What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

CALM DOWN! It is not the end of the world if you don't get into your first choice. As long as you have the drive, will, and want to learn, it won't matter which school you go to, you will be successful. The first year at college can be overwhelming, some things good, some bad. But just take your time. Become adjusted, and don't try and throw yourself into everything. Remember, you have 4-5 years of fun ahead of you so please don't feel the need to binge drink the entire time, it's really not as much fun as it looks (well the next morning anyway).

What's unique about your campus?

My favorite thing about FGCU is it's small school feel but with a growing population, change is very important and the campus is always changing. What I also like about this change is that there are environmental factors in consideration. The school acutally cares about it's local environment and tries to impact it for the better.

The campus housing. Its apartment style living, with a kitchen and living room. The rooms are spacious and all the furniture is up to date.

My advice is to do research on not only the college but what surrounds it. Make sure that as a parent you know that your child knows where to get groceries, gas, and everyday needs. As a student dont choose your school based on your friends, it might cause you to be there longer then you want. Above all if you dont have a major make sure you choose a school that will give you options and maybe in the end help you decide on one.

When going on college tours - ask the current students what they like about their school. Be sure to ask how hard it is to graduate, whether it be qualifications or even class availability. Also look into the on-campus housing options, schools focus on activites for these students because you live there and will be mre likely to attend.

What's unique about your campus?

Small class sizes allow personable experiences with teachers and classmates. We are considered a medium - large sized school population-wise but there are only 2 classrooms that seat more than 90 students.

What do you brag about most when you tell your friends about your school?

The class size as well as our athletic teams! Go Eagles!!

Deciding when and where you want to go to college can be a very diffcult choice. You have to think of the location, costs and of course the value of the education. However, during my experience of a college student, I believe there is only one thing that can make or break your college choice. You should pick a college where you feel the most comfortable with, with yourself, with your friends, and etc. Do not pick a school based on the football team or the most parties, because in the end, those nights of memories will not get you a job.

What kind of person should not attend this school?

Honestly, I believe that any indiviual would fit in and excell at Florida Gulf Coast University. There are so many postive influences at the university, everyone balances each other out. Personally, I feel that you need to be a responsible, accepting person that can work well with a team in and out of the classroom. If you are not that kind of person, hopefully by attending FGCU you can adapt to your surroundings and learn from others.

The strongest advice I would give to college bound students is to make sure when you visit the campus you explore the campus for yourself. Don't just take what the person giving to tour says for granted. I have had quite a few friends who were miserable at their chosen college because they didn't explore the campus for themselves. After you finally choose a college the piece of advice I would give is to be yourself. It's very easy to loose who you want are when you are in a new environment like a college dorm. But if you just act like who you are you will make true friends that will be there for you.

What kind of person should not attend this school?

The kind of person who wants a school with tons and tons of people and super crazy parties.
