Florida International University Top Questions

What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

Isabel

The worst thing about my university is the food. There are a variety of food options, however the food supplied at Fresh Food Company is quite horrid. Students have found cockroaches running around the restaurant, they leave the same food out all day and they have the same food options all year. If Fresh Food Company could be more sanitary, have an abundance of options and add more flavor to the food, then maybe the price would be somewhat well spent.

Alana

The worst part of my school is the language barriers you have to deal with. As an English speaking American, its rough when 80{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} of your peers speak Spanish.

Darel

What I would consider the worst thing about my school is that the library is not open 24 hours a day. But, there are other resources available to compensate for that.

Rena

There is no parking because it is a mostly commuter school. Finding a parking space is hard.

Michael

The drive to school based on traffic. I try to leave an hour before class and try to avoid toll roads.

Erika

The worst thing about FIU was the parking situation. Since the school is over populated, you would have to arrive on campus at least an hour or more before your class began and would have to circle to find a parking spot. This is a problem that plagues everyone and FIU at the time offered no relief.

Christopher

The worst thing I would consider about this school is the lack of campus's around south florida. I wish there was a campus closer with the classes I need to take so I dont have to drive long distances to take them.

Taylor

The Campus Housing Department. Freshmen can get upperclassmen dorms and seniors may get freshman dorms. Really unorganized. My friend who was an RA got put in a freshmen dorm his senior year.

Oscar

Parking, its a nightmare for commuters.

Sophia

I have never experienced any disaprovement in my school. The professors are great, and I love my career. I would definitely stay there to comple my master. I love my school for its academic diversity. I have learned a lot both from my peers and my professors. I like the way they provide shuttles to students to travel around the campus. It's an excellent choice to make to attend FIU. FIU has been my dream school since I first came from this country. By attending it, I always feel that my dream has come to past.

Ariadna

The worst thing about school is how to pay for it. Tuition expenses are increasing every year and books as well.

emily

Parking is ridiculous at FIU, I have to show up 2 hours before my class in hope to find a spot.

Katherine

The classes are too big.

Caroline

The worst part would have to be the vast space on the campus being used so poorly. Majority of the university's population commutes to school, but there is barely any room for parking. Yet they are making more buildings to increase the already high number of classrooms, as well as for dorms for the 7{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} of students that live on campus. The events on campus are always located in the same places in front of GL or in GC while there are so many areas the student organizations to go to add variation to the school atmosphere.

Lyzbeth

HOW DO I PAY FOR THIS???

Natasha

FIU is a commuter college; so the majority of the students are not involved in activities after class.

Laura

It's need for rapid expansion. It is causing higher tuition and fewer class selections.

Tahimi

The fact that it is too large for my particular taste and that individuals do not approach you and start up a conversation. The fact that there is no sense of community and that you truly need to figure things out for yourself because there is not always someone there to support you.

Kimberly

At my University, I wish the professors were more enthusiastic in expressing the knowledge of the subject they were teaching.

Seth

I consider the shuttle schedule to be the worst thing about FIU. I appreciate that there is a shuttle service between the main campuses but if a student misses a shuttle they sometimes have to wait an hour for the next one and then end up missing their next class.

David

Probably the location. The Modesto Maidique is located in more of a suburban-type area, not like an urban or city setting, or a historic city-esque setting, which I feel would have more life to it.

Jessica

The worst thing about FIU is that it rains a lot!!! I live on campus so I know. For some reason, mother nature will not rest if it doesn't rain at least once for the day at FIU. Sometimes it will rain for several hours, which left me stranded in the library on a few occassions. If you attend FIU, make sure you own a jacket and a umbrella.

David

Most people at the university don't care about what they are learning and where they will be in a few years. People here are driven by fraternity life and what parties they will be attending during the weekend. As well, most class work is extremely easy for a college level class.

Alexcia

I don't think my school has much spirit, its mostly a commuter school so parking is awful and there are only a handful of dorms or frat houses. I just think that they aren't doing it right. I visit my friends at there schools and there is such unity there I can't see why we can't have the sam experience.

Jennifer

The school sometimes feels somewhat overcrowded. Some classes have oo many students and there aren't enough parking spots on campus for all the cummuting students.

Aneela

The worst thing about my school would have to be the traffic around the main campus.

Genesis

I can't really think of anything terribly wrong with this school. Unless, of course, you fall in with the wrong crowd. At that point, activities of questionable morality and legality appear, and there could be trouble for everyone involved.

Anthony

Being born and raised in Miami, it feels like it is simply a "13th grade".

Jennifer

The worst thing about my school is that is far from where I live. Everything else is great!

yoneisis

the worst thing is the large size of all the classes. Each class has over 200 stuendents so you never interact with the professor

Neya

school spirit is lacking.

Richelle

The worse thing about the school is the inability to get answers from the financial aide department. There is a constant run-around when you are trying to get answers about your money.

sheneka

You must be openminded to all races and ethinicities. Get involved

Jennyfer

The parking at south campus and the limited class selection

Diana

The parking is very hectic at the start of the semester.

Kelley

Parking! They admit so many students but have a limited amount of parking. So, everyday is basically chaos, trying to find a parking space.

Jennifer

Because FIU is a fairly new school, it is ranked lowered than other Universities in the state of Florida. I think it's an awesome school with great professors but it doesn't receive the recognition it desires and it is widely unknown to those who live outside of Miami.

Daniela

The advisors, most of the time you're better off advising yourself.

Lizbeth

My worst experience at the school was that I had an advisor that directed me to take additional courses that were in fact not needed to complete my degree and just ended up delaying my graduation date along with my grade point average. I found myself another advisor, one for my major, and he pointed me in the right direction.

Briana

There is nothing bad about Florida International University.

Lauren

There are way too many students at this University and not enough parking spaces. It is a nightmare. You have to get to school an hour before your class just to make sure you can park your car!

Kishmoe

First of all I attend Florida Memorial University which was not specified in the drop down menu. Its hard to find what the worst thing because I love my school so much but I will say that some students are rude to others rather than helping another person to be as successful in getting an education like them, maybe it is a way of feeling threatened by a liltle competition.

Patrick

Sometimes communication can be hazy between departments. Ex. I've been sent back and forth between departments to try and get a straight answer to a question because no one knew the answer.

Christina

You have to take time out of your own schedule to make sure the staff is doing theirs (ie getting your money to you). Seriously if you wanted to do that you would have applied to be a supervisor, not a student.

Kristen

I don't have anything negative to say about my school. It accomodates to all my needs as well as the needs of other students.

Ernesto

The worst thing about my school is the parking. Since it is a large school there is barely any parking pass 7:30 am in the morning.

Brittni

I think the worse thing about Florida International University is the parking. The garages are always packed and all the spaces are always taken. It has taken me up to an hour to try to find parking at times. It can be fustrating.

Reymundo

Parking. Although there are several garages and parking lots there never seems to be enough for everyone.

Martha

The school is mostly commuter students so the sense of community isn't as strong as I imagined my college experience would bring.

Mabel

the worst thing about my school is how big it is. Some classes are so far apart from eachother and it is a hassle to walk all over the place.
