What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

Sarah

Looking for the 'right' college can be a difficult task but it is necessary for one to take the effort to really look into the schools that have become possibilites. The size, orientation, and available majors may sound fitting but there could be information in these pamphlets we all receive that are inevitably left out. Whether the classes are larger or smaller, are the teachers adequately prepared? If the campus is labeled Conservative or Liberal, how many students actually fall under that category and what affects will it have on an impressionable new student? Just because the major is available, does that mean the program has been around long enough to be a sufficient educational surrounding? The best way to undestand a school's makeup is to visit the campus and talk with the students; nobody can understand better than them the lifestyles lived on campus.

After researching schools online make sure you visit the school and go to classes. Talk with students and ask them if they've gotten what you're looking for.

Make sure you visit them campus and talk to the students who go there not the someone who is paid to make the college seem desireable. Decide early on what your major will be this ensures that you wont take unneccessary classes. College can be very expensive so save money on the small things especially books. These can be bought much cheaper from fellow students and online as well.

Be excited and know if you are ready. Do NOT go away to college if you would prefer to travel, work, or take a year off school... that is not lame! It is healthy to need a break and you might get a lot more out of your school academically and socially if you are well prepared. Get ready for amazing times - school is hard and the tests/papers kill you but if you can find a way to BALANCE everything will be ok.... sometimes (always, actually) people come before academics. Live with fun people - no one likes a debbie downer

Finding the right college is quite a process, you have to look at all of the aspects of the college on paper and online, but you also must visit any colleges that you are thinking seriously of attending. Another very important thing for me, was praying about it. God knew where He wanted me for school, and I needed to seek His wisdom in this situation. When you go to school, you must make the most out of your college experience. I have been told that college is the best 4 years of your life, so you have to milk it while you are there. You do this by getting involved in your school, making a lot of friends, and actually going to your classes, studying, and trying really hard because, after all, you and your parents are paying BIG BUCKS for you to go there.
