Before I came to this school, I wish I had known about the guaranteed admission program that is offered. By signing a contract with both the community college and the college you would like to transfer to, you are guaranteed admission to the school you are transferring to as long as you meet all the requirements. This program should be started as soon as you begin classes at the community college. This program takes much of the stress out of the transferring process.
I wish I had known about the out of state fee. I could've easily avoided this fee by attending my senior high school year at California. My aunt lives in San Diego and offered me to stay there. I refused so that I could be with friends at my Hawaii school. I am a student athlete and I needed to attend Grossmont College. The community colleges in Hawaii do not have football programs only at the University and I needed to work on my eligibility for a D1 school.
I wish I'd known how incredibly important it is to actually schedule counseling appointments. It's one of the first things you're told to do... but when I first started taking college courses I thought I already knew exactly what to do, how to do it, when to do it. Naturally, I had no idea what I was doing and took a lot of courses I didn't need to. I really wish I'd done that first.
I wish I would have known the power of keeping up on my algebra principles. There are so many classes that require math pre-requesites and if you let your math skills slide, re-entry is tough. Luckily, I did not do too poorly on the entrance exams, but if you are taking a major that requires a lot of math, it sure makes life easier when you can test out of 3 or 4 basic classes.
That college is not as scary as it seems, or the way high school counselors made it out to be. It is challenging and broaden your views, but Grossmont is a school that is very accomodating and works with you to be the best you can be.
What i wish i had know about grossmont college was how to balance sports and school at the same time. Also when tryouts were for each sport. In addition i wish i had known the deadlines for the scholarship program ahead of time.
I wish I had known that I wouldn't be able to take classes that were necessary for my major, and instead I had to focus on doing all of my general education requirements within the two years.
how great a some of the techers where and fair of un fair some are
I wish I would have known what I wanted career wise.
