My school's heart and soul is fashion. Yet you get to interact with Art majors, my roommates were photography majors, friends of mine are interior design majors. We all feed off each other's drive and passion to make something more of ourselves. FIT is unique because we understand what it take to make it in the tough industry that is fashion and how to integrate all the other elements such as photography and interior design into it.

Emily

The professors utilize their reali life expriences to teach the class so instead of just taking notes from a book everyday and having book exams, we're learning how to utilize the material from the book into our desired majors.

Jessica

Most of the schools I considered focused on school activities and school spirit for sports. This school has tons of school activities but little school spirit.

Leah

FIT has their students admitted to a specific major. I appreciate that FIT forces students to begin their professional life and become independent entrepreneur from the very beginning of their college experience. FIT is unique in that students can get their associates in one major and then get a bachelors in the same or any other major for the last two years. This gives students the opportunity to try different things. The professors are great, the environment is fabulous and so are the classes.

Gabrielle

FIT is a very diverse and multicultural school where students are able to express how they feel through what they wear all the way to the color of their hair. It allows students to become an individual and bond with other students over similarities.

What is unique is that all of the teachers have worked in the fashion industry so they are teaching you directly out of the industry you want to work in. They are so knowledgable about what we are learning and they are our best tools to use while moving forward in our careers. They want to help us succeed and they provide us with information that goes well beyond the class you are taking.

At that time, I had chosen Fashion Institute of Technology because it was right in the middle of New York City. The campus is located in the beautiful Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood; one of the most vibrant areas with cafes, art galleries, boutiques, theaters, museums and restaurants. FIT is internationally recognized. Coming from Africa, I felt at home since the college population was diversified. FIT also offered a direct connection to New York City culture and commerce. In addition, FIT offers more than 60 student clubs, plus community service opportunities and activities for its students

MOREOVER, NEW YORK CITY IS A PRIME DEVELOPER WITHIN THE FASHION INDUSTRY.

What is so unique about FIT is the cirriculum, the professors and the different activity groups. There must be an ethnic group for every country at FIT, among others. There are also groups for each cirriculum where you can learn to network in the industry at an early stage. Most professors are inspiring and genuinely care. They teach you the traditional techniques as well as modern techniques. They also teach you how to deal with criticism constructively. There are many different interesting cirriculums. This school is like a toy store for anyone that is interested in the arts.

FIT is diverse and creative. It fosters a liberal and open-minded environment that is highly focused on hands-on/real-world industry experience. It is constantly connected to what's happening in the industry by being in touch with alumni, companies looking for interns/future employees, and by employing professors who are still working within their industry. FIT is hightly focused on after-graduation job placement and has a high success rate in doing so.

It's a state of the art...art school. Everyone is creative and fullfilling and there is an emotional level of happiness that you see in people that are permanent friends because of the college.

Jill

As a transfer student from St. John's University in Jamaica, Queens; I can compare both experiences. I must say that FIT is a wonderful school for individual's with a creative mindset. Thanks to my dedicated and well rounded teachers, each with a unique personality and an interactive teaching strategy, I was more than satisfied with my decision to attend this college. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same for my previous university, where I was not intellectually challenged nor did I receive my money?s worth. But I must say the social life on the Queens campus was unforgettable.

Elizabeth

I believe my school is unique because of its city campus. The urban environment allows for much more interaction and opportunity for a college experience, as well as a learning and growing experience. With the city at your fingertips you have more opportunity to meet people as well as find job/intern opportunities. Many people my age attend schools in rural environments in your typical environment with sororities and fraternities, where there are many cliques. FIT it known for being unique and diverse. There are no cliques, it's almost like everyone knows and likes everyone despite its big campus.

Kathleen

My school is unique because all the professors who teach here are professionals who have valuable experience in their field of study. The students are creative and think outside the box. Christina

It is fun, and prepares you for the real world very well.

Alexandra

It is the most hands on school. FIT is known as a technical school where you can learn how things are made most specifically. Other Fashion schools in New York focus on drawing fashion figures which is somewhat useless in the industry today with the use of computer technology. Students who don't go to FIT don't really ever grasp how to make clothing, especially because they don't have the practice.

Michelle

It's very career oriented. There's a lot of oppurtunity and it's in a great location. There's a lot to do in the city, and there's acccess to many things. FIT has a lot of industry connections as well.

Samantha

What is most unique about my school, is that everyone is very focused, we do not have a lot of extra curricular activities, but we are still involved students. Students balance school, jobs, internships, and even a social life. With our professors being in their field they teach for more than 20 years, FIT teaches students responsibilities and prepares us for real world challenges. FIT not only has diversity of ethnicity, but of students, most students are older and are continuing or are going back for a second degree; these students are great inspiration and help towards other students.

Shara

Unlike other schools, you must declare a major upon entering your 1st semester. This allows the student to dive right into their concentration of study, as opposed to taking all liberal arts classes up front and then taking courses focusing on their major. At FIT, we're given a real chance to get our hands dirty and really get into what we want for a profession rather than eagerly waiting for 1-2 semesters.

Jessica

it is so culturaly diverse and everyone is so unique. i have people in my classes from tokyo, china, korea, sweden, israel, etc. its awesome. also, everyday everyone gets dressed up. no one is ever in sweatshirts and sweatpants and its something that i've come to love about my school.
