Best thing about FIT: You make your own opportunities. NYC could be wasted on you, but it could also be an incredible networking/internship tool. The amount of students feels just right. I feel like I know a great deal of people, but there is always someone new to meet, and new groups of people to join up with. When I tell people I go to FIT, they make some comment about me being stylish so it is a good fit, even when I'm not in a fashion-related major. Speaking of major, I think it greatly benefits FIT that students must declare a major prior to entry. It makes it easy to meet new people when you immediately know what they are passionate about. On campus, I spend most of my time in the dorms, but quite a few people feel at home on the benches outside of Coed and the C Building archway. It's also easy to spend hours in the caf. Wish they had a patch of green space instead of those new benches and potted trees. Concrete EVERYWHERE. But hey, it's what you sign up for when moving to New York. The city itself is amazing. As much as I complain about hating FIT, I know I would outgrow a normal college within the first year or so. Being here, I don't think I could ever outgrow New York. ALWAYS something to do/see. FIT's administration? Shitty, Burger King cashiers, I don't know what else to say. Notorious for doing everything wrong and being nasty in the process. People frequently complain about other people, because people are always trying to one-up each other. Competitive atmosphere! It really pushes you to put your best work forward though, because it seems like you always have to prove yourself here. The most unusual things become mundane here. It's normal to see a guy walk into the caf wearing 6-inch heels, and a girl waiting in line at Starbucks who looks like a model because she actually IS a model.

The Fashion Institute of Technology is definitely a school that is challenging, but well worth it! The best thing about this school is that it pushes you everyday to work and try harder and harder and helps you create a great work ethic. This school is perfect if you are serious about your major and looking for a chance to work with professors who are in the industry. One thing I have really learned is that you are never to young for an internship and you should always push your own boundaries, no is a limit you set for yourself, always try and you will be amazed at what you can succeed. Another great part about this school is that the classes are always small, my largest class is twenty students. So you get personal attention from all your professors and the kids in your class become a family.

FIT is a great school for those who really know what they want to do for a career. The school takes a very realistic approach to teaching and really sets students up for jobs in the fashion field. Expect to work hard and have your creativity a bit stifled. FIT is not for everyone, but those who find it suiting have few complaints.

If you come with ability and desire the resources are here. If you're coming primarily to party or go to frat events or football games go to Ohio State. To be in New York where it is all happening is incredible because of the interplay with people doing professionally and internationally the things you are studying.
