The Academics at Gonzaga are very good. The grading is harder than one would expect and most professors love to sit and chat. Some professors will take you out to coffee just to get to know their students. Because Gonzaga does not require professors to publish a lot of work, or provide amazing research facilities, the professors are here to develope relationships with their students. Overall, if you are in the humanities classes are discussion based, while if you are in the sciences classes are lecture based. Most classes are very small, around 20-30 people and have very good one-on-one attention. One important thing to know is that sometimes the Core requirements are a pain and require too much religion. Sometimes it is hard to get into certain Core classes because of the population growth. For instance I cannot get into any science classes because most enry level science classes are blocked for non-majors. This limits the "humanistic" education that Gonzaga boasts so highly about.
Like I said above, the professors do know your name and face, and by the end of the semester usually more. My favorite class is a Criminal Justice course taught by a local Superior Court Judge. We get to go watch court proceedings and learn about them first-hand in the courtroom setting. Studying at Gonzaga is an everyday thing if you want to do well, so you will spend a decent amount of time studying. Class participation is common for the most part, with the exception of some 100 intro courses. The students here can be very competitive. The education you receive at Gonzaga helps you get a good job, but its main focus is on making the student a well-rounded, intellectual individual that has learned not only through the classes and books, but through the experience and community that Gonzaga offers as well.
I think that classes here are hard, but they are worth it. For the most part I have liked all of my professors and have enjoyed being in their classes. There is a lot of work and homework and for some people it becomes too much to handle. But I really think that if you can make it through this school with a decent grade it shows a lot about your work ethic and intelligence. It shouldn't be hard to get a job after you come out of GU
