What is unqiue about my school compared to other schools is that it is more diverse then other schools that I considered and it has a lot of activities to do on and around campus.

Cameron

It is underestimated.

Meriam

diverse

Elizabeth

It's completely not what I was looking for. Every where else that I applied to was a military school. God just pulled me into this school.

Binh

George Mason has one of the most diverse student bodies in the country. The University is a commuter school, but is trying to develope a more vibrant campus-life. At the moment there are almost 7000 on-campus students and the number is growing.

Sumaya

George Mason University is the right place to be for anything you want to major in. What I liked most about Mason, and the reason I choose it was because of its diversity. Mason has students from all around the world. This helps a lot when you are in class, when studying certain areas of the world, when doing school activities and community volunteering, etc. People here always share things from their heritage which enhances the learning experience! Also GMU always has guest speakers from all over the world, every day, if not every hour.

Tracy

The diversity. I came from a high school where cliques were nearly nonexistent, so I wanted to go to a university with the same "everybody loves everybody" attitude. Although during a typical walk around campus I see several different ethnic groups who speak to each other in their primary languages, classes themselves show an intermingling of all races. A Caucasian American at George Mason University is a minority. Both of the other schools I considered had the same basic population. I would have been just another face in the crowd if I had gone elsewhere.

Heather

Relative diversity of degrees offered. Ok location for commuting from where I live. Price per credit hour was reasonable in relation to other colleges that were further away.

Molly

At George Mason University students have the unique opportunity to view cultures of hundreds of different countries and ethnicities around the world without even leaving campus. Students are not only being educated inside the classroom but outside as well with cultural fairs, days and parades throughout the year. Since I am majoring in Spanish I decided that this would be the best place for me not only to learn the language but the true culture as well with the large hispanic community inside and surrounding campus. One can receive a true worldly education here.

George Mason has a well developed conflict resolution program for undergraduates. George Mason is also a big campus with lots of people but there is also lots of space. It has the unique quality of being near the city but it's isolated as a campus.

Tiera

George Mason University's diversity composition in terms of students is unmatched by the other Universities that I optionalized. I felt my ethnicity and race was present on the campus and the academic course load met my standards of a challenge. The professors at Mason, both tenured and adjunct, give a significant amount of contribution to the quality of my education. George Mason's close proximity to the metropolitan Washington, D.C. area is an attraction within itself for the representation of different cultures and the historical monuments of the Nation's capital.

Danbee

It's a communter school. We as students must deal with so much more, more different things in our lives as we continue on as students. While other's focus soley on their school, we focus on school, extracurricular, jobs, family, friends, home church, etc. Although it is difficult and hectic at first. I feel that we as students here at Mason learn something more at a earlier time. Almost as if we were in the "real world" already. Where we must quickly learn to adapt and learn to manage our time, as well as excel as students and individuals.

Ryan

Mason is one of the most culturally diverse schools in the US for a number of reasons, but primarily because it is so close to DC. The other schools I considered (I only considered in state) are not as diverse because the majority of the students they attract live locally. Also, the job opportunities for Mason students are endless because Mason is so close to the Capitol. The other schools I considered are in more rural locations and thus provide less immediate job opportunities.

Andrew

Not a lot of people speak english and parking here sucks

Shaina

I loved George Mason for its location, close to DC, its beautiful campus scenery, and its friendly environment. When I toured Mason, the beautiful landscape made the school seem peaceful and welcoming. Also, the population at Mason is very diverse both culturally and religiously, which made me feel like I would get the opportunity to meet some very different and wonderful individuals.

Nina

What is unique about Mason is that it has diverse faculty as well as studnets. There are a varierty or degrees and various hours to choose from. There are many intership programs available to Mason students because of its great location close to D.C.

Rory

Excellent faculty, average student body. I'm lonely, happy, and busy.

Chiau-yun

It had better accounting program than the other schools that are in VA

Willie

The diversity of the students is really different than any other school I considered.

Adrienne

George Mason University has so much to offer students. The main factor that I truely find amazing is the ethnic and artistic diversity. Geroge Mason has 25,000 students and among those there is so much diversity. It is so beauitful to walk around campus and be emersed in something so great and new. There are so many opputrunites of different clubs and activities for anything an indiviual may want to be involved in whether it is sports, sisterhood, religion, culture. There are clubs for everything and everyone, George Mason really gives each student a chance to expand one another.

jenny

looking at the ethnic variety among the students makes me feel like i'm looking at the entire world on a much smaller scale. many students come from different backgrounds...there's so much to learn from them!

Carina

I like the location of my school. Although it is located in the suburbs, DC is only a half hour away from campus. This location makes internships readily available.

Monica

It is a very diverse university. Compared to my other schools, George Mason University had the most variety in terms of people of different races, beliefs, and backgrounds.

Rodney

Very diverse, very involved alumni base, wonderful location (DC/NoVa) for jobs and education, newer, major ongoing expansion, very affluent student body

Owen

It's hard to like Mason right at first..but if you give it a chance you'll find your niche there.

Alissa

George Mason University is a wonderful place. If you want to go to a school where you can learn about yourself through learning about others and can freely express who you are without holding back, Mason is the place for you. Students at Mason matter. You won't be just a number here.

Tim

School needs a greek row, to get rid of all the unnessisary police, not give out so many parking tickets when there isn't even enough parking spots on campus, and let loose. Housing sucks and is expensive too.

Claire

George Mason University has been my home for the past three years. I have felt comfortable, excited, and challenged all at the same time. George Mason University is a place that students come to grow and take advantage of the millions of opportunities available to them in the world. When people come to visit our campus, the Admissions Office and the Mason Ambassadors (tour guides) tell people "If you want to go to a university with people that look like you, talk like you, and think like you, then George Mason University is not the place for you." And I agree. You will meet new people every day, and they will fascinate you. George Mason University is an exciting place to be every day of the year!

Bevan

It's an overall good school as long as you dont want to party every single night and basically drop out. Students just need to be more willing to participate in making this campus better.

Scarlet

Overall, i'm really glad I go to GMU and i've only been here for one year. If you want a school with progressive ideas, a student body with unique individuals of different backgrounds, and an area with many possibilities as far as night-life and job opportunities, then GMU is the school for you.

Gene

I LOVE THIS SCHOOL!! I have made my best friends here. people I KNOW I will keep in touch with my whole life.

Jessica

PARKING SUCKS. COUNSELING-- ok so this is one of my friends experience with counselrs at gmu...He had madatory lab experiments for one of his classes, but he also had mandatory attendance in another class. So his one teacher told him, well you have to make a decision, either dont come to my class or dont go to your experiment. So he went to his counselor for some help and her answer to him was, um i dont even know what your talking about. ive never heard of those. That was all she said, she wouldnt help longer than that. Her repley was then that she guessed that he should appeal to the dean. Ok so appealing to the dean took longer than the entire summer semester. Yeah so counseling i would give about a D. just fyi. COPS-- one word...PSYCHO. yeah they are crazy. one cop a girl i knew a ticket for her tire being on the line then came back an hour later and gave her a second cause she hadnt moved her car...SHE WAS STILL IN CLASS. She appealed it and got it taken away but thats the thing, everyone has to go through the appeal process to get ridiculously insane tickets taken away. yeah i dont know about anyone else but in my opinion thats just stupid. Mason needs to get a hold of the cops. again just an fyi for commuter students. and one more time for the commuter students...parking suuuuuuuuuuuckssssss, oh yeah and mason doesnt care that it sucks, at all.

Parking at George Mason is awful!!! You will pay $180 a year for a parking pass and still have to struggle to find parking, especially now with all of the construction going on around campus. Parking Services is also ruthless. They are extremely quick to give tickets...if they say you have 20 minutes to park in a spot...you really only have 19. BE CAREFUL!

Ariff

Men's basketball is the only big thing we have on campus compared to other sports. We do have a football team, but it's only a club team (oddly enough, it's the only other sport on campus to pull in at least 1000 fans). I'm more of a football fan and the fact that the school does not want to sponsor an NCAA sanction team is a disappointment. If you want to come to mason and don't mind a club football team, that's great. But if you are a hardcore football fan, a club team might not suit you too well.

I'm only here to get a degree and to be honest, I've had better experiences elsewhere.

Niki

we have religious differences, its not all 'kumbayah'. we are separated and have our own cliches. our professors sometimes don't try hard enough.

Carson

I think Mason is one of the best colleges to attend.

Paul

First, Conceled Carry should be allowed on campus for commuter students who are legally eligable. I was rejected twice from GMU, and only after I submitted an appeal letter to the dean of admissions explaining that I fulfilled all the requirments for GUARANTEED acceptance. That still deeply bothers me.

travis

conceal and carry holders cannot carry on school property, this make us targets both on campus and traveling to and from

Kat

GMU is mainly a commuter school and it's completly dead on weekends.

Quinn

Callie

All of the new buildings and things they're building here on campus are awesome and will be a great addition to campus life

Josh

the music and economics departments are amazing, mason academically is a very sound institution but is having a difficult time transitioning from a mostly commuter school to a "real" college
