One of the biggest challenges in adjusting to college life for me was simply learning to relax around the new people i found myself surrounded by. It is difficult to prepare yourself ahead of time for something which you have not yet experienced, but it would have been helpful for me to enter with a slightly more open mind. it is natural to be apprehensive at the start of a new experience, but if i could go back in time I would tell myself "Calm down. take a breath. Everyone is in the same boat, so relax."
everyone knows everything about everyone else.
That Upstate NY winters were brutal. The brochures of the school never showed any pictures of what winter was like. Also that the Economics department did not require any advanced mathematics, this makes economics more difficult to learn. Also that the Economics department practiced weeding out of it's students so that if you really wanted to learn economics, you had to be really really good at it and be a top student. If you want to do economics, make your you double major in math and econ. or major in math and minor in econ or vice versa.
What I know now about it.
That the winters here are really cold.
That 8 semesters is really not a long time. To enjoy every moment. To shut the book and go outside and listen to the trees.
I wish I had been more sure of my major and I wish I had known more about the socioeconomic backgrounds of the average student at the school.
Many professors are not tenured and do not stay for more than a few semesters.
How cold it was.
how hypocritical and unresponsive the administration is.
