Florida State University Top Questions

Is the stereotype of students at your school accurate?

Liz

For certian communities withing the campus at FSU. It is a very small representation of the campus and the student body.

Nelly

to an extent

Megan

Not in the least! Most of the people i went to classes with (i graduated undergrad in 2007) hardly ever partied or got drunk all of the time. We have fun, we have great concerts and speeches and comedy acts and circuses come to campus, but i think that we know how to have a good time AND get to class and make the grade!

Lindsay

This is not accurate. There are many people that got into UF and chose FSU. Also, the academics of FSU are right up there with UF.

Jill

Absolutely not

Meghan

1. At every university there are going to be students who drink and students who don't drink. 2. Both are great universities that excel in completely different aspects. While it's fun to have a rivalry, I would not say that one excels the other overall academically. 3. While some of the liberal arts classes aren't as difficult as most, once you get in to your major, things definitely change.

Emily

Pretty much. Not all the time though, there are some very down to earth people here at FSU

Gene

Well this is about a party town. But what college town isn't? and FSU students are just as good of students as any in the nation.

Jesse

Yes and no. There are a lot of party goers on campus, but there are (a few) people who are more... academically minded.

Jamie

The stereotype about FSU students being the ones who couldn't get into UF isn't true. We just aren't stuck up and rude enough to tell everyone how great our school is. FSU has the 5th best music program of public institutions in the US. Our magnet lab is world renowned. Our football coach, Bobby Bowden, has the most wins. Our alumni include people from Burt Reynolds to Richards SImmons. The first woman to ever win a pulitzer prize in music graduated from FSU. There are so many good things here that no one knows about because we're not arrogant and boastful.

Blake

Not necessarily, I think every school is a party school to some extent

Jack

for the most part, yes; however, a large portion can juggle this and school with ease, because the school isn't exactly difficult to succeed in.

reese

Yes

Ashley

Some of the sorority girls are sluts, but the majority are just really sweet girls and have been in a serious relationship for a while. Yea, most of the students go out a decent amount, but we don't all do it.

Alex

Most of the stereotypes are true. FSU boasts a high morale (due its students love of athletics), and an attractively diverse student body. There is a lot of partying because it's the quintessential college town: you have several schools in a location tailored to meet the needs of its students.

Emily

Its true FSU is considered a party school; there are lots of clubs and other nightlife attractions in Tallahassee. But FSU is also what you make it. We have an organization sponsored by Bobby Bowden which provides tailgating opportunities for underage students. Our student union is constantly organizing on campus concerts and comedian show cases, nightly activities such as carnivals and chalking parties, and late-night bowling and art classes. We even have a fully-stocked, student-run, large-screen movie theatre on campus. Yes, you can go out in the Tallahassee party-scene, but if you choose so, FSU provides more than enough venues for you to enjoy on campus.

Justyn

It is not very difficult to find someone having a party or drinking at FSU, but I think there is a nice balance of partying and studying between most of the students. It is not uncommon to find someone exhausted on a Wednesday or Friday morning from having been out late the night before. The football team has it's ups and downs, and Bobby Bowden has been coaching for a long time so whether the team "sucks" or not, the fans stick with them even on "fair weathered days," a term I've heard one student use. FSU is not as easy to get accepted to as some people may think, those people who claim this tend to be UF fans. Although, FSU does have pretty girls, and there are some cute guys as well. As for the Greek Life, there are very many fraternities and sororities on campus. Most of the houses that they reside in are gorgeous, but Greek life is definitely very prominent on campus, though there are still a good number of students you can find who decided not to join a fraternity or sorority.

There is nothing to do in Tallahassee except drink and watch football so the drinking stereotype is true. There are a lot of snobbish South Florida kids and I've encountered some of the dumbest individuals I ever have here while attending this university. However, the university is big enough to generally avoid those people and find your niche.
