The best thing about GCU is that it really is New Jersey's best kept secret. The campus has the best security--i can walk around (and I have done this) at 2 AM and feel completely secure--you literally have to call in your parents to the security gate. The campus is beautiful and when it snows, it looks just like a Christmas card. The professors actually know you by name and the only time you use your student ID number is when they ask for it in the cafe. I do have to be honest about what I don't like, though. When something is wrong in financial aid, you have to talk to someone at the top to get the situation resolved. They take away some of the scholarships they give you your freshman year when you become a sophomore because you are a sophomore. Financial aid, just like most colleges, is limited and need-based, which is most likely not going to change. Registrar is in one word: inept. It is pretty much the same situation as financial aid and they love to make you jump through a thousand hoops to get what you want. The process is very complicated and you have to make sure to pay attention to the fine print and the asterisks on your progress chart and major requirements.

Whenever I tell people where I go, the automatic assumption is that I am gay or they ask me what grade I want to teach. GCU is mostly a commuter school so most of our students are from Ocean or Monmouth Counties. Sometimes it sucks cuz it can be cliquey involving high school rivalry, drama etc. but for the most part, we're a friendly, diverse and accepting buch of girls. I would say the most common complaint (that I've heard) is when the school requires you to take a course (for example our signature courses) but only offers one or two sections/times a semester so your schedule is all screwed up. If you have a job or other responsibilities, which many of us do, it's tough to work around. I feel bad for the residents on weekends cuz the activites are pretty sparse and some paces, like the bookstore, are closed on weekends. For the commuters, I think the biggest complaint would be lack of computer access. We have several "open" computer labs on campus and quite a few computers in the library but they often have classes in the labs which you can't interrupt. Also, there is no cell reception in the library so if you're trying to meet with someone or just need to spend a few hours typing a paper, doing research etc. you're "incommuncado."
