George Mason has welcomed me into their arms and held my hand and watched me blossom. So much support from my close community of educators and classmates and yet a calm and relaxed environment for studying and concentration. I love George Mason, of course, it is hard to pay off, but I am learning with exceptional tools and opportunities.

I'm an incoming student but I'm really excited to start learning and the courses are very strong in the technology area. I just need help financially but the school in my opinion is perfect for me to move forward to achieve my dream. Not only that but the Faculty are very helpful and provide multiple solutions to assist students. The other students as well are very open and kind.

Since I began attending school at George Mason I feel as I truly became apart of the Patriot family! I was always shy in high school and stayed to myself, but at George Mason, I felt comfortable enough to try new passions and activities. At GMU there is an array of activities to do so you will never be bored on campus, however, weekends on campus are less jammed and quiet pack due to GMU being a commuter school. If you are looking for a school with high levels of diversity and open to new cultures then George Mason is for you! Mason really prides itself on its diversity and that is shown through many cultural events held on campus. Lastly, yes GMU has its issues from lack of housing to sub-par food, but it is all truly worth it, Overall I think as a second-year student at GMU its a great school

What is your overall opinion of this school?

When I think back to my days at George Mason University I immediately think about my poor experiences with academic and financial advisors. I was always so apprehensive and terrified to approach them due to their abrasive nature. I knew I would leave feeling worse than I did going in to meet with them. I was a first generation college student doing it blind, and they always seemed so impatient with my and my lack of knowledge. Outside of that, there are many qualities of this university that I admire. The campus is vast and beautiful; the buildings, the dorms, and many dining areas are delightful. There is a very open and welcoming culture among the undergraduate community. I highly recommend joining greek life or one of the many clubs/organizations. Personally, being a part of a sorority truly enriched my undergraduate experiences here at GMU.

George Mason University is beautiful to walk around in and the atmosphere is very friendly. Lots of great on-campus amenities and students are always smiling. We are very inclusive which adds to that friendly environment/atmosphere as students are always willing to help out other students. Though student life is great, the on-campus housing is garbage. Housing staff doesn't answer students questions and they are always rude. Not professional how they run their department and one of the main reasons why it degrades my overall opinion of George Mason. You pay too much for on-campus housing when you can spent the same amount of money for a nice apartment off-campus (which I'm doing). It's a shame to see a university with so much potential have a housing department that makes students warn others to avoid living on-campus at all costs.

Overall, the school is quite good. The learning environment is safe and the people there (both students and professors) are overall quite nice. The academic atmosphere is also quite active, when you're in the right group. Overall, I enjoy the school, the people I've met, and the experiences I have had.

George Mason is my home away from home. Everyone is amazing and they truly want to be there. The advisers and professors make themselves available whenever possible and truly strive to see student success. Additionally, the on campus community thrives and there's so much to get involved in. There is truly something here for everyone.

George Mason has provided an environment great for learning and living. There are plenty of academic opportunities through the school's location as well as through campus clubs and professors. There are so many ways to get involved, and there's an incredibly accepting and welcoming atmosphere.

What is your overall opinion of this school?

This school was a mediocre college experience for me. Academically, the school has a lot it needs to improve upon. Many of Mason’s professors are not great educators and only work in the classroom because it is required to conduct research with the college. Mason also does not competitively teach it’s staff, and talented teachers often leave to work at more competitive schools. As a result, Mason has a lot of professors who are poor at teaching. My academic experience was fine for the most part, but that was because I constantly used RMP to avoid bad instructors. However, it’s not always possible to avoid them. Many of the electives do not have a diverse staff, and I encountered several very bad teachers in my elective social science courses. Personally, I feel like I got a very solid education while I was at Mason, but not everyone I knew was so fortunate. The housing situation was not ideal either. The dorms my friends and I stayed in were old and not exactly the most comfortable to stay in. To make matters worse, the school demolished all of the old dorms, devastating an already strained supply of rooms. Construction is also a problem at Mason. It never ends! There always seems to be some sort digging, building, or demolition happening around the school. While safety hasn’t been an issue so far, it is disruptive to student life, parking, and it’s not exactly pleasant to be around. Maybe the construction will come to an end one day, but it went on for years since before I arrived, and it has continued perpetually since I left. It is doubtful that the dust will settle any time soon. The parking situation is also bad and getting worse. The close parking lots are constantly jammed. The far-away parking lots have spaces, but they’re also a cross-campus trek away from your classes and dorms. Just hope that you don’t leave anything that you need to go back for. However, my *biggest* problem with GMU, by far, is it’s glaring lack of opportunities for students that other colleges proudly display. This is a very niche complaint, but there is NO football team and NO marching band... two of the biggest college activities in the US! Mason has a basketball team and a fantastic pep band, but there is so much more that the school should have. I know there are students and professors who want these things, but the school administrators seem to feel otherwise. For now, both athletics AND the arts seem to be on the back-burner of this construction-ridden, crowded, and frustrating school.
