What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

Catherine

Visit the campus, stay over night in the dorms if you can. You will be living on campus or in the area for the next four years of your life. Make sure you not only like the academics, but the people, the location, and the campus itself. If you?re not happy there, you will not be as successful in your academic career. Ask lots of questions, if you are looking at private colleges, make sure to ask the fin aid department how they help students with any increases in tuition over the years you are there. Make sure there is a strong endowment, if the college is financially week that should be a red flag. Ask how much the average debt is after grad. Overall just make sure you know what you are getting yourself into. Have fun, but don't get carried away with parting, your paying good money for your education, so don't just drink it away. Just like high school, your college years will go fast so enjoy them.

Definitely visit the campus and although you may not know what to ask, try to think of every aspect of college life down to what the weekends are like. Make sure it feels like the right place for you and ask yourself if you'll be missing out on anything huge.

I would give the advice that you should visit all the schools that you are interested in and make sure its right where you want to be. There is no worse feeling than being somewhere you dont want to be. Make sure they offer more than one thing that you are interested in, because you may change your mind about what you initailly came to the school for. Also, make sure you learn about the clubs around the campus that you can get invoved with and would enjoy. The most important thing to do, would be to get to know your roommate before you get to school, and make sure you honestly think its going to work out. The hardest part about being away from home is having to live with someone you don't know, and potentially don't like. The easiest way to make the most out of the college experience is getting invovled. Meet new friends and get invovled in clubs or events with them. College is tons fun, and the friends you meet there are ones that will be with you forever. You've never had a best friend until you've een to college.

Being a senior in high school is such an exciting and scary time. For the first time you are in charge of what you will do next with your life and choosing a school that fits what and who you are is very important. No university is the same and not every university will match your needs or personality. The first thing on your check list should be "What do I want to Major in?". From here there will be two types of students. The students that know exactly what they want to major in and the students that have no idea. To those who have an idea of what they want to do, use that as your spring board. Run a search online and find schools that have acredited programs in your area of interest. For those who have no idea I believe that the best option is a liberal arts school. Because it allows you to sample from many different areas so you can find your true passion. Once you have a few schools picked out visit the campuses. Talk to students, take a tour and this will tell you if the school is right for you.

College is the perfect oppurtunity to expand your mind and focus on a real life objective. When looking for the right college, you should always take everything into account such as the campus, students, classes offered, class size, etc. I strongly beleive that if you get a good feeling just by stepping foot on campus, then it might be the right one for you. When making the most of college, you should try taking classes that you're scared of. That way, you can figure out your strengths and weaknesses. This way, you can construct a path towards your major. One of the most important things I've ever learned after going to college for one year is that you should never doubt your own abilities; just find out how far they can take you.
