What is your overall opinion of this school?

It is an amazing university, It has supplied me with anything I could possibly need. I wouldn't want to be anywhere else. I will be able to succeed here at FAU.

Laurie

It is alright

FAU is definitely mostly a commuter school. You do not run across many students who are from other states, and even rarer, students from other countries. There is not much diversity, the school is mainly local white students. The school is very clean and well kept. The campus itself is beautiful. It is also not very big, so it doesn't take too long to walk from one end of the campus to the other. One thing that needs improvement, is the financial aide department. Those working in the office are not much help with students, they often don't know the answer to your questions or give out the wrong information. Something that I love about FAU is that it offers its students a free gym, an affordable clinic, which is especially useful to those who do not have health insurance. They also have counseling, a food court, and a restaurant on campus. With all these amenities and more offered to all students, tuition is still on the cheaper side compared to other colleges. Last but not least, there are many clubs and honor societies for students to be involved in. It's a great way to meet people and bond over a common interest. At the beginning of every year, the clubs set up tables outside and give out information about what their club has to offer.

The best thing about Florida Atlantic University is that it offers so many different opportunities for my future and they are available near home. From extra curricular activities, to clubs, honor societies, beautiful architecture and a nice weather, FAU has everything that other very expensive Universities also offer. FAU needs to change the way that they deal with student parking, however, despite having to walk very far to get to class, it is the perfect size and I get some exercise when I least expected. People do not have any reactions when I mention that I go to Florida Atlantic University. Unfortunately, people relate college's fame based on sports and I feel that FAU should be noticed based on the academics, not on how well defense played on the last game. I spend most of my time in the Business and Science buildings. FAU is a small college town. The school's administration works hard , but it unfortunate to say that advisors do not advice as well as they should.

In the past couple of years, FAU has significantly made vast expansions in order to dominate their competition in Florida. With a brand new football stadium worth over $70 million to new apartments on campus for upperclassman, FAU is always being improved upon. As of now, FAU is building another on campus dorm for freshman because of such an influx in students. Our university is in such an amazing location (3 minutes from the beach), has brand new facilities, is a Division 1 school, and maintains well respected academic programs. FAU is a great fit for any student who thinks highly of those qualities.

Our school harvests much diversity among students and creates a relaxing environments for our students to relax, socialize, and explore intellectual pursuits. Our school is just right, though the parking is not sufficient enough for the growing amount of incoming students we have per year. Most people approve of this school because it is a successful and popular institution. There is much school pride to be had and our sports teams tend to do really well with all of the pep and spirit that empower them. Unfortunately, our class availability is very low and many students cannot complete their degrees in four years and many students look down on this institution because of this.

My overall opinion about this school is you can make it what you want. Its one of those hidden gems. The reason I say that is because at FAU you can have a complete social life, if you want to. Or if you'd rather go to class and leave and do your own thing; then go ahead you can. Another nice thing about FAU is that you don't have many distractions. I have friends that go to school in Miami but many of them didn't do well in their first semester because they were caught up in too many party scenes. With FAU, you'll have parties but not to the extent where its party central. Again you can always drive down or take a party bus to Miami from the school. The fact that the school is walking distance, makes it better. I've walked from one end of the campus to another without having any problems. I like that about my school because it isn't to big or to small. Some of the perks about FAU is that we are becoming more known. For instance our gym is phenomenal, we have all the latest equipment and an extremely clean facility. We also have a brand new stadium on campus which is breath taking. Like i said, if you want the school experience you can have it, in my sorority we are extremely school spirited but then again you have kids who could careless about the school. So the beauty of FAU is you can make your college experience whatever you want it to be. The one factor that needs improvement would have to be parking. Recently there has been tons of expansion on campus and FAU is known as a commuter school, so parking is always hectic. We need more levels on our garage. Other than that I would recommend FAU for sure.

FAU is an amazing school. It has increased the amount of facilities in the recent year. It opened a new medical school and a stadium as well as a new apartment complex; I still think that the school could use some more expansion though, like a new library because the I spend most of my time in the library and it could defiantly use an upgrade. When I tell other people that I go to FAU they complement me on my schools recent success and are curious about the new medical school. FAU has so many facilities near it you could not mistake it for a small town. The biggest recent controversy on the campus is the new designated smoking areas. The student body is super competitive and is willing to do anything to make a great impression. The most unusual thing about FAU is a green building called the “spaceship building.” I will always remember the first time I went to go watch a movie at FAU’s own Living Room Theater; I had so much fun with all of my friends! The most frequent student complaint by far is the parking at FAU; only one word describes it accurately: crazy.

The close knit community. The professors really know you and your work- they care about how you do and try to encourage you to challenge you r assumptions. While, the Jupiter campus is often accused of being too small and the Boca too big- together they form an integrated network (with the other campuses) of professors and students that care about making a positive impact in the world. Most of my time on the Jupiter campus would have been spent in my awesome dorm room or our student union. None of the campuses have a "college town" feel as they are part of the wider Miami metropolitan area.

I love the overall "big" college feeling but having the smaller class sizes and actually being able to know a lot of people. I wish more people wanted to come here because it really is a great school and it is in paradise. So I don't know why more people don't try to come here. We are located so close to a lot of big cities that I can have the city feeling but also have the small town feeling just going an hour inland. I think we have a lot of growing school pride and a lot of people from outside of the student population have become more interested in our sports programs.

The Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College is the best aspect to Florida Atlantic University. It is the perfect place for a student who wants to go onto a graduate program, specifically medical school. Many people do not know that the Honors College exists, since it is separate from the main campus in Boca Raton. It has separate faculty, separate dorms, separate curriculum, and is located in Jupiter, Florida. The faculty at the Honors College is some of the best faculty you will find in the country- we really do get an Ivy School education at state prices. A student is required to live on campus the first two years and then has the option as an upper classman. There is a thesis that is required for every major and it is published and put into the Florida Atlantic University library system. I absolutely love the FAU Honors College and I am so happy that I chose to attend!

I think that FAU has a lot to offer as long as you give it the chance. One of my favorite things about FAU is that there are many academic programs at the school that are offered for free. There is a writing center, math center, and free tutoring and SI sessions. If you know where to look, you can pass your courses easily. Another thing that I love about FAU is that everything for the most part is easy to find. Most of your classes you can find by referencing the Breezeway. In addition, there are maps like everywhere.

Three thing I would change about FAU is the expenses, the amount of parking, and their scheduling of classes. FAU is good at sneaking classes under the radar until your senior year. Also, FAU accommodates a lot of commuter students, and the Boca campus currently doesn't have the parking capacity for all of their students. Thus - especially earlier in the semester - it can be pretty hard to find parking that is easily accessible. Recently, as I've progressed in my degree, I've found that a lot of the higher level classes (in the art department, at least) are scheduled at the same exact times. This makes it hard to take classes necessary to graduate and sometimes you can get caught, making a further semester necessary. Overall, the FAU Boca campus is a good size. Each curriculum has it's own building or section of buildings, so often when you find your major, it's easy to stay in one general area - which is convenient. I spend most of my time in the art buildings, especially Visual Arts. This building has a nice court yard, covered in the mess of art students - as it should be. I also spend a lot of time at the Student Union. In between and after classes, it's easy to meet up with friends and sit around or work on projects, or get something to eat.

The beautiful campus, atmosphere, and sorroundings. I would change that there is no football stadium on campus. It is a perfect size school, not too big or small. Not many people have heard of FAU because it is not as popular as some of the larger florida schools, but those who have heard of it have said all good things. Most of the time on campus is spent outside in the beautiful florida weather playing sports or just hanging out. It is not too much of a college town, it is in Boca Raton, which is more of a retirement area. Good administration and counselers, always helped a lot in choosing and fixing my schedule. The only controversy I can think of at FAU was whether to build a stadium on campus or not. Being that there is no stadium, the football program in not very popular which minimized school spirit, but again, the program and school is growing quickly. I will always remember the beautiful school, hanging out on the beach right around the corner, and making many new friends. I have never heard any student complaints about FAU besides no stadium, only good things.
