Indiana University-Bloomington Top Questions

Tell us about the sports scene on campus.

Sports are very big at IU. Most of the students that attend school here are very big Hoosier athletic fans, especially when it comes to men's basketball. Indiana University also has an extremely talented swimming and diving program, as well as soccer, women's volleyball, and cheerleading, with our all-girl cheerleading squad winning the national championship title this year! All of the athletes here are very talented, and the student body is very supportive of the athletic program. Even if you aren't an official athlete of the university, there are still a lot of recreational and inter-mural sports teams that you can join as well!

Sports are huge! Of course, as a Big Ten school, IU has Division I athletics, which means game days, campus shuts down. It doesn't literally shut down, but for the most part, students are at the game. From your first day as a student at IU, you know the cheers (we even have an event to teach freshman our traditional cheers). It's not difficult to find someone on your floor who is going to the game, and it isn't unusual for monday's class to begin with a discussion of the weekend's big game. For those of you who aren't big into athletics, don't worry. Not all students paint their faces cream and crimson before the games!
