Houghton College Top Questions

I wish I had known what my work load was going to look like and what types of classes i had in store for me.

I wish I had been aware that chapel was a requirement even though I am a non-traditional, older student who already attended a Christian college and in turn, four years of chapel.

I had no expectations.

This school is academically tough, but if you are dedicated to your work you will make it through. However, this often means that you have to spend a good deal more time on homework than you did in highschool. The teachers here are always willing to help you outside of class hours. Some students even take on teachers as mentors. You are not just a number at this school. Everyone knows who you are, which makes Houghton a close community.

Before coming to Houghton, I wish I had known more information about the fields I planned to study: intercultural studies, sociology, and linguistics. Had I been better informed about each of these I would have been better equipped to seek out opportunities related to my major earlier on during my time of study.

I wish I had known not to bring so much junk with me to the dorm, most of it's unneccesary. I also wish I'd known how easy it would be to make friends, it would have saved me a lot of stress.

That it was going to be better than I imagined it to be. I also wish I knew that the food was not going to be that great but now we have a new catering service.

I felt prepared and can't pin anything to what i feel that I missed before I came to Houghton College.

I wish I had known how to manage all of my time well between work, school, and social life. Sometimes it feels like there is so much to get done on campus and it's difficult to figure out which deserves the most immediate attention. I wish I had a magical calendar that would organize my events so that I can just look at it and know exactly what to do next.

Not sure, Houghton did a very good job of letting me know what to expect.

That there were more interesting minors to take than the one I picked (intercultural studies).
