I feel content with my way of life at Goshen College. I didn't think I would be attending this college at first because it's so close to home. I was actually supposed to attend Valparaiso University, but due to some financial issues, Goshen College was able to welcome me in. My academic advisor makes me excited for my Major, and in general there is so many possibilities academically. I like knowing I am safe on campus and can join a lot of activities without fearing judgment.

Ironically, it isn't really FULL of Mennonites. I'm not going to lie to you, there are definitely some, but not as you might be thinking, packed with them. The student body is well diverse, and with varying intellectual inputs in various areas. I tend to be the student that just goes with the ebb and flow of the whole atmosphere, as I found myself to fit into the span of things. As my first year is starting to progress into it's later stages, I notice that it's slowly starting to challenge me as I thought it would right off of the bat. Overall, if you like a diversity of cultures, opportunities, and people-- added in with a great learning environment with tons of caring professors, GC might be a good fit for you.

Yuliya

It is a diverse and respectful environment. There is a lot of inclusion and discovery of other cultures.

A safe place to express yourself in many different ways and be who you are unashamedly while pursuing your academic goals and aspirations. The staff is friendly, involved, and cares about your wellbeing. Everyone is genuinely happy that you’re there.

  2. What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

I would say that it's about finding what you love and going with it. Find the atmosphere in which you would be most comfortable for a college campus and you may be in the right place. As to the experience, I recommend choosing your major based on the classes you would like to take. It is good on your resume just to have a degree; it is not necessarily pertinant what it is in as long as you can show you followed through the four years to complete what you set out to do. Another word of advice is not to spend all of your time in your room studying. Yes, it is important; turn in all your work on time and make sure to have plenty of time to complete it, but do not isolate yourself. From college, you are going to remember the times you spent growing closer to your friends and having times of bonding.

The Goshen student body sums up to about 1000 total kids. At times this is pretty frustrating. Knowing almost everyone gets old pretty quick if you don't feel like you're connecting well. The city is also a issue. Small town cops are awfully fussy over the littlest things and it's easy to rack up fees from both the college and police.
