Hartnell College Top Questions

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

Manuel

One of the major things I would advise me to do is that to ask questions and ask for help. Hartnell offers many programs to help students and its staff is very polite so do not be shy. In addition, you will have to be more open and be able to work in-group projects and not feel alienated.

You might not be sure about what you want to do with your life. That's okay. A lot of people don't know what to do or where to go after high school. Find something you're passionate about. Don't just decide to major in something that you think will make you a lot of money. It's also okay to switch over to another major. As long as you find something that interests you and makes you feel like it's something you want to spend your life doing then go for it.

The advice I woud give myself would be, take smmer classes every summer until you graduate. Become a Residential Advisor again and keep the job because it helps with tution and gives time for your academics. Do something crazy and out of the norm, like surfing or something.

My advice to my high school senior self is about my future goals. The advice I would give to myself when I was a high school senior is to actively pursue going to Hartnell College because it is the most affordable and reasonable way as a person of lower-middle class. I would tell myself that community colleges are not a place for people who did not get accepted into the university of choice or afford it but an alternative route. I would also advice myself to take the classes required for the Associate's Degree in Business Administration while applying for the nursing program. I will tell myself that I applied for the Nursing Program twice and that wasted 2 years of my life since I was ignored. I will add that it is the sole reason why it took me 5 years before I transferred to San Jose State University. If I took the classes in Business Administration while applying for Nursing Program, I would have been done on my 3rd year. Overall, the point of going back in time for me is to correct the wrong things I have done and wasting time is one of them.

First of all I would remind myself that high school is the best time in your life. They are the best years that make you who you are going to be in the future. I would tell myself to enjoy every single year of it and to not take school for granted. To take care of yourself because high school is all about making choices, high school makes you who you are going to be in the future: whether you are going to be a mom, a student, or an employee. Most of us think that high school is not that important, but it is, your high school diploma and your GPA are what count the most. If I had only known that high school was not that hard, and that I only had to study to pass my classes with good grade, I would have done it, but I was too lazy back then. High school is not just about fooling around, or just relaxing back. It is a step towards your future, and right then when you finish high school is where you life starts and what you will make of it.

If I could go back and talk to myself in senior year, I would tell myself what I know now. I would say to apply as much scholarships as possible and saves lots of money for tuition. Also to study really hard so that I can get in a good 4 year college and decide what kind of career I would want to so I can have great success in life. Last I would say don't let others put you down toward your path to success and if their are not there for you, then don't give up. Believe in yourself and you can go anywhere you put your mind to it.

The advice that I wish I had when I was in high school is that studying thoroughly is your best asset. Cramming before a test can get you through it, but you'll never remember the information for the final. A little studying each day works better than cram sessions. I also wish I had learned to keep friends who would understand my determination, instead of calling me a nerd or a geek. The person who always be there for myself is me, and only I can give me the life I want. A lot of hard work and determination will always be there when friends leave you to study on your own. I wish I had known that then.

First off I would tell myself that I am on the right path. I would tell myself to continue doing what I have been doing. I would advise myself to meet with a college counselor to discuss my educational plans. I would make sure to find out more about the whole process of going from high school to a community college and then on to a university. I would remind myself that knowledge opens more doors then sitting back and letting things happen. I would also tell myself to enjoy the journey and not "think" too much, sometimes it could stress you out.

Danielle

I would have to tell myself to relax. I would say to myself that as long as I apply myself as I always have, I will me make it through. Do not stress yourself out: You will do fine. If you do feel stressed, talk to the staff and instructors to see it they can help you. Make friends who are just as applied as you because not eveyone is there because they want to learn. Also, do not fill you class schedule with too many course: Too many will be a headache. Always remember: Just breathe.
