Florida International University Top Questions

Describe the students at your school.

Alana

Quickly figure out what career you are interested in, so you do not waste any time. Don't buy your books from the bookstore, instead try to get digital copies or take turns buying and scanning books with your friends. Also use ratemyproffesor.com to find the best classes. The best food on campus is at Almazzar, Sushi Maki, and Tropical Smoothie. Tropical smoothie has the best food for a low price in addition to being relatively healthy. Try hard in your first years even if first year classes seem dumb, your GPA later will thank you for it.

Darel

Stephanie

Carol

In all honesty, every time I step foot in a crowded place I have a panned out map of the direction to be taken. Maneuvering through campus always distinctively feels like a coupled air of awareness of environment with the act of numbing population is truly there. I would have to pin my levels of anxiety for the manner of routing. As far as you flyers and people watching can denote, within the 40,000 individuals I can truly say there is one of all from the most outrageous, funky dresser to the professional heel-wearing business woman. Inhabitants abide to no dress rule though the majority of us opts for a bug sweater and jeans as a matter of comfort and reflection of over night studying. Overall, a cohesion of ethnically and racially different parts.

sabrina

Total enrollment in 2011 was 47,966 students, including 8,819 graduate students, so clearly the campus looks like Disney World in summer. Minorities make up 75{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} of total enrollment, with lots of hispanics. As I have said before in response to other questions, FIU has a very diverse group of students so I don't think anyone will feel out of place. There are even some students who sit alone by the lake while reading a book and no one bothers them, and yet in Graham Center there may be a pep-rally going on. Everything is "normal". Being located in Miami, many students may be from here. Although I was born in Miami, I lived in Kansas for some time. I met some trainer at the gym whom is Persian and some guy from my SLS class who came here from France. I've also met some people with a German background, and me myself have a Cuban-Chinese background. My best friend is Colombian, and one of my new friends is Chinese as well. Most students at the Universty are from the middle-class, although it may vary. There are some who walk around with everything designer and some whom drive a normal Honda. I'd have to say most people, at least that I've met, are pretty liberal. It is kind of a party school, but not so much that no one cares about their studies either.

Mishka

There are many different students at FIU. The school has a lot of diversity so I met people from all over with worldly knowledge and experience. Most students are kind and hold doors open for the next person and are polite. The only time people are rude is if you take their parking spot!

The students at FIU are very diverse. There are all age groups present as well as a mixture of many different cultural backgrounds. Because of this dynamic and diversity we are a good example of the "melting pot" analogy. Most of the students are locals from Miami, and the largest racial group we have is Hispanic. You'll find all sorts of individual expressions at FIU as reflected by the over 200 student organizations that we have. A large amount of students are at FIU to just get their degree and leave, but another portion of our student body is highly involved in student organizations and activities. Overall there is no typical FIU student, we relish in our diversity and embrace it.

FIU is home to more than 40,000 students. You can expect every kind. They are lazy ones who do nothing and bright ones who get constant A's. I've seen both. As an International Student, I never felt out of place. It's college! You can wear whatever you want as long as it's appropriate and suitable, which FIU has. It all depends on you. Are you a people's person? Are you social? If you're not, you'll have to develop on how to become one, because that is one of the features of a global citizen. FIU adopts Global Citizenship. FIU isn't much of an expensive school either. That is why it is home to many students. I believe a university shouldn't be that expensive. Everyone has a right to pursue an education despite the financial difficulties. There is an organization for every kind of student. You like literature? There's a club for that. Are you political? Welcome to the Student Government and the Residence Hall Association. Are you a party-type and friendly? Social Fraternities! Do you seek to have a bright and established future? Professional and Honor Fraternities.
