What is your overall opinion of this school?

Becca

FSU is a tight-knit community if you're willing to get involved. Don't sit on the side-lines! There's so much to do and see. FSU and Tallahassee is so much more than drinking and partying. Spend time on your studies, but don't forget that these really are meant to be some of the best years of your life. Get the FSU spirit! Tailgate! And GO NOLES!

Alicia

BIG Party and Football school

Caroline

I love it here. There is a lot of school pride and my favorite memories are football games, socials and formals, and just times with my friends and boyfriend.

Melanie

FSU could be enhanced by accepting diversity better. Not just racially but personal diversity - not everyone needs to buy prada bags and have bleach blonde hair.

Jessica

I spend most of my time on campus either in class or at my sorority house studying or eating in the study attic.

Harper

The campus is beautiful, people are SO friendly, EVERYTHING is within walking distance to/ from campus to Publix, all the dorms, Sorority or Frat houses, Apt Complexes, the Stadium, Potbellys, etf. BEST THING ABOUT FSU IS POTBELLYS :) When I tell people that I go to FSU most of the time they are jealous because of how fun we are up here in Tally! I spend most of my time in my dorm/ Strozier (the library), at the Union, At my Sorority house, and lots of the time at Potbellies. MAJOR COLLEGE TOWN...I absolutely LOVE it! FSU's admin is great, nothing bad I could possibly say. The only complaints I ever heard is that Strozier Library is no longer open 24 hours..but they recently switched it back to open 24hours on the 1st floor. We call it "Club Stroz" because its impossible to go there and not see a few friends and make a few new ones as well.

Emmerson

FSU is a great school, with many different types of majors, classes. The parking is horrible!! I would definately reccommend FSU to a graduating hs senior.. It may be a small town, but there is still things to do! There is a good amount of school pride, but there could always be more.

Robert

The best thing about FSU is the girls. They are all gorgeous here and not only that, they have brains too.

Laura

Everything is so lively. I'll never forget the traditions I've discovered about FSU. Like the fountain on Westcott or the Kissng Bench on Landis Green. FSU has so much history behind it.

Blake

i think our school is just great. i guess it may be a little large but I see people i know acrosss campus all the time. i spend most of my time at the business building or the union since I am a business major and the student union is right near the business building. the biggest controversy at fsu has been the budget cuts affecting the entire campus. they take away sections of classes that we need, as well as cut some classes completely that I would have liked to have taken. there is a lot of school pride. go noles!! everyone always has some kind of FSU gear on. most frequent complaints are parking. there are just not enough spots for students.

Cameron

FSU has a great academic staff, they are always available to help you. I wish there was more parking but the walk is always good exercise. FSU is a great community of people, friendly and you would not even expect that. The biggest controversy for me was being followed on campus one day, but the blue lights that calls FSUPD saved us from where we were and it's something I thought I'd never use. I think I'll always remember the career fairs and productions that HSLU and the BSU put on for free.

Lauren

the best thing about FSU is the campus. we have the best looking campus it's very home-like with brick buildings and friendly staff. the town of Tallahassee is not that great in my opinion but campus is awesome. i spend most of my time at the business school just because it's my major. there is plenty of school pride even though our football team has not been doing so great.

Nina

FSU is the most lively campus I have seen compared to other campuses I've visited. At every hour, some one is doing something. Either sports groups, sororities and fraternities, to all clubs and organizations. They envoke the right of freedom of speech and allow people to speak their mind throughout campus. The layout of the campus is the most economical and works well with the city. I love it :D

Jenna

The best thing about FSU is our history and traditions. Football season is always a blast because we have a great sports history. Students are very involved on campus because our organizations have been sponsering activities for many years. I would change our food options on campus. For those who do not live on campus and do not have a meal plan, the choices are few and are not great. FSU is just the right size; it's big enough to have your own space but not too big to get around. People always know where FSU is and usually respect it. I spend most of my time on campus at the business building or in the library. Tallahassee is definitely a college town. FSU's administration is usually pretty helpful. Some of the advisors don't seem to know what they're talking about. There is a ton of school pride; everyone who goes here loves it. Most students complain about the small selection of class sections. It's difficult to hold a job when the only class hours are in the middle of the day or if you're forced to take classes that are all day.

Kelly

there's a good diversity at FSU, unlike at UF

Alice

FSU's campus is just the right size. So many campuses are really spread out, and the architecture is too modern or just stark in general. FSU has beautiful, old-style buildings and lots of trees, and you really can walk across campus in about 15 minutes like they tell you at orientation. Everything is nicely compact. I really can't imagine going to a school with a sprawling campus that it was a pain to get around on.

Mike

The best thing about FSU is the atmosphere provided to the students. The University wants to make sure the students have the ambition to learn as well as have a personal life. One thing I would change would be the parking situation. I think the campus may be a little too small in comparison to other schools in the South East. People typically react to my enrollment to Florida State in two ways, "I'm sorry," which is the response of a gator, and "Wow, I wish i could have gone there," people other than UF followers. I spend most of my time in the Leach center or the Library. This isn't really a good college town. I think that A good college town is built around the school. If the capitol wasn't in Tallahassee I think the focus of the town would be on Florida State. I think Administration does a great job, i do, however, feel that we should raise out standards. Probably the cheating scandal with the athletics department. During football and baseball season yes.

Andy

The religious preachers should not be allowed to occupy one place for more than 30 mins. They should not be allowed to draw crowds in high walking traffic zones either. It makes it very hard for bikers and those who fear bikers.

Justin

FSU is a beautiful, small campus. You can walk almost anywhere in 20 minutes. We have tons of clubs, fraternities, and sororities to get involved with. One of my favorite things to do is to go to Market Wednedays in the Union. That's where the clubs come out, vendors come to sell things, and people gather just to have a good time. We love to have fun, but we love to learn as well. Also, the immediate area around campus is definitely a college town, but if you want to get away from it just go a little north of I-10 or east on Apalachee Parkway.

Evan

The best thing about FSU is that there is always something going on around campus, and there are always activities hosted by some group to participate in. If not, there is always the Student Life Center where they play movies that are picked out by the student committee, and there are other things to do at the Student Life Center. The best thing is that are many alternatives to going to the club or drinking everynight, although there is still the option if you want to drink and go clubbing. One thing that I would like to change about FSU is that there should not be so many students smoking so many times a day. There are always kids and adults smoking all around campus especially right outside of the dorms and classroom buildings. I don't think that there is such a thing as a school being too large, unless the only thing you are going to college for is trying to be ranked within the top 50 students academically. Then you are not going to college for the full experience, which is essentially networking with the leaders of future endeavors to make the world a better place. The larger the class size the better your chances of succeeding then, and enjoying your college years while they happen. Many people would argue that there are way too many students on campus, but the companionship that you can find when you take the time to meet all of these students is much more rewarding than what you would experience on a smaller campus. When I tell people that I go to FSU I am usually asked how I like it, and then they tell me that they would rather go to UF and don't have much reason as to why they would choose UF over FSU. I wish that there wouldn't be as much of a rivalry between UF and FSU students outside of football, but there is always somebody that likes to bring up the assumed inferiority of FSU students to UF students. Other than this rivalry most people like to hear what is great about FSU and why I chose to go there. Most of my time on campus is spent in the dorm. Otherwise it is spent at the Student Life Center of the Leach Center. The Student Life Center has many things to offer in terms of entertainment, and the Leach Center has much to offer if you are involved in any sport or just want to work out. FSU is definitely known as a college town, and there is always something to do for college students anywhere around town. The town definitely caters to the college ages and the clubs are constantly hosting events that are attractive for college students. There are also many bands that pass through town, mostly at the Beta Bar, that many college students like. The administration at FSU is helpful. I haven't experienced much beyond the advisors for the College of Business, but they have been beyond helpful in helping me accomplish what I want. At the University Center, the Academic Advising Center also is helpful for those involved in any of the FSU sports, and can also provide a job for junior and senior level students in terms of tutoring. The biggest recent controversy on campus involved a fight in the dorm between an intoxicated student and a non-intoxicated student. The intoxicated student confronted the non-intoxicated student and started calling him names. The non-intoxicated student will be called John and the intoxicated student will be called Harry. John asked Harry to go into his room and leave him alone because he was clearly drunk and acting stupid. Harry refused to leave John alone and eventually Harry lost his temper and started yelling at John, and at this point the RA called downstairs for more help, and the downstairs lobby called the FSUPD. When the FSUPD got there they ended up charging John with endangerment even though Harry was clearly intoxicated and could not think correctly. The moral is that if the police are coming, wear nice clothes so that you don't get falsely charged for something you didn't do. There is a lot of school pride at the football games. There are sometimes where pride turns into stupidity and a Seminole fan will fight a fan of the opposing team because of the banter between the rivals. There are always other sporting events to go to throughout the year, but they do not draw nearly as vast a crowd as the football games. There really isn't anything that unusual about FSU, but there are some rumors that some of the dorms are haunted, such as Cawthon Hall. Besides that, the building next to Suwannee Room looks kind of ominous at night when the lights are out. One experience that I'll always remember at FSU is when my friends and I all decided to go to one of their apartments, and I danced and sung multiple songs all night until we fell asleep. Besides that, the blackout due to the plane crash was pretty memorable as everybody decided it would be a good time to scream and run up and down the halls of the dorms. The most frequent student complaints are usually about the noise in the halls during the night. A lot of the kids often come back drunk and noisy in the middle of the night and wake up some of the kids in the dorms. The next most common complaint is being hungry or bored, which is frequently solved shortly after.

Ron

The main aspect of this school I would change would be to cut funding (especially salaries) earmarked for the university's bloated athletics program budget and devote a hefty portion of it to funding assistantships and scholarships.

George

We have nice weather and a wide selection of courses. I would want our library to be more up to date. The size of the school seems adequate. People assume I love to party and do not take academics seriously when I tell them I go to FSU. I spend most of my time on campus in my classes, haning out on campus could be exciting if there happens to be something occuring. We have a circus thats pretty unusual.

Harper

I think it is a little large, some of my classes are humongous and you feel really disconnected from the professor. However, I have never had a professor I didn't like or wasn't willing to talk to me one on one after class. Tallahassee is definetely a college town; underage drinking is rampant, there's at least 500 amateur bands, and everyone drinks a whole lot. There's definitely a shitload of pride at FSU, which is awesome (if you sit in the student section at a football game you will not sit down the entire time). My favorite thing to do around campus is, during my hour break on M-W just go sit in the sunshine on Landis Green. There's tons of kids throwing frisbees, girls laying out, people just studying and listening to music... its awesome. On the whole there's just a few things I think I'd change, probably how standoffish frat/sorority kids are towards kids like me, and how much money they suck out of your bank account... and they wonder why i'm starving.

Mandy

The best thing about FSU is the sense of community; I love walking around campus in a sea of garnet and gold. The campus is, however, extremely spread apart; I'd like to see a faster, more efficient transportation system on campus. Our campus is large, but it is very spread apart, and is, by no means, crowded. This makes the campus visually appealing and emits a positive atmosphere. When I tell people I go to FSU, they either admit to being gator fans or are alum themselves. It is a great sense of community; it makes for instant friendship in strangers! I find myself spending most time on campus on our central green, Landis Green. It is a quaint area central to campus, and the hot dog stand there is delish! I love spending lunch time there between classes! We do have several colleges in Tallahassee, FAMU, FSU, and TCC. There are lots of twenty-somethings in a very small area! I've found our administration to be very efficient in working towards the good of the student body, addressing concerns very quickly and professionally. Our biggest complaint is the price of tuition and the cutting of library funding. I am unaware of any large controversies recently. Seminoles are full of pride and that is a central ideal that an FSU student quickly picks up on within the first few days of being on campus. My most memorable experience on campus was my first semester exam week, when I entered the jam packed Strozier library which had weeks before, been barren. It was quite the studying experience!

Megan

I think dorm life is the best way to start out at FSU. You meet your friends that way. People don't want to talk in class initially because we are paying for it! I think Florida State is the perfect size. You have the university feel with a close knit community too. You almost feel like you are in a small town here, it is definitely a college town. People that are from the area love FSU. IT feels like the completely support the school and its students.I think there is a lot of school pride except for this football season. Recently the biggest controversy on campus was the CBR (Center for Bioethical Reform)'s presentation on abortion. It was horribly graphic and offensive to EVERYONE, no matter what you stand for. Students were really upset and protested.

Parker

The best thing about FSU is the social environment. I suppose you'd find this same kind of environment in other colleges, but in some you wouldn't. Also it's very convenient when you have a bright futures scholarship. It's a fairly small campus, but I'd prefer it to a larger one that you'd have to drive to get anywhere. None of my folks have gone to any college in Florida, so when I tell them I go to FSU, they're pretty neutral on it. I spend most of my time in my dorm, at the Student Life Cinema, or around the Fine Arts Building or Annex. FSU administration, like any other academic administration, works to cut down art programs so they can build up "more important" programs like business, science, law, and sports programs. Tallahassee is not college friendly. It's fairly spaced out, and public transportation is a wreck. Basically college life is contained.

Leslie

The best thing at FSU is the Seminole pride that everyone has especially at sporting events you can tell everyone is proud to be a Florida State Seminole. I think Florida State is just right, plenty of people to meet and become friends with but if you get involved it doesn't make the campus seem so overwhelming. I spend most of my time on campus in my dorm, at the Leach center, at my sorority house or laying out on beautiful Landis gren. Tallahassee is definately a college town with TCC, FSU and FAMU all in one city. It's bars are a definite college scene and it has plenty of college based activities around town.

Jesse

girls, more girls, FSU is the perfect size if you like people... def a college town

Dale

The best thing about FSU is the scenery. I'd change the size of Tallahassee, however. Sometimes there aren't enough things to do here. The school's size is just right, but some people may find it too large for their taste. People react mostly in a positive manner when I tell them I go to FSU because it is a respected university in Florida. (Except if you're a Gator!) I spend most of my time in my dorm or in the library. Tallahassee is a huge college town... I was born and raised here, so Seminole athletics are a way of life. FSU has a great deal of school spirit, it's amazing.

Lauren

The best thing about FSU is the school spirit! FSU's Seminole pride brings people from all walks of life together for one purpose: to support the FSU Seminoles on their way to victory! One thing that I would change about FSU is faculty-student relationships. I would love for students to be able to feel a strong bond with their faculty so they will not be afraid to ask quesetions about subject matter or even future career goals. Florida State is a very large school, but I believe that the size is just right. When I tell people that I attend Florida State, they at first seem shocked (because I went to a private Christian school my entire life) but are also proud that I took on the challenged of a 40,000 student public university. I'm loving every minute! I think that the administration at FSU is amazing! The people work hard and care about the students and attempt to make decisions that will affect student's lives in a positive manner. I spend most of my time on campus in the Union. I love going to the student union to see everybody that you would not normally see or to just hang out in the eatery or even the Bridge Lounge. Tallahassee is definitely a college down in the FSU/FAMU/TCC region. The area of Tallahassee, which is where students spend the majority of their time, is truly a college town from the atmosphere to the people to the places (that stay packed past 2 in the morning!). The biggest recent controversy on campus was the 2008 SGA election. Insight, the longest running and most winning political party on campus, lost the seat of the President to a new campus organization entitled Torch (congratulations new President-elect Laymon Hicks!). School pride IS FSU! When one attends Florida State, they automatically gain school pride that they never knew they had before! The unusual thing about FSU is the diversity yet unity on campus. Everyone is different and embraces their diversity, yet they are accepting of most everyone and will learn to appreciate those people's differences as well. One experience I will always remember is the first football that I attended with Lady Spirithunters! It was an amazing experience full of Seminole pride like nothing else I've ever experienced before. Frequent student complaints would be mandatory meal plans. Why do we have to have a meal-plan if we live in a certain dorm/

Morgan

The best thing about FSU is the diversity. One thing I would change is how funding is allocated to RSOs (Registered Student Organizations). AND the fact that Tallahassee is sooooo country! The school is large, which is fine by me! When people hear that I attend FSU, they are either one of two things: supportive or JEALOUS!!! I spend most of my time in the library (checking my facebook) or in the Union (with my organizations). "WHAT COLLEGE TOWN"- being from a big city, its hard to find enough events and activities to go to in Tally. No celebs come here and concerts are once in a blue moon! There aren't any amazing sightseeing areas and the parks are terrifying. AND, check this out....there are 2 malls in Tally....that's right, its tragic....only TWO!!!!!! Which means EVERYONE has to shop at these TWO malls. I, personally, dont shop in Tally because there is a 100{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} chance that someone WILL have your outfit on! Anyway, im done ranting...FSU administration does there best to keep FSU on top. Its not easy to keep it up, especially wih the budget issues lately, but they are doing what they feel is best. Biggest recent controversy.....not sure. Probably the fact that almost half of the football team was involved in a cheating scandal last season....scandalous! LOTS of school pride...even though we keep losing....The unusual thing about FSU is that they are willing to cut back on library and computer time to build more buildings and for 'beautification projects'. Plant some grass and give us our computer labs back! Experience to remember was coming to orientation and wanting to go home IMMEDIATELY because I felt like a minority...most frequent complaints is PARKING!!!! ITS TRAGIC!!!

Emily

The Best thing about FSU is how "homey" it feels. It seems like there is a disease that once you go to FSU and live in the area, you can never leave! (or at least while in college) People are friendly here and everyone hangs out with everyone. There is a pride that you get when walking on campus because there is so much history. The school pride definitely lowered when our football team wasn't doing too good, but we still stood up for the team and have pride that we are the Seminoles. The most recent controversy on campus was Our football coaching staff and people quitting...aka: getting fired.I spend most of my time at the Psychology building or the library. when I tell people that I go to FSU I get great remarks. People get proud, envious and happy. I do not know much about FSU's administration, but obviously they are doing good things. what I would change is our roads- they are so crappy and everytime you drive anywhere you are getting jerked around. It also makes the campus look "dirty", so I think clean up and construction is needed to make our campus look nicer. Parking lots need to be paved because people get stuck in the rocks sometimes! Also- because campus is so old, everything is so tight and random. There will be random poles and weird stuff everywhere. But this all adds to the feel of going to FSU so its cool! of course, more parking is needed, but they have done great at building garages. I always remember my freshman year and all the randomness with it. One of the best years of my life.

Amanda

The best thing about FSU is the football games. Every game day, home or away, you gather with a bunch of people (some you know, some you don't) and you end up watching the game as a group. It truly is an UNFORGETTABLE experience. The one thing I would change would be more REAL professors teaching classes and less grad students. FSU is the perfect size; at first it seems huge but after a week you will know it like the back of your hand. Tallahassee is a great college town! There are two major colleges and lots of smaller colleges in the area so there is something for everyone. FSU has a reservation that a lot of students go to where you can tan, play volleyball, kayak, canoe, or swim in the lake all for free. There are malls, movies, clubs, bars, parties.. anything you can imagine is here. The FSU administration could be better. My personal opinion is if you aren't 100{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} sure what you want to do go in as exploratory major that way you don't get screwed over. The advisors only answer what you ask them and don't go into more detail that will be useful down the line but be firm and they will eventually help you. There is so much pride at FSU. If you are a fan of our rivals you will get taunted while in Tallahassee but it is all in fun. People take the "Seminole Pride" to the extreme with body paint and costumes. One experience that I will ALWAYS remember is my entire freshman year. It is extremely scary but very eventful. Live in a dorm if at all possible; it is worth it. Dorm life is part of the college experience and a life changing event. The first football game will give you a since of awe. Watching a game on tv will never be the same after that. The first party is also eventful. You will see similarities between the college parties in movies but yet realize it it totally different. The most common complaint of students is parking and towing. Tallahassee is very tow happy so DON'T BRING A CAR!! Especially if you are living on campus.

Megs

The best thing about FSU- hmmm I'm not sure I could pick just one! The campus is beautiful, the weather is perfect, there's nothing better than a BBQ and a tailgate on a Saturday afternoon with 80,000 of your closest friends. We are a family, and we treat each other that way, students and alumni alike. Parking SUCKS! I would definitely fix that if I could! I think FSU is the perfect size, it's big enough that you can immerse yourself in so many different things, but it's small enough that you always know someone who knows someone... People always react positively when I tell them I go to FSU, I have pride in my school, and I think that it radiates through me when I speak about it. I spend most of my time on campus either in class,or at one of the athletic events. I love sports, but am very dedicated to my degree. Total college town. Tallahassee thrives off of Florida State, and the community loves the FSU students, which makes it a GREAT place to be! I love our president, TK Wetherall. He went to FSU, played sports here, he gets it. He knows what it is like to be one of us, and he always takes that into consideration. Everyone has school pride. We love our school. There is nowhere better! The one unusual thing that no one else has is a direct tie to their mascot. We are the Seminoles, and the Seminole tribe of Florida support us wholeheartedly. They love that we represent their people in a positive light, they even went to bat for us when the NCAA threatened to take that away from us. They are our heritage, I AM a Seminole, WE are FLORIDA STATE! The experience I will always remember would be my very first football game as an undergraduate... walking from my house to the stadium, meeting friends and family at a tailgate, being invited to random other people's tailgates along the way, because that's how we do it here at FSU, when the Marching Chiefs come into the stadium playing, and the football team runs out onto the field, I had chills. It was a gorgeous fall day, sunny, breezy, I was there with 80,000 friends who I had never met before, but we all had one thing in common: FLORIDA STATE!!!

Samantha

- The best thing about FSU is FOOTBALL! - I would get rid of all the foreign teachers. - I personally love the size of FSU. It seems big at first, but you just have to find where you fit in. - Most are pretty enthusiastic. FSU is very well respect all over the country. - I am an Engineering major so I don't get to be on main campus. :( - Tallahassee is definently a COLLEGE TOWN! When the students leave the place is dead! - I work for both FSU and FAMU and FSU is by far the better university! I enjoy working with the administration. They have always been more than helpful with anything I needed. - The changes in Bright Futures has been a large controversy on campus. However, and couple different suicide attemps trouble me. - There is a ton of school pride. If you are a NOLE, you are damn proud of it. Most would say they bleed Garnet and Gold! Also, your hatred for the Gators will eventually emerge!!! - There is a stained glass portrait of Bobby Bowden in the stadium. This is the largest stained glass portrait of anyone other that Jesus! Bobby is only second to God! - I will always remember standing in the student section in the beating sun doing the seminole chop to the warchant. The thought of the band playing and everyone chopping together still gives me the chills! - Everyone hates the hills. The people from Miami complain it is too cold! Parking SUCKS!!!! Foreign teachers are no fun.

Ali

I LOVE FSU! The people are friendly and the school spirit is amazing, which is what drew me to FSU in the first place. If I could change something, it would just be to add more parking for both students and teachers. I think that the campus is just right. I love how the actual campus is compact, so we don't have to walk too far to get from one side to another. The population of students however is perfect. Not too many people that you can't get a feel for the school, and not too little students to be butting into your personal life. The only reaction that people give me when I tell them I go to FSU is teasing about the football losses and recently, the cheating scandal. I live off campus so the place I spend the most time at are my classes in the Rovetta building. FSU is definitely a college town. Every marketing and business is revolved around student satisfaction. I think that having FSU, FAMU, TCC and Keiser all in this one city helps make Tallahassee a college town. When I think of Tallahassee, I think of college town before I think of capital city. The football cheating scandal is a pretty big deal. We pride ourselves in academic honor and something like this, makes us look bad. We are huge on football, and I feel let down by our players. My most favorite thing about FSU is our pride. I know I have pride because of all the wonderful things that FSU has to offer. I will always make FSU my number one school no matter what because of the values it has instilled in me. I also feel like my peers and teachers have pride too. It means a lot when teachers tell students that they love this school. Pride is something that we can't break down. I do find something not necessarily unusually, but I've always questioned why there are those concrete snake/dragon looking things that block off roads around Westcott. It's not really the experience, but the people who have made my experience at FSU, I cannot forget.

Liz

The best thing about FSU is the campus size, you attend a major university for the state of florida, but it is a small campus, that gives the small school vibe. People simply say oh, too bad about your football team or athletics when I tell them where I attend school. There is a lot of school pride, but it revolves mostly around football, which is what I would like to change.

Nelly

Nice campus. I don't understand why there is always so much construction. It's just right. They are proud because it is a well known university. Dorms. Definitely a college town. I don't know them personally. Elections. Yes, at school events. Not really. Football season. Bad living arrangements on campus.

Megan

Our athletics programs are awesome. From intramural sports to club sports to v arsity athletics...we have it all! One thing i'd change right now is all of the budget cutting going on around the university, it seems likely to affect scholarships and grants for those who can't afford to take as many courses as they'd like to. Also, not all graduate students get usage of the Leach center facilities. Grad students are as much of a part of FSU as the undergrads... help us out! I spend most of my time off campus because i like 2 miles away, i can ride my bike if i choose to. I love tallahassee, it's a great place. I grew up only 30 miles away in a small town thinking that Tallahasssee was "the big city." :) There is a ton of school pride... we seem very focused on that. And groups like the Lady Spirithunters are regular moral boosters around campus, as well as are the Seminole Student Boosters. I can't remember any really big campus controversies, just athletes cheating, that seemed to be the biggest one lately.

Lindsay

One of the best things about FSU is the pride and tradition. Recently with the Seminole True Pride Campaign, Seminole from all over have been united. Student at FSU are proud to wear garnet and gold. I think the size of FSU is perfect. It is large enough to get a full college experience and get the perks for going to a large school, but it has a small college feel. Tallahassee is definitely a college town. With FSU, FAMU, and TCC, all in the same general area, there are college students everywhere. There is always something to do. Something I will always remember is being thrown in the Wescott Fountain on my 18th Birthday. It is a tradition to throw people in the fountain on special occasions, and it is always a lot of fun. Students usually complain about parking. There never is enough and there isn't really much anybody can do about it.

Jill

The best thing about FSU is the atmosphere. People here are all one big family, no matter how big our school is. The spirit is inevitable to catch once you step foot on our campus. I think the size of our school is perfect. It is very large and there are over 40,000 students, but that is what makes us such a diverse community. Tallahassee is definitely a college town, especially surrounding the campus. Although it is also the capital, everything in Tallahassee seems to be centered around the Seminoles. The biggest controversy that has recently been an issue is the academic cheating scandals. There is TONS of school pride. Even though we haven't had a great football season in the past couple of years, we still bond together and stand behind our team. And this goes for all sports. Experiences I will always remember about FSU include sunbathing on Landis Green, playing football with friends on Landis Green, Market Wednesdays in the Union, annual ice cream socials with TK Wetherell, all of the Homecoming festivities, and attending all the sporting events. I think the biggest complaint from most of FSU students is about parking. There never seems to be enough parking throughout the day until the early afternoon, no matter where your classes are.

The best thing about Florida State University is the atmosphere. Because the campus is small and the buildings are close together, there is an unclassifiable emotion that comes from merely walking to class. At sporting events, fans come together to root on their team collectively. Though you probably won't end up being best friends with the people around you at the sporting events, everyone remembers the big plays and the sense of unity. I feel that the school is just right in regards to size and population of students. One thing I would change is people's impression of this university and the negative connotation people have associated with it. It is commonly assumed that because I am a Seminole, I spend all of my time out drinking, when in all reality, I'd rather spend time at the school events (i.e. Breakfast for a Buck, at the Student Life Cinema, etc.) than at a bar. Though our school may get caught up in some scandals (especially the football team), there is still a huge amount of pride in being a student here because of all the amazing things FSU has to offer. One unique thing that most people do not know is that FSU is one of the few universities with a circus. FSU Flying High Circus is world-renown and in the comfort of your own back yard once you become a student here. Most students tend to complain about class availability and the residence halls. Because of budget cuts, some classes are offered less often or taken away completely. Also, people have a hard time adjusting to residence halls. My advice as a Resident Assistant is to go in with an open mind. Every residence hall offers a completely different experience from any of the other buildings, so take advantage of the building you live in, whether it be community style or suite style, because some of your best memories can potentially come from where you live. One experience I will always remember is my first birthday here at FSU. Starting it with ice cream at the Diner at midnight, followed by a day of classes, dinner with friends, and ending it by being thrown in the Wescott Fountain was a day I'll never forget. For those that don't know, there is a tradition at FSU that you are not a TRUE Seminole until you have been thrown into the Wescott Fountain on your birthday. Small traditions like this one help make Florida State the university that it is.

The best thing about FSU is the campus, it's absolutely gorgeous. I'd change the price of things. Everything is really expensive. And I'd change stuff about the union, it isn't very pretty. The size is just right. Most of the time on the West side, but I love Landis Green.

The traditions are the best! The thing i'd change is parking because there is none. FSU is pretty big but I like it and i think it depends on personal choice. Most of my time on campus is spent in my dorm. College town for sure. I have no problem with our administration but then again I'm not very familiar with it. There was a big controversy over the abortion campaign in the middle of campus a couple weeks ago. There is TONS of school pride! I don't think anything is unusual here. One experience i'll always remember is getting thrown in the Westcot fountain for the first time on my birthday (campus tradition) . A lot of complaints come from the parking issue.

The best thing about FSU are the people that you can meet. I would change how much money goes to athletics. It's just right. Once you find your niche, you can get around really easily in the social circles. But it is big enough to lose yourself if you want to. Most people in Florida either grin and tell me that they are 'Noles fan, or grimace and admit they went to UF. Outside of Florida, no one really seems to care one way or another. They're just content that I graduated. Definitely, definitely a college town. Not the greatest college town, but seriously, Tallahassee is her universities. And maybe the occasional politician. I've never had a big problem with the administration at FSU, but I was in and out pretty quickly. When I graduated, the biggest controversy was Jeff Bowden and his career with the Seminoles. But I heard the story about the football players who cheated on some test and got banned from a game. There is a LOT of school pride at FSU. Almost too much. There's nothing too unusual about FSU. Except for the absolute LACK of parking spaces/dorm rooms. But that's sort of normal. I'll always remember RFOC (RIP).

There are too many great things about FSU to pick just one. I would change the amount of parking spaces, or alter the way they are used. FSU is just the right size. It's big enough to meet new people all the time, but I also see my friends on campus quite often. I've never had a bad reaction when I tell people I go to FSU. I don't spend a lot of time on campus. Tallahassee is absolutely a college town. There are 3 schools here. Most FSU teachers are amazing. The few that weren't as fantastic as the rest were still better than most high school teachers. This school has much pride, but not in a conceited way. People will do the chop out their car windows or yell out the war chant and others really respond positively. I'll always remember every birthday being thrown into the Wescott fountain. It's a tradition here and it's so much fun.

The amount of people that go here is huge, but I still manage to see familiar faces on campus every single day. It's a college town, as in the town's night life thrives on the few bars on the few strips that we have. The administration is great, they are just starting to cut back on budgets because of state budget cuts, not because of anything that the university did themselves.

the school is very traditional in style, with lots of renovations, but a beautiful campus nonetheless. i'd wish their bus system was a bit more prompt, but this has always been a problem and is just getting better, rather than worse. This school is basically tallahassee, and is very much a college town, despite being quite packed together (in contrast to UF's wide open campus). the school pride is ferocious, and rightly so. however, should the local paper bring up our recent losses, god forbid you be a 'true seminole.' it's a great school with plenty to offer. anyone in doubt should lay their worry to rest because there's just too much to enjoy for everyone.

The best thing about FSU is that it has a lot of programs and interactive activities for incoming students. I'd change the way some things are organized in my specific college (College of Textiles & Human Sciences). Campus is pretty big, but I think it's great. People will usually say something about the Seminoles when I tell them I go to FSU. I don't spend much time on campus, but when I do it's in my classes. College town, definitely. FSU's administration is great. The biggest controversy on campus was when football players were caught cheating on a test. There is a lot of school pride.

What's the best thing about FSU?: The environment. Everyone is polite and willing to help you out if you need something. Also, you can never be bored around here. I would change the fast food restaurants on campus. We really need some more variety. The school is just the right size. We don't have major roads running through the university which is really nice. You can also walk across campus in about 15 minutes. I spend most of my time on campus sitting around Williams building (english building) reading or doing homework. Tallahassee is definitely a college town. We have tons of school pride. Everyone comes out for our football games and celebrates afterwards when we win.
