Overall I would say Harris-Stowe State University is an average school. The housing is what makes the school worth attending in all honesty. From my experience at Harris-Stowe State University they're really big on campus involvement they push all their students to get out and get involved which I love. They take the safety of their students very serious and hold their students accountable for every action that goes against what Harris- Stowe State University stand for. From an academic stand point I don't feel like they are very strong when it comes to academics. The curriculum is very mediocre I don't see the drive or the passion in the teachers to want to do the best they can as a teacher to see the students at Harris-Stowe State University succeed. All in all, Harris- Stowe State University has its pros and cons but for a student like me who seek professors that take my education as serious as I do I would say Harris-Stowe State University does not provide that

Harris-Stowe is a beacon of educational light for many students, who are first time and first generational learners. It's affordability enhances the chances of entry, and the staffs commitment to ensuring academic success are above par. As only one of two HBCUs in the State of Missouri, it's a source of pride in the African-American community. It has grown leaps and bounds continuously over the last two decades and is continuing. It has an extremely bright future as a well rounded and respected center of learning.

Harris Stowe State University is one of the greatest HBCU's of all. The professors and staff are amazing and they really care for our success. The food is not that great but there are days when its bomb. Online classes are my thing, and I love them. Teachers are always either a phone call away or in their office, on standby.

I was very excited to attend Harris-Stowe but I feel like it let me down on numerous occasions and that is very disappointing. The school is very disorganized, not very clean, and it is a negative atmosphere. The students are wild and reckless, and can basically get away with what ever they want to do. One thing I will say is that the professors are very kind and helpful. This school is not for me.

    I would tell the parents that they should let their child chose a school. All parents have a place in mind, where they believe their child could benefit from the most or would be more suitable, whether it be the place, amount of people, or type of people, but it has to be the childs choice. For the student, I know we like the party schools or the one where all our friends are going, but you should pick a place where you can see yourself staying all 4 years. Some where, where you can see yourself enjoying campus life and the surrounding area of the school. You will make friends and enjoy yourself if you put yourself out there. Spread your wings and fly and you will learn to be strong, independent and determined to accomplish all your goals. You will find that the responsibilties that you have as an adult are hard, but worth going through because it makes you a better person and a stronger graduate.

    Harris-Stowe State University is best known as a "teacher's school". Harris-Stowe started off being a college for people who planned on being teachers, and even now, a lot of our students are planning on being teachers.

  4. What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

    The worst thing about my school is the dorms' rules! We cannot have vistors other than our parents, grandparents, and/or legal guardians. If we do have visitors we have to stay down in the lobby area. Our windows in our room do not open...which does not make any sense. Also the dorms are really boring most of the times. There is nothing to do on campus forreal.

    I wish that there where more school activity for us to get involve with and that they had more of a variety of scholarship available for us.

    My campus is small and thats a good thing. This way we have small classes and are able to have more open discussing. The teachers are always avaible when you need them.

  10. What kind of person should not attend this school?

    The kind of person who is only coming because their friends or here or looking to be on a sports team other than, soccer, basketball or baseball. You shouldn't attend if you are not use to an urban background and city life. My school is very open and not scared to show you the good and the bad. Don't come if you want visitors in your dorm or prison like rules in the dorm. Freedom is not a word we use to describe the dorm. Small classes, quite classes are not here!

  11. What's the most frustrating thing about your school?

    Well the most frustrating thing that I had a problem with were the tuition. I had a hard time getting in school. I had to pay a large amount of money up front before I could get cleared to move in my dorm and start classes. It was a struggle for my mom to come up with the money. My mom is a widow. My dad passed away severals years ago. My mom is so determined to get me through college. It is her goal to see me gratuate from college. I want to make her proud of me.

All students must apply yearly for financial aid. This process starts with the FAFSA. Though financial aid deadlines vary by school, it is a good idea to apply as soon as possible. For the upcoming school year, you can apply as early as October 1 for the FAFSA. Additional school aid will be dependent on the FAFSA results.
