. The financial burden as a single parent is extremely overwhelming. I am certain a scholarship will greatly assist me with achieving my higher education goals. I am a very ambitious woman and have confidence in myself that I will do very well with my college studies. Having life and work experiences entering college as an adult, helps me to be better prepared. Although I was an average student in high school, I have been working extremely hard in college to graduate with honors. It is important for me to set an example for my daughter that perseverance and dedication in education is a long term investment for a brighter future.

Virginia

I enjoy the whole idea of learning more then what I already know.

When being a teenager I made a lot of mistakes that now as an adult I look back and ask my self "What was i thinking". I would definately would of wanted to finish high school with all my friends and exceed in all my classes in order to have a scholarship to attend college. Reality , thats not the way it happend and i graduated late .Other than graduating late i didnt have the resources or knowledge to put my self through college. I also had two children at a very young age which delayed my process. Now I am a single mother and i want a future for my kids and i dont want them to committ the same mistakes i did.My advice would of been to listen to my parents and think about my future not the moment.

Andrea

I graduated from high school recieved my diploma and shouted with joy, as i thought i was done. When i realized i wasnt because there is just so much more ahead of me. Although at the moment i chose not to worry about it, which was a big mistake. Now seven months later i ask myself why i didnt take advantage of my opportunities in high school. Now that i have worked and grown a bit more i wish i could go back in time and fix that big mistake i made. So if i could go back to the begining of my senior year id tell myself not to be foolish to take advantage of the help i have from the counselors and teachers and to not waste time and get in school because wasting time after doesnt do anything but set you back from reaching your goal, and the longer you wait the longer it'll be to finish and get you degree.

There are several things that I'd tell myself. But I think that the most important thing would be ?Don?t be afraid to dream big and pursue what you want in life.? I had a lot of negative people in my life and I thought the idea of law school would seem silly and unobtainable. I wasted so much time pursuing the things that other people wanted for me and trying to be what other people wanted me to be. I gave up on all of my past majors because it wasn?t what I truly wanted in life. When I found out I was pregnant I realized that I needed to get serious. I enrolled in a Paralegal Studies program and for once I am enjoying my classes. I make good grades and I now have the confidence to say that one day I will major in law. I regret that if I had believed in myself more than others that I would have a BA degree already and could apply for law school. But I am focused now and that is the best advice that I could give my former self. Stay focused because anything is possible.

Be ready to study, there's another whole world out there. Make sure to discipline yourself, you have to take the initiative to do your studies. If you can, find friends, or make new ones in your classes. Form study groups to maximize your learning and make it fun. Be organized, keep up with the courses, watch your money wisely; but most importantly, enjoy your learning experience. Remember the friends you make here, this is where you can make friends for life. Forming lasting friendships while learning new concepts and ideas is one of the best experiences you will ever have. The more you can pick up here and take with you, the more rewarding your life can be afterwards.

First of all, relax. College is simply not as scary as you are making it out to be. You get to leave home with a purpose, enjoy the independence, and come home whenever you need to get rid of your home-sick feelings. Second, get your caboose in motion and get your scholarships filled out and essays written. Mom and dad are not going to pay for everything, and you don't have nearly the money you will need. Write! Ask for recommendations weeks ahead of time, and check up on their progress. Finally, embrace the changes that are coming your way! You get to leave your tiny, overcrowded house, and get into a dorm that you love with a new friend that will soon become your best friend. You will meet people that love you, learn about the world around you, and will soon be influencing lives in HUGE ways! You have been learning to love yourself for almost a year, and now you get to show off that person to the world. Good luck girlie. You'll be great.

Knowing what I know now bout college life amd ,alomg tje tramsotopm. dvice I would give to myself

Amy

If I could go back in time and talk to myself as a high school senior I would tell myself to stay the course I've already traveled. My choice to not attend college right after graduation lead me to a career in restaurant management, which is how I met my husband. That was followed by my two children, who are now my motivation to return to school. My family has given me a strong sense of purpose and have reignited a passion for learning that I didn't posses 10 years ago when I was a grad. I needed to let my life happen the way that it did in order to learn the importance of an education for our family's financial stability. I made the right choice and don't regret a thing. I'm hoping that my returm to school will one day inspire my children to find their path in their own lives, including a great education in whatever field of study they may choose.

If I could go back in time and talk to myself as a senior, I think I would tell myself to have a little more fun and learn that I am not perfect. When I was in high school, I was very focused on my grades and refused to do anything social. I was a perfectionist and got top marks in all of my classes. I did not even go to my senior prom. I would tell myself that college life is a lot harder than high school, and I would not be perfect in college ? I learned that when I got an 89{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} in a class. Maybe if I accepted the fact that I wasn?t perfect when I was in high school, I could have enjoyed it a little more. In high school, I could have still kept my grades up and participated in the social aspects it had to offer, but in college, I find it a lot harder to have time to do anything but concentrate on my studies. So the thing I would tell myself when I was a senior is to try hard, but try to also have some fun.

Alexander

My advice will be to always read and have fun learning. be persistant and remember there are no failures in life. but opportunities to explore.
