Good, but not amazing.

Friendly student population. Expensive school. Very Hard. Teaching quality can be mixed.

The best thing that Florida Tech has is the people are of part of it. Professors here are nice and always willing to help. Everyone is ready to be your friend and help you out no matter what the problem is. From an international student’s point of view, I couldn't have asked for better. The first day alone I made many new friends. I feel that the campus is not too small and not too big. It's just right. You can get from one end to the other in less than 10 minutes walking. You could easily cut that time in half on a bicycle. I like this because, walking around everyday doesn't become tiring. It allows me to be able to focus on my studies. Coming from Thailand a lot of people have not heard of FIT. After having explained it to them, and telling them numerous stories they are very interested in it. A couple friends that I know have also applied to FIT. Many liked the idea that FIT offers scholarships. Most of my time is spent either in classes or in the dorms where I hang out with my friends while at the same time get some work done. There is always something going on in Roberts Hall and I am glad that I get to be a part of it. Overall I am proud to be a part of Florida Tech; it is a very good institution of higher learning.

I love Florida Tech. I love that the class sizes are small enough that your professor knows your own name and that they are always willing to help you. I love being able to walk across campus alone and arrive at my final destination with several friends. I like being able to walk into my teacher's office and say "I don't understand this, will you help me?" and getting "of course!" as a response. The faculty here really wants you to succeed and they do their best to make it happen, that's what makes FIT a really good school

Overall, my opinion of Florida tech is that it is a very challenged school that will get you very far in life not only because of the education achieved, but also the connections and experiences gained in the school itself. To me, the best thing about the school is the intense interest that the school has in the subjects you love and the resources the school has in order to explore those interests. for example, I am incredibly interested in robotics; building them, testing them, designing them, and at Florida tech, there are so many ways i can feed that passion. There is IEEE which is a robotics team, there is undergraduate research that can be done with professors who have a focus in robotics, and much more. One thing I would change about the school is the dedication faculty puts into their educations. Since most teachers are doing research in the school, the classes they teach can be come second priorities at time. This makes it a bit harder on the student when you have a professor who doesn't care that much about your success of how well you learn the material. the involvement of faculty at school related evens such a plays and fund raisers would also be nice if it was much more prominent. I feel as thought FIT is just the perfect size. It is not too large so you will never be stuck in classroom of 300 other students, but at the same time, it is large enough where you can still have your privacy and different groups of friends. When you tell someone that you go to Florida tech, you wither get two reactions; "what's that?!" or "Oh wow, good for you!!" Since FIT is a very small private school that is highly specialized in certain fields, it is not well known among people who are not involved in those fields. But, those who do recognize it realize how prestigious of a school it is. I spend basically all my time on campus since I live on campus. Also, Melbourne is a very small, rural, old town with not all that much to do. It is definitely not a college town and usually the most exciting things to do are on campus itself. That's also why most of the students live on campus. The school's administration is not bad, but not superior either. The advisors will help if you look for it, but there is definitely alot of weight put on yourself as a student to make sure that you figure out everything for yourself and you make the decisions about your future. The biggest recent controversy on campus I would say, would have to be the chalk writing in front of the student union building about pro-life choices. The club on campus decided to share their views with the rest of the school in a very harsh manner and people who were upset retaliated and wrote their opinions back. In my opinion, I think its dumb to fight on asphalt through means of chalk, but to each his own... There is a decent amount of school pride on campus, usually coming from the athletes themselves. There isn't a lack of pride, but we're not swelling with it either. The one experience I will always remember would have to be my performance in the theater of the fall musical. It was so much fun and I made the best friendships there. The most frequent student complaint would have to be the work load and the stress levels placed upon the student. It is a very rigorous school with very hard classes, so one has to have the tolerance of always being under pressure, with a large amount of work and very little time to do it

It's the best school for international students to feel at ease. It's a small community, and a great percentage of the students are from overseas.

This is a major problem on campus and students constantly complain about it. The size of the school is fine, in my opinion. Larger size would imply a worse student-teacher ratio and that would be bad because the small class size and the good student-teacher ratio are two major factors that cause many students to come to this college, as opposed to bigger state colleges. Florida Tech isn't a very well-known school, which becomes evident when people outside Melbourne (the city it's located in) claim to have never heard of it. When people ask me which school I go to, and I mention FIT, they usually confuse it with Fashion Institute of Technology. Mentioning Florida Tech does not help either. But this is understandable since we are a relatively new college compared to many other colleges in Florida, which have been around for decades before us. I spend my time at various places on campus, from the food courts to the library. It all depends on the occasion. But f there's one place, I frequent rather often, it is a food court called "The Rathskeller" or simply "The Rat". Melbourne is definitely a college town, as it is known because of Florida Tech. However, most people in other cities have not heard of the college and hence of the town. The school's administration is doing a fine job, i guess. They have made many recent developments on campus, such as taking measures to make the campus more beautiful and adding more majors to offer to the students. The Student Government (Of which I am a Senator) also actively recommends various measures to the administration, which are acted upon by them. The biggest recent controversy was the flying accident in which four Florida Tech students lost their lives. They were flying as part of the Florida Tech Aviation program, when their plane crashed moments after take-off. All four in the plane died. This happened a year ago and caused uproar across campus. Sadly, there is very little school pride. A major reason for this is the lack of college's involvement is sports. For example, we don't have a football team as of now. However, i expect things to get better as the college has recently hired a football coach and put together a training camp for interested students. If things happen according to plan, we would have a football team within three years and that should add to the school spirit. I don't think there is anything particularly unusual about the school. If there's one experience i'll always remember, it'll be the nights spent hanging out with my friends in our dorm during our freshman year. Those are some of the best college memories i have so far. Most students often complain about the lack of social scene. In fact, they call the town "Melboring" since there is hardly anything to do in Melbourne. Other than that, the students seem to be quite happy with the college.

When I think of Florida Tech, I think of a school that is constantly growing and achieving new heights. The university is new compared to many older and more established schools. Does this mean Florida Tech is not the better option? Not at all. Florida Tech offers a variety of highly recognized programs in engineering and the sciences taught by world recognized faculty with an average teacher to student ratio of one to nine. This makes for an incredibly personal education where the student receives individual attention from his or her and has access to more opportunities for research and organizational involvement. Florida Tech maintains a reputation for being a top research university and is recognized for much of the undergraduate research opportunities it offers. With Florida Tech continuing to rise in the national rankings and grow at such a rapid rate, I see Florida Tech becoming the next MIT, but with better weather.

When it comes down to it, FIT is great for academics. Especially for those looking into science or engineering studies. The social scene isn't the greatest, but like I said, what the school lacks in social life, it makes up for in the quality of the education you're receiving. The student body is small....very small. I can say that I am involved in 2 or 3 organizations on campus and I am surprised when I see someone I don't at least recognize on campus. With that being said, having such a restricted social scene as well as a small student body makes a really nice community atmosphere. Melbourne isn't a college community, it's a culmination of suburbs so there are a lot of families around. However, I don't find that hinders on social relationships very much. You can grow with the students you meet your freshman year and actually make friends that you can see often no matter what your schedule. The most important thing at FIT is to get involved. It's easy to overlook opportunities to participate in activities (such as Greek life, or campus activities board, etc.) but at FIT, getting involved is so important and allows you to meet much more people than you would without participating. The biggest downfall of the school is definitely the administration. The professors truly care about students and if they are struggling, however, the administration does not. You often here about students who will look to the administration for assistance only to be rejected. Even though the administration is terrible, the attitude and concern of the professors makes it a little bit easier if a student is struggling with grades or finances. One of the biggest complaints and problems with FIT is the lack of student pride and spirit. Since the majority of students are either international students, or individuals overly concerned with their education, attendance at sporting events and campus activities is low. FIT is currently working on establishing a football team, which will be a great addition and hopefully turn around enthusiasm and school spirit, but for now that's an issue. Getting down to the wire, FIT is great for academics. When getting a job local businesses are very impressed with the FIT stamp on a resume, and the education is very high quality. If you're looking for the amazing 'college experience' though, and you're not willing to work to have a good time, FIT is not the place for you. Work hard, play hard is the mindset of most happy students here, and if you are up for that then I would highly recommend FIT.
