Florida State University Top Questions

Describe the students at your school.

Amy

When I step back and think about my forty thousand classmates here at Florida State University many things come to mind they are all intelligent, driven, and very school spirited however one idea seems to stick out in my mind and that would be that each class contains a diverse group of people from every walk of life each bringing their own unique characteristics to the table.

Courtney

Very inquisitive and open minded for the most part. Sometimes attitudes are attacking towards others beliefs (especially in religion classes) but the professors do an excellent job of reminding students of the scholarship of the study of religion, the objectiveness in which we must view it in a university setting, and invite tolerance of opinions. Very diverse cultures, backgrounds, ethnicities, social/economic status in the students. Very good environment for discussions of ethics, culture, etc.

Jessica

For the most part students are helpful and friendly. From being a freshman everyone learns the art or benefit of making a new friend. Tallahassee is a small city so the best thing to do is make lots of friends you can have game night with.

FSU's popluation of around 40,000 students can be alarming at first. That was certianly not a deciding factor when I chose FSU. However, I have learned a lot from my first semester. During this semester, I have surrounded my self with people of different races, cultures, and backgrounds. Together we see the need for higher education and share a love for learning. The people that make up FSU is only a reflection of society apart from campus.

I am a part of a limited access major of 40 students per year. Because it is a competitive program to be accepted into, we are all very driven and smart students. We actively want to learn all that we can about our field. The staff are all extremely knowledgable, since most of them still actively practice aside from teaching. This department also provides many ways for us to be involved through clubs that extend into professional organizations - ASID and IIDA . We are all very different but equally as passionate about learning and being successful after college.

This religious group is like a family; they watch out for you and are wonderful at giving you a faith boost. I LOVE them; they are my FSU family. Sororities here are very fun as well. Greek life is tough because of time commitment but worth it. I am a fan of Gamma Phi Beta girls. FSU is very open to different students so most students don't feel out of place here. Most students wear jeans, T-shirts, dresses, sandals, etc. to class, mainly cute casual wear. Most FSU students are from the South, there are many from Miami, Tallahassee, Jacksonville. Some come from the north, Maryland, New York, etc. The most prevalent financial background is upper middle class. Students are politically aware and active; we have the Yound Republicans or Young Democrats clubs. Students do not usually talk about how much they will earn in one day.

Because the ones who care are always in class, you get to know the faces of those in your classes. Most students are understandable. There is the occassional classmate who will sleep or text throughout class, but I think that is true for all universities.
