What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

Take your time deciding where to go, because when you get there, you only have a short time to decide on a course of study. Know where you want to go before setting out on the journey. My parents encouraged me to go where I really wanted, regardless of cost or debt. I went with the cheaper institution and because of my uncertainty, ended up with a degree releated but still un-helpfull in my desired career path.

Honestly, there is no right or wrong way. There are uninformed ways to go about choosing a college, but no wrong way. We are all driven by something, and if our choices do not reflect that driving force, then there is no reason to try to choose. My defining factor was my faith, and God truely brought me to the right place. Through prayer and understanding I can see I made the right choice. I looked at the costs, the foundations, and the core values of the schools. Then I visited to see if they were the real deal. I can say that everything about this college I have chosen is 100{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} real and there are no masks. Look for a college that has the same values you do, and go from there.

Find out what activities are available on campus. Also financing is a good place to start, college gets expensive. Find out information about the surrounding towns, local businesses and so on. Make sure there are jobs available on campus. Plan a visit and see how the college reacts to you.

The first thing I would say is: Be smart about your finances. In my high school they told us that we should just go to whatever college we want because money should not be a reason not to go. I mean, you can always get loans, right? While that is true, THEY are not the ones that have to pay the loans back for a good part of their life after they get a job. Try to get scholarships, finnancial aid, grants, etc. Do whatever you can (even though it may be a pain) to get money for college, and choose your college wisely.

Visit as many schools as you possibly can. I knew I had chosen the right college because I visited my older brother's school's as well as at least 6 other schools before making a decision. Also, be as active as possible in learning the rules and traditions of the campus. Some people may be surprised at some of the rules enforced at the college I attend, but since I knew about them, I came to terms with them before I set foot on campus as an enrolled student.

When searching for a college it is best to think of how much you will be able to handle people and what major you are looking for. Throw out the unnecissary colleges that dont have your major or that are too big/ too small for your taste. Then, visit four of your favorites, stay the night with someone on campus, and get a feel for it. Make sure to keep in mind how you could deal with the finances at the schools. Both parents and prospective students should be on the tours and in meetings, even if its not cool. (Parents can pick up on signals faster than most students.) Meet one on one with the professors in your feild of study, and maybe even attend a class. Dont wait until the last minute to start looking for colleges, the best time to browse is when you are a sophamore in high school, you dont have pressure to decide and you can just chill. These are all things I wish I had known, but somehow I ended up at the right place! I love my college and I wouldn't make any other choice.
