lack of housing
I attend Kendall College of Art and Design which is through Ferris state university. The worst thing that I can consider at Kendall is the expenses for art supplies. Artists spend a great deal of money on art supplies/books in order to persue their dreams. While students at a regular college pay for books, students at an art school have to pay for drawing paper, pencils, paint, markers, etc each week for their classes. On average, art student spend around $400 a month on art supplies.
The cost of attendance for ut of state students but its cheaper than most schools.
robably the worst part of school is the start of a new assignment. The blank page is full of possibilities and coming up with one idea and committing to it can be a challenge. Once you get over the blank page blues and your light bulb clicks on it is smooth sailing from there. Also don’t be afraid of the dumb idea, those ideas often lead to something truly remarkable but it takes getting them out of the way to get to the good stuff.
I would say that the worst thing about Ferris State University is that it is located in Big Rapis which is a very small town where there isn't much to do.
The worst thing about the school is the parking. Even if you pay the $100 a semester for a parking pass finding a spot is pretty hard especially because of the on campus housing there are very limited parking lots for people who live off campus.
The worst thing about Ferris State University would be how far it is from home. I'm an out-of-state student, and it's really hard to be away from everything I know, and everything I'm use to. Ferris State is a whole different world, and I'd really enjoy if my two worlds were closer connected.
It is more expensive than a community college.
Their technology. It is often difficult to make my at home technology match their's. Often I have had difficulty viewing their Tegrity system which allows the instructor a means of videoing or video chatting during the course so that online students may have direct contact. Nice in theory but generally fails.
There is quite a bit of diversity here based on our total student population, however often the different minorities don't interact with one another or the majority. It's really a shame because it inhibits students from working with different types of people which is a skill that is important after graduation.
Going into Ferris State University as a junior was tough. A majority of the students on campus were young. This has been the worst thing about this university. The students were quite naive in their thought process and I don’t really like Ferris was advising them in the right direction. I have been providing for myself for quite some time, I remember when keeping up grades was my only responsibility. Now, I am a full-time student along with a full-time employee. As we grow, we learn that money management and time organization are key factors in success.
The worst thing about this school is the weather! It gets super cold in the winter and classes rarely get canceled because of the weather. The wind is another factor! It’s super windy
The worst thing about Ferris is the cost, but even though it costs so much there are other schools that cost a lot more and have even bigger class sizes.
It is a long way from where I live.
The cost of tuition and location fo the school.
The worst thing about Ferris State University would be their bus transportation and their meal plan situation. The bus only goes to three local spots on campus. The meal plans are set up so that if you do not want one at all, you have the choice of moving to one specific hall only or into an apartment off campus. It would be more beneficial if the bus went to more places on the campus instead of just those three and letting everyone live wherever they'd like with or without a meal plan.
I think some of the professors I had to deal with made my experience lack in some areas. Some did not seem to care about students academic growth, they were not availble to answer questions and they were not willing to go out of their way by any means. Overall, I liked most of the professors but it is sad that those few bad experience are stuck in my head.
The worst thing about my school is communicati.on among staff and from staff to students.
I go to Kendall college which is a division of Ferris State University, and with the school being in a city, it is difficult to find affordable housing within walking distance. I do not have 600+ to spend on a small apartment that will be shared with three other people. I also find the acceptance rate to be so high that many people are entering into programs without basic knowedlage or skill of what they're supposed to be doing, or how they're doing it.
The worst part about Kendall is that they don’t have that they don’t have cheeper parking or on campus living.
There is no cafeteria on campus.
The worst thing about my school is that the Career and Professional Development program was dismissed last fall. I had been right in the middle of working with the program on my resume, cover letters, business cards, and discussing career paths. Now, we are advised to talk to faculty about how to write and produce these job items. The problem is that the faculty is already busy enough and much of their advice is dated since many have not had to produce these items to get a job in many years.
The worst thing about my school is the cost of tuition. People say you can't put a price on an education. But, sadly I feel that college can seem like more of a business than a learning opportunity. I've always hoped that somewhere along the line, I'd able to afford a trip outside of the country to gain cultural experience, awareness and knowledge. Though, even if I graduated now I'd have to send the government a minimum of six hundred dollars a month to pay off my student loans. That's painfully disappointing.
I think the worst thing about Ferris is that the parking permits are only good for one parking lot on campus.
I actually go to Kendall of Ferris which is located in Grand Rapids, therfore, the worst part about my school is that it is located in the city. However, Grand Rapids is a farely safe place, and I rarely ever feel threatened, or scared to walk it's beautiful streets. When I do is when it's the worst thing about Kendall, but that hardly occurs.
I would say the worst thing about my school is that they do not have meal plans like most colleges/universities, and they do not have housing for their students.
Thw price of attendance and materials.
The hours KCAD's building is open and the availability of the labs. As art students, we need access to the studio space and equipment to properly complete assignments. We can't do our best when we can't even access our own school half the time.
social skills on campus lack. we are a bunch of introverted artists too scared to come out of their shells. the school also does not always prepare students for real world. must distinguish between personal growth and growth that can be made into a career.
The the thing I would consider the worst about my school is the weather. In the small town of Big Rapids, Michigan the winters are awful. The wind is bitter cold and gusts at high speeds, it snows all the time, and the temperature drops below zero almost every day. It is so cold there is ice build-up on the dorm room bathroom windows.
The worst thing about Ferris is the distance it is away from the nearest big city. It's about a 45 minute drive to Grand Rapids, which has the nearest malls and more varied activities. Ferris has a lot of things to do, there is a movie theater, 2 bars, a club, and a bowling alley that also contains a bar, arcade, and at certain times, a mechanical bull. There is also a Walmart, Meijer, Rite Aid, and Walgreens, but if you want any more of a selection than that you have to make the trip to Grand Rapids.
There is not a lot to do in Big Rapids. It's a very small town.
Although Kendall is located in downtown Grand Rapids, there are no dorms and no college campus feel. You need to find a laundromat, cook your own meals and there are no sporting events to attend.
The cold weather and the isolation for family.
The financial aid department is not very attentive. You can call and email, and they take forever to get back with you. And when trying to figure out different funding options, they don't really offer any advice.
I think that like any school the high cost hurts most it's students, even more so students like me with no money.
students, pressure to get things done on time
Department of Public Safety. They rip you off for a decal sticker, their workers are the most unpleasant staff I have ever had to deal with.
Too much partying on campus & off campus. Alcohol allowed in dorms unlike some other universities.
BIg rapids sucks. it is the most undiverse uncultured town i have ever had the displeasure of living in
The amount of space for working, they are aquiring a new building as part of a longterm plan but it didn't help while I was at Kendall.
I dont really think there is anything bad about the school.
Its in BFE aka the middle of no where
I am not seeing anything that is really their fault but I am having troubles finding a job in my field. I am pretty sure that the economy of the country has everything to do with my dilemma.
No campus
The worst thing about Ferris State University is the dorms and the meal plan provided to students who live on campus. The dorms are very outdated and have not been remodeled since the 1970s. The paint is peeling in many and they can be very cold at night due to insufficient heating. The meal plan has very few viable options and the food is often old and stale.
Snow is very bad, the school does not close when the roads are bad. The sidewalks are also very icy. Parking is bad.
The requirement of the ACS standarized test for general chemistry coures. because these exams do not test you what you learned from your class, but from outside sources. Not all chemistry professors have preparations ready to help you with these tests.
HOMEWORK
The worst thing about this school is the their lack of acceptance to those with conservative political views. In certain classes politics is brought up and because there is an overwhelming majority on the liberal side it makes those of us who are conservative very uncomfortable. They usually just assume everyone agrees with them so it's ok to spout off and rant about how bad this current administration is. If there at least a few more professors who took a conservative stance I would be able to tolerate the other side a lot better.
