I personally love GCC. I loved all of my teachers and I actually think that its one of the best colleges in LA. The teachers and students are always active on campus and the night classes are always fun to attend. I have been here for a year and a half and everyone here is very giving. Also the food is delicious and open pretty late for a community college.

Glendale Community College is a wonderful junior college for students who plan to transfer to a great university, want to earn an Associate's Degree, or just want to learn. Major advantages are updated classrooms and technology, and approachable and helpful faculty. One disadvantage is the lack of student engagement and involvement in extracurriculars. There are many opportunities to get involved, but not many students take advantage of it.

Glendale Community College has shown me that a community college can give you the same "college experience" as a big university, minus the BIG price. The academics are amazing, the teachers care for the students in their classes and a great part of going to school here is that the class sizes are so small, every teacher knows their students and I feel I can go talk to my teachers about any questions or concerns I have. The sports here are amazing as well, everyone gets excited for the games and the spirit everyone has for the school and the teams is contagious! This school as an amazing stepping stone in my life, it has allowed me to get my footing a little before I make the jump to ASU.

I can only speak for the Department of Nursing, which is a pretty limited view of Glendale Community College overall. With that said, my teachers were always passionate and involved in their work, and they kept consistent office hours. The class culture was great as well, my classmates were motivated to learn and did not hesitate to help one another. As I was part of the weekend/evening group I felt that my half of the cohort had a more difficult time with coordinating things for department-wide parties, fundraisers etc. but I can't really blame my classmates as we all had a lot going on. I passed my NCLEX and I can definitely say that GCC helped prepare me to be a good nurse. Take that for what you will but I enjoyed my time there!

  2. What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

If I had the chance to go back in time and give myself advice on the future, I don?t know where I would be able to start. I truly have gained an immense amount of knowledge these couple of years. The first and most important advice I would give myself is to take my time in figuring out what I want as a career goal. I think the first step in the process of one?s academic awakening is realizing what his or her interests are. When I was seventeen I was so in rush to figure out what I wanted to do with my life that I didn?t understand that some things don?t have shortcuts. The second important advice I would explain to myself would be to understand that education is not a destination, but rather a journey. For most of my high school, I was impatient to graduate and move on to the next step in my life. Unfortunately, I was unaware that learning is a process and not just a point on a map. I would tell myself that experience is the ultimate learning process and there are no such things as mistakes.

Fewer classes are open now and it's just hard to choose what classes you need, for your GE, that has the convenient timing for your personal schedule. Fewer classes with more people going to community colleges because it's cheaper will lead to problems later I think.

A person who enjoys the "city life" more than a country setting should not attend GCC. The campus is full of green vistas all around. The weather in the campus can be frustrating at times especially with heat waves that torment the campuse for several weeks at a time, luckily most of the classrooms have an AC.

Although, you might say that this is college level and students should keep up with the fast paced classes offered, most of the time probably 85 {4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} of the instructors don't even manage to cover every topic in the given time so they end up skipping topics or doing a poor job on them.

  12. What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

The worst thing at GCC is other students taking their classes seriously. Because of the recent budget cuts, there are less classes available which makes it difficult to register in classes. Hence, it is frustrating when you cannot enroll in the classes you need when they are filled with other students who drop the class half way through the semester. Also, if you are partnered up with a classmate who is not serious about the class, your grade can be negatively affected.
