Is the stereotype of students at your school accurate?

Ashley

None of the stereotypes are accurate. This is not a lesbian school and while I, personally, do feel uncomfortable with lesbian pda just as much as I do straight pda, it's not a big deal. We don't wear uniforms, although you can definitely tell who are commuters and who are residents. The commuters generally dress better for classes, while the residents are almost always in sweats all the time. Men do come to GCU, they just usually show up around 4 for the night classes, as per the rules. They can't sleep over in the dorms but they do show up for our parties. I am a junior and I have only had one nun as a professor--ironically, she was bad.

We probably do have a bigger gay presence by proportion than other schools but heterosexual students are still the majority. There is very little awkwardness between the gay and straight students, probably because we live in the 21st century and just don't care about each others orietation. I don't live on campus so I can't speak to the dorm atmosphere but in class, there is a feeling of empowerment for women. Many of my classmates have told me they feel less intimidated to participate in class without the guys and there is less concern with "dressing up" for class, wearing make-up etc. C'mon, let's just admit that we do that stuff for guys, not eachother or ourselves. ;) I think education will always be our strong pull just because of the reputation and the program is very good. Education majors are required to do a double major so it's no walk in the park. I chose GCU because I liked the communications program and we seem to add new majors every semester! In the last two years, I've seen new dance, nursing and exercise science majors. At least, these weren't well publicized before.
