What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?

Being a native of North Carolina, I was accustomed to the humid sub-tropical climate. It rained, but not enough for you to need rain boots, a rain jacket, a bubble-brella, & a boat to get to class! Virginia is very prone to have severe rain and snow storms, and considering the fact that I am conveniently placed on a peninsula... the wind pull is about 10-15 mph stronger. I also wish I would have been familiar with the leadership legacy & standard of excellence everyone is held to. Hampton is the nativity & epitome of leaders in their community.

I wish I had known how my SAT scores could bring in more financial aid.

briana

Before I came to Hampton wish I would of know about how traditional the campus was.

Daniel

I wish I knew how small of a school Hampton was and i wish i knew how boring the town was. If I had known these two things, I could have better prepared myself for the social life here.

shamara

Campus cafeteria and how it was highschool style.....not much varation. My brother went here 12 years ago and its still the same.

Tyler

Honestly, I wish I had known how to properly dress and I mean really dress. Whether is be business, casual, etc. fashion is sort of a big thing at Hampton. Also, I wish I had known about the things that go on at the school. For instance, we have what we call 12-2 almost every friday, and when you visit it seems cool and fun but, you don't realize that people still have classes during these times and academics come first. Always know education comes first!

amber

Everything that I knew before I attended Hampton was just enough information, and I am glad that i learned certain rules and regulations when I first stepped onto campus.

Chris

I wish i would have known how much work and effort is demanded to succeed. Also, I am very dissapointed with the social life at the school.

That the financial aid office staff aren't very helpful.

Kevin

I wished I knew that we would not be able to take food out of the cafeteria. I also wish that I was able to have my own refrigerator and microwave.

Alia

Before attending HU, I wish I would've known that it isn't easy to get around. Whenever I need to buy necessities, I spend large amounts of money for cabs to go to Walmart, or other stores. Tuition is very expensive, so my parents can't afford a car. The bus schedule in the area is very conflicting with my schedule, which makes it difficult for me to travel cheaply.

Rhoda

nothing because, knowing what i know now was an experience that i was happy to learn when i came here. but maybe tuition cost and other financial costs.

Olivia

I wish that I had known about extra fees that students have to pay for insignificant things on campus, about the terrible cafeteria and that it is only open for a short period of time during the day. I also wish I had known that Hampton University is a very strict institution, there are many rules here that are unnecessary and I feel like Hampton treats its' incoming freshmen like immature children; college is supposed to be the time when students learn how to be on their own and Hampton gives us a handicap.

Ta'lor

I wish I would have visit the campus before I applied and been able to talk with many continuing students.

Danielle

Before I came here, I wish I had learned that there is a whole "Hampton run around" as they like to call it. This is when a person goes from office to office trying to figure out what office to go to in order to take care of whatever business they need to take care of. I think that this process is very ridiculous. If the faculty actually knows where all these odifferent offices are and what business they handle, I don't know why they can't just tell us up front.

Dereck

That the weather changes alot and also that you will get the run around when it comes to getting any administrative work done so you can stay in school

Taryn

I wish i would have known to look out for the locals.

Ciera

i wish i would have known about the limited amount of dorm space we have and the codition in which they are in; that condition being not the best.

Bianca

Before attending Hampton University, I wish I would have been more aware of the social environment. Just because you go to an Historically Black University does not mean it lacks diversity in people. Some students are really into fashion and act like they are in a fashion show everyday that they go to class. Also, I wish I was a aware of how clique-ish some of the students are--for instance in the cafeteria there are sections designated to the atheletes and the band members.

Jasmine

More about other schools.

LaNeisha

I wish I would have known about all the extra opportunities your afforded when you become apart of Hampton's honors college. I would have applied at the start of my freshman year because its now harder to transfer over due to the extra requirements of third year student.

Gabrielle

I wish I had known how strict Hampton was. I also wish I had known the extent to which they care about their students- it does not extend far. I truly feel like I made a mistake in attending Hampton because they are not as invested in their students' well-being as they claim to be.

Nadiath

The cost of tuition

candice

I feel like I was prepared for the school.

Fallon

Before coming to my school I wish I would have known to take college classes so that I would not be at risk of being behind in my course work. The school is very focused on having the students graduate in 4 years but taking classes before I would not have been so stressed with the work load.

Tanya

Nothing I love my school and College is about gaining new experiences and learning new things.

Keah

I wish I would have known that I would need a lot of money before coming to school. My biggest problems are financial, not academic.

Rajae

I wish someone would have showed me how to balance school work with social life because on my campus theres so much going on that you could get easily unfocused. Partying is not what I came to college for and its easy to get caught up with all of the activities. I also wish I would have planned my financial aid beacuse even with a scholarship this school is private and very pricey. Lastly I didn't know we had so many rules including a curfew freshman year!!!
