Commuter school. Not really the smartest students.

All Commuter students, not much school spirit when it comes to sports

They all got rejected form madison, tech and uva.

That our school has so much diversity that most of the students are from different countries; the classes are a lot easier--so the students aren't as smart as say students at Tech, or JMU

The stereotype for GMU is that it is the Cinderella story school of the east coast. After placing in the Final Four, GMU got more publicity and more applications from students. Once a student comes here, they come up with the stereotypes that it is a commuter school, it has alot of people from other coutries, and that people come here if they didnt get into better schools.

George Mason is considered the default school, along with NOVA, for most students who grew up in the nothern VA area.

GMU students are prudish, uppity. GMU is boring-nothing to do. Everyone always goes home on the weekends.

People think it's really easy to get in to GMU and that maybe the students aren't as smart as though going to Virginia Tech or another popular school.

Well everyone thinks of GMU as a commuter college for local kids who couldn't get into a real college.

I am not sure or any particular stereotypes of GMU students. However, I did hear a young man say my junior of high school that George Mason was the only high school of Virginia; basically implying that everyone went there and it was not somewhere he wanted to go to school.

Everyone assumes GMU students are commuters and that there isn't a lot of student life. A lot of people think that there's nothing fun to do at Mason, but it's because they don't look for it.

Because the standards to get into the university were much lower a couple years ago, many people assume college isn't as hard for us as it is for them.

Mason students are either rich brats riding through school on their parents money, or they are hard working penny pinchers that desire a great education but can't afford to go anywhere else.

People think we are a dead campus on weekend because outsiders think we all go home.

dumb, some people say that GMU is barely a step up from a community college

Snobby, clique-orientated rich kids from Fairfax, Virginia. Many feel that a good deal of the students at George Mason University come to the school because they're not really sure what else to do - High School 2.0, you could say. GMU is also considered a mild 'upgrade' from the Community Colleges in the area, thus painting a good deal of the students in a rather half-bright light.

Stereotypes about George Mason....well, from the few that I've heard is that George Mason is a commuter school. Coming to school here from New York I was worried about that. When I got here, settled into my dorm in Presidents Park, it did not feel like a commuter school anymore. I made numerous friends right away.

They are all commuters and all have their own, separatist groups.

That people are boring. That it's diverse. That people are kind of conservative.

GMU is like highschool, but the students are older.
