Im a permanent resident but did my first degree and masters at University of the West Indies, Jamaica and enrolled to start my PhD in Education at FIU this fall. The only frustrating thing for me is that I had no idea that I needed to apply for scholarships long before I know whether I will be granted admissions to the school, and so I don't know if i will be able to afford tution for my first year, so i hope I get this scholarship to help me!

Pursuing an education is essential to succeed as a professional. However, it is frustrating when you want to achieve more and go further but you cannot. Florida International University is one of the most prestigious universities in Miami, yet it is difficult to find good advisors and professors. Unfortunately, the school is overcrowded. They have established numerous exams and requisites for transfer students to fulfill but they do not provide the tools we need to understand better the transferring process.

Katherine

Trying to find parking.

Patrick

Parking can get to be a huge pain. Also, all the food on campus is so much more expensive.

Katherine

There is no student space.

Caroline

Scheduling classes at FIU is the most frustrating task I ever had to endure. The worst part is the university’s cycling of classes. FIU has the logic that every student is on the same path. During the Fall Semester, thousands of classes should be provided for Chemistry I and barely any for Chemistry II, then the reversed for the Spring Semester. For the Summer Semester, barely any upper level courses are provided, because the student should be taking summer internships. Despite the fact that there are part-time internships that can be balanced with college classes.

desmika

The most frustrating thing is having to wait in long lines for the financial aid office, and I totally have a problem with not being able to do track&field and be in a nursing major at the same time.

andrea

In my opinion, the most frustrating thing about my school, would without a doubt have to be , the method used to arrage our own semester schedule. I can hardly find any of the classes i wish to take because of availability. The classes fill up very quickly due to the amount of students and the system fails or the classes fill up and no new ones open.

Kayla

Registering for classes. If your registration date isn't among one of the first available, you might not get all the classes you need.

Teresa

Due to the large amount of people that attend my school, it is very difficult to get around and class sizes are large.

Lawnda

being a new student you have to always ask someone whwere to go, but afterwards its easy.

Daniel

The only thing I can think of that is not-so-good at FIU is that there have been a few cases of misunderstandings and mistakes with certain departments, like Financial Aid

leonardo

It can be boring on-campus unless you join greek. It's difficult to get all the classes you need. Parking is impossible, especially on the first day of school.

Lauren

Parking. The way in which Miami is set up makes it nearly impossible not to own a car, which makes parking at a school with around 40,000 students a lengthy affair.

adegunwa

The school is a commuter school, so most people just come to class and right after they leave for their respective houses also the area of the school is a high spanish speaking area so it is hard to deal with and understand people since I do not speak spanish. There are lots of prerequisites and graduation requirements to be fulfilled.

Jennyfer

The variety of classes offered.

Kimberly

There is not much to be frustrated about except that parking is impossible,

Maria

The size of the school can lead to many inconveniences. Parking spaces are limited (to put it lightly), class enrollment is incredibly competitive and confusing, and class sizes can be incredibly large.

Gabriela

Parking. Lines. Large classes. Costs of books.

Justin

Florida International is a very large university and as such, there are times when one-on-one interaction with professors is difficult because of time issues and student volume.

Charnice

There is no frustrating thing about my school. I love my school and I have pride!

Nicole

Class availability is sometimes very minimal. There does not seem to be enough of a selection for all intended majors.

Amelia

What frustrates me the most is the larger class rooms that can fill up around a few hundred kids at a time. I don't enjoy those classes becuase there isn't enough one on one time with students compared to smaller classes.

Carolina

Probably the most frustrating thing about my school is that sometimes it can be overwhelming. There are so many clobs and so many events going on at once it can make your head spin. Oftentimes, it is difficult to keep up with everything going on.

John

Most frustrating thing about Florida International University is that there is not enough parking spaces for students. To be able find parking and to be able to get to class on time, you are advised by everyone to be on campus looking for parking 30 to 45 minutes before your class begins. Also another frustrating thing about my school is that the food is great, but it is overpriced. And just recently FIU became endrosed by Pepsi. So no more coca-cola.

Christopher

Honestly, the most frustrating thing has to be the class size. Having so many people in one class limits the time you recieve from the professor. with classes of like 120 people, you might not get the attention you need in order to get everything in order for class.

Sasha

I have yet to begin FIU as I have applied and plan on starting in the summer term. Yet, many of my peers are attending FIU and there is a frustration because there are a shortage in amount of classes being offered and fill up extremely rapidly. Also, instead class being held twice a week it is now only once a week, therefore there is more information compacted into one class making the classes a bit more difficult. Lastly, the cost of classes have been raised again.

Anet

The tution rate is really expensive.

Ashley

There isn't really much that is frustrating about Florida International University. It is a great school and they have many different tools and avenues for the students to utilize. It is a very well-balanced school.

Carolina

financial aid always comes through but it is a hassel and takes for ever

natalie

Professors tend to skip amterial that is on exam

Alexandra

Sometimes important departments are unorganized and they have you walking in circles.

Zahilyn

That is very hard to get in touch with the professors.

Carolina

The big bureacracy, the big paperwork you need to fulfill to get a room for a group meeting for example

Juan

for me nothing really is frustrating at my school... the only thing that i can actually say is a little frustrating is that parking at the beginning of each semester, but im pretty sure every college has that problem

William

The most frustrating thing at my school is parking. I have been late to class many times due to limited parking and have been involved in a few parking lot confrontations.

Deiondrick

Not ENough organized activities

Jose

Signing up for classes and being able to get all the ones needed

john-mike

The traffic that surrounds the school

Alex

Dealing with the financial aid and the registrar offices has always been an issue for anyone that I have spoken to. There are always long lines and I am constantly being redirected to other departments, making it difficult for anyone to answer even the simplest of questions. There should be a more organized and efficient system set in place, because this issue becomes a distraction in what is supposed to be a learning enviroment.

THEOPA

I DON'T FIND ANYTHING FRUSTRATING ABOUT MY SCHOOL.

Liv

Again, I attended the smaller campus and lived at home so I feel like it did not offer me the whole college experience

Alexandria

You really have to me on top of your assignments expecially the due dates. Most of the time more then one class assignments are due in the same week. Some assignments I feel are pointless especially when it's about 10 pages or more. Also the parking lot is very frustrating waiting for parking for about half an hour is a pain.

Ana

One of the most frustrating things is the parking. I waste plenty of gas each week driving around the lot and garages. Also, it is very hot in Miami so to walk from any parking on campus to any classroom is a distance.

Zachary

The most frustrating thing about FIU is the staff is very difficult to deal with over the phone. Whether its sending your transcripts or trying to make an appointment to see your academic advisor, you have to drive to the campus and talk to the department directly. When on the phone, you'll be put on hold for a long time, then continuously transferred to different departments to be put on hold again, then finally told that you'll have to come into the department to actually get anything done.

Edward

What really gets my blood boiling about FIU has got to be the move from focusing on academics to athletics. I think that too much funding has gone to building a new statium to build school spirit and attract decent players and coaches that the administration and part of the student body may have forgoten the purpose of college as an academic institution. Especially now that our country is experiencing an economic downfall, I feel that the pressure is on to find ways to pay for classes, rent, insurance, and especially to eat. Us students need more financial help.

Elisa

getting any help from anyone, they connect you to several different people before you can solve your problem

Joel

You're are totally thrown into the school, without much advice, and without much chance at recieving financial aid beyond Bright Futures, especially if you're white.
