The best thing about Gonzaga is the school pride. Everyone is so enthusiastic about the school. The alumni are also really active. They have a program called GAMP (Gonzaga Alumni Mentoring Program) where you can be paired up with a career person from any field desirable. Plus basketball season is crazy!
One thing that I know is happening at Gonzaqga that I wish I wasn't seeing is that we are expanding too much for this city and for our Gonzaga community. It's starting to get harder to get into classes, find housing, and afford to go here. I heard one comment that Gonzaga is slowly becoming the size of a state school with the price of a private school. The small size of Gonzaga is what I was drawn to at Gonzaga.
The best thing about Gonzaga is the feeling of community. Unlike some big public schools, teachers actually know your name, and you recognize the people you run into on campus. It is the perfect size. Meeting new people all the time is commonplace, thus it is not too small.
The school overall is too large for it's own physical resources, but too small to develope into a research university. There are not enough classes, but not enough buildings or professors to expand. The campus lacks many resources that bigger university have, such as research facilities. At Gonzaga, the campus is crowded. People are friendly, especially if you drink with them. Everyone open's doors for each other, and knows each other's business. The student union is really fun to hang out in, when it is open..... Overall the campus attracts the same kind of people, mostly from California and majoring in business. Business is the most popular, and the most funded program at the University. If you are a business major you will have the time of your life at Gonzaga.
My favorite characteristic of Gonzaga is the size. I am from a really small town and I didn't really want to attend a university where I was just a number. At Gonzaga, you are not a number; the professor's know your name and face whether in the classroom or on campus. Getting the one-on-one time with a professor when you need it has really helped my academic career. At the same time, I didn't want to attend a university where it was so small that everyone knows everyone, and once again Gonzaga is nice for this. You can meet someone new every day, but still not feel like you are just another student on a campus.
As of right now I really like Gonzaga, the size and the classes are for the most part great. The only thing that I really don't like right now is that they are in the process of expanding the campus and in turn bringing in more and more students every year, which will eventually upset the professor to student ratio and take away some of the community feel I think. If the school becomes to large, it will loose most of the reasons that I actually came here, which was that it was small enough that you could really get help when you needed it and really get to know your teachers and fellow students. Also Spokane is a lot more ghetto than you would think lol which I know sounds stupid, but you have to be careful not to go out walking by yourself or at night which may seem obvious, but just this year we had a serial rapist around campus and someone get shot at the Safeway around the corner.
