I honestly love Georgian Court University. I love the nice and tight community where I know mostly everyone or are familiar with them. I also love how small the class sizes are which allows me to get more personal attention. In every class, each of my professors knows every student's name. I love how they are always available and are always willing to help students become better.

Dominick - 12/31/2019

Georgian Court University has a gorgeous campus that used to be the private estate of a 19th century rail road tycoon. It is not a very large campus, and the small class sizes make for a much more intimate student professor experience. The on staff counselors are an amazing resource that I would recommend everyone take advantage of. This is an amazing price effective choice for anyone looking for a university.

The fall 2020 acceptance rate for Georgian Court University is 74%. That means, out of _____ applications received in 2020 , _____ students were offered admission. The number of males who applied was _____ vs the number of females which was _____.

  2. What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

If I could go back in time and talk to myself when I was a high school senior I would tell myself to visit all of my choices for college before making any decisions. It pays off in the end to know what you're getting yourself into. I would also tell myself to apply for three times as many scholarships as I did. College is expensive and any free help needs to be taken.

  16. What is your overall opinion of this school?

The best thing about GCU is that it really is New Jersey's best kept secret. The campus has the best security--i can walk around (and I have done this) at 2 AM and feel completely secure--you literally have to call in your parents to the security gate. The campus is beautiful and when it snows, it looks just like a Christmas card. The professors actually know you by name and the only time you use your student ID number is when they ask for it in the cafe. I do have to be honest about what I don't like, though. When something is wrong in financial aid, you have to talk to someone at the top to get the situation resolved. They take away some of the scholarships they give you your freshman year when you become a sophomore because you are a sophomore. Financial aid, just like most colleges, is limited and need-based, which is most likely not going to change. Registrar is in one word: inept. It is pretty much the same situation as financial aid and they love to make you jump through a thousand hoops to get what you want. The process is very complicated and you have to make sure to pay attention to the fine print and the asterisks on your progress chart and major requirements.

  17. What is the stereotype of students at your school?

Georgian Court University is best known for being a women's (read: lesbian) college and and education school.

  18. What are the most popular student activities/groups?

The most popular activities on campus are WILD and SGA. Since there are no sororities or fraternities, getting involved in programs are what will make the experience fun. I'm a commuter, but I have spent time in the dorms and people do generally leave their doors open. There is always the Back Porch Party, which is the thing to go to.

  19. What are the academics like at your school?

All of my professors know my name. I'm a Communications major, so I have had the same two teachers as far as those classes go. My favorite class is Mass Media and Pop Culture. My professor gives us cool assignments and her tests are easy and she has a great rapport so all that makes for a great class. My least favorite classes were Math and Biology. I had a horrible Math professor who covered herself in chalk and who would ask the class a thousand questions to get to the answer she was looking for when we clearly did not know what she was talking about. She wasn't accommodating at all to the needs of the student either. My biology teacher played favorites and she was just boring--I spent every class (twice a week) on Myspace.

  20. What are some hot-button issues on campus?

Heather voices concerns that the plummeting economy is bringing down academic standards in the admissions office. Ashley explains how the government is conspiring with your bookstore and defends work-study as a "real job."

  21. Is the stereotype of students at your school accurate?

None of the stereotypes are accurate. This is not a lesbian school and while I, personally, do feel uncomfortable with lesbian pda just as much as I do straight pda, it's not a big deal. We don't wear uniforms, although you can definitely tell who are commuters and who are residents. The commuters generally dress better for classes, while the residents are almost always in sweats all the time. Men do come to GCU, they just usually show up around 4 for the night classes, as per the rules. They can't sleep over in the dorms but they do show up for our parties. I am a junior and I have only had one nun as a professor--ironically, she was bad.
