This is a very unique campus in that it integrates faith in learning. Students are able to use their knowledge as well as their religious background and apply it to their studies. Professors place a great deal of emphasis on integrating faith and learning and challenge students to think in different ways.

The exploratory program is unique to Ithaca College. The exploratory program is for undeclared students and it helps them pick their major by allowing them to explore the colleges vast academic options within the first two years. You are allowed to pick your classes before most other students on campus and are constantly guided and advised to facilitate your transition and speed up the decision making process.

Christina

Ithaca College has amazing faculty and staff that are willing to go above and beyond to help you. The college also has many clubs and community service projects that you can become apart of right away to make friends as soon as possible.

Becky

Ithaca College is in a town where economic sustanibility is a key point of interest: when you walk around campus you are asked to sort your trash, 2 recycling bins are provided for every room, and the concept of compost is familiar to every student. Downtown Ithaca is very similar, and it's a really unique aspect of the Ithaca culture.

Michael

Ithaca features a great collaboration of almost all of its schools. I'm in the park school and work on films where music students write the scores, theatre students act, and many other students play various other roles where they put their majors to use

Max

Ithaca college is unique in many ways. It is surrounded by both beautiful scenery ("Ithaca is Gorges") and a busy and quite large town. The town hosts many festivals such as the Apple Fest, Chili Fest, Ithaca Fest and Grassroots Music Fest which are all very popular for students to attend. The culture at IC is a balanced combination of both sporty and liberal, which provides a comfortable atmosphere for most types of students. Finally, IC is the perfect size: not so small that you never meet new people, and not so large that you get lost in the crowds.

Lauren

It has a fantastic communications school and a solid honors program.

Giuseppina

Maybe it's the buzz from Cornell and Ithaca College. You feel it everywhere. You hear it in our theaters, our festivals. You see it downtown at the Ithaca Commons, where PhDs crosspaths with street musicians and families. You can't put your finger on it, but there's something special going on. The bumper stickers say "Ithaca is Gorges," but it's more than that. Ithaca is beautiful, smart and always unexpected. It's intense and laid-back. Ithaca is Ithaca. There's a vibe here unlike anywhere else . And experiencing it is the only way to discover it.

Ithaca is "gorges"; the rumors are true! Ithaca College is located in a beautiful setting, consisting of several gorges, that makes the long winters much more tolerable. The community is very environmentally conscious and is the place to be for anyone interested in healthy living. The college, founded as a music conservatory, is known for its music department and has one of the best music education programs in the country. The Park School of Communications is also a popular attraction with the Ithacan, the school's newspaper, ranking as one of the top in the nation.

Christopher

I considered many schools, but what struck me most when I visited the Ithaca campus was the many changes they were in the process of making to insure that the school was as environmentally conscious. Along with recycling everything that could possibly be recycled--they recycle rain water by collecting the water in specially planted crops on the roof of a building. That rain water is used to flush the toilets within the building! That is one of the many ways the school tries to be environmentally sound.

Gabriella

Ithaca College has one of the most earth-friendly campuses in the nation. All the disposable dishware and napkins are recycled and compostable, the new buildings on campus are designed to be as "green" as possible. There are also many opportunities to become involved with eco-movements around the city (which is also very much committed to being earth-friendly), through the college. Something else that is great is IC's sister campus in London, England. You can study abroad there and there's no hassling with transfering credits.

Michelle

I chose to attend Ithaca College because the photography program at this school is unique. I didn't want to get a BFA and take a lot of art classes, instaed i was interested in photography that is used in magazines and newspapers. Ithaca College ofeers two photography degree programs, one that centers around art (BFA) and another which focuses on the technical side and allows more time for electives (BS).

The location in Ithaca, NY seems kind of rural at first but in the summer and warmer months it is one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen. There are almost a dozen different parks you can go to. All of them have beautiful waterfalls and trails. There is also the lake and plenty of local shopping areas, such as collegetown, the commons, and the farmers market.

IC is an awful school. The tuition is far too high, and for what? The grass athletic fields, the fountains that are only turned on when alumnae are sure to be on campus? There are no turf fields for athletes. The turf field promised to us as incoming freshmen has yet to be started. The school claims to be eco-friendly, yet I constantly see maintenance staff watering the GRASS, and the SIDEWALKS - yes, the sidewalks (to clean them?) There are no longer paper towels in the residence halls. Instead it is up to you to wash that hand towel that you have been using for 2 weeks and wiping swine flu germs all over. Parking on campus is AWFUL. People who live off campus do not purchase parking permits (which cost almost 200 dollars for anyone who is not a staff member), park in the underclassmen parking lots, forcing underclassmen to park in the staff parking lots, leading to a 20 dollar ticket from good old Public Safety. Public Safety looks to ticket violators parked in the staff parking lots, which is usually students who have spent 30 minutes trying to find a parking space in the correct lot for their permit, but have been unsuccessful. Public Safety does not ticket violators in the upperclassmen lots who do not have permits. The school is extremely small believe it or not, and everyone knows everyone else's business. Students are living in lounges due to a lack of housing on campus because the school decided to accept more students than it could hold. Upperclassmen were forced to live in underclassmen housing in order to ensure that all dorms were filled to their max. Once you have been accepted to IC, you think that you are going to be attending a great school. WRONG. Don't get me wrong, some people are actually intelligent, but quite a few are not - like a girl I knew who LOVED George Bush, did not know that he was a Republican nor how a presidential election worked, nor what a liberal, conservative, Democrat, or Republican was, but loved him because he didn't tax her daddy's 600,000 dollar salary. These are only a few reasons why Ithaca College is awful. DO NOT COME TO IC. I wish I could have transferred, but no GOOD private schools would accept my credits because of the way in which my majors are set up.

Kevin

The professors are always available and eager to asist their students.

Cassandra

The environment is very warm and people seemed not to be as "clique-y" as they were in other schools and classes are generally very small (also, a specific writing major was a huge draw for IC)

Annie

My school is unique because it allows people to really do what they want. There is not a specific right answer for everyone, and Ithaca allows you to try new things and be yourself. It is not big on fitting in, it is more important to be yourself and to find yourself. Ithaca gives you a lot of opportunities to do that.

Michael

the overall enviroment is apealing and relaxing and even though there is alot of work to do you can always find time to do what is enjoyable

Daniel

Ithaca College is located in Ithaca, NY which is in the same town as Cornell University. It is a small/medium sized school with a great college town. Plenty to do every day of the week and great people to meet and have fun with. Close to Syracuse and Binghamton.

Leighann

Ithaca is very environmentally friendly and sustainable. This campus really instills sustainable practices and values onto its students. Also, the small setting allows for a more intimate learning experience and the availability of the professors makes it more possible for success. Its a very liberal school and especially with the 2009 election, there was a large sense of community.

Shannon

Dorms - decent Profs - Great Classes - Great Campus - Beautiful Town - Awesome Students - Wonderful, Smart, and Good Looking ;-)

Logan

An alum (and transfer student) talks about her experience at Ithaca, the pros and cons of the college.

Mike

Ithaca sucks, if you get a chance to go somewhere else I would advise you to do so. You will be disappointed if you don't, I know I was.

Jill

I love IC!

Dan

Ithaca is a great balance of work and play, beauty and brains and is for me the perfect school. The housing is average, but very liveable and the staff is nice. Ipso Facto...Ithaca is fucking dope.

Greg

Tuition sucks... but it was the best four years... I wouldn't change anything. I've met more people and made more friends than I've ever imagined. My education and professors have helped me land a variety of interviews and a great job.

Ryan

I transfered from this school because I felt I did not meet my expectations in many ways. It was not diverse and the programs were not as strong as I had hoped. I couldn't take all the classes I wanted to, and couldn't control my major. I wanted to get something else out of college and there were too many barriers in my way. I felt that if I am paying 40,000 a year, I should be able to get out of college what I really wanted.

Sam

ALOT of students at Ithaca smoke weed. Almost all of these students maintain way above a 3.0 GPA. The potheads at Ithaca College are not the hippies with dirty hair (although those do exist), they're more likely the guy sitting next to you in class with the pink polo who is President of the student body. Ithaca students LOVE to party, but they also love their futures, and very few students would ever allow partying to get in the way of them. Which is why I love Ithaca so much, it truly is the best of both worlds.

Jennifer

IC is great, but be warned, it not a school in the business of holding the hands of its students through life. As the one of the Deans will tell you at orientation: "This is the beginning of you not getting everything that you want", IC is about preparing its students to successfully live and prosper in the real world. It is a place where a person can earn a great education and be afforded innumerable opportunities, but it is not a place where those opportunities will just be handed out to anyone. I spent the best four years of my life there and wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone.

Heather

Ithaca is fun. I recommend living in first year housing and exploring all your options before going in as one major. If i hadn't come in as a bio major, i know that i would have a different major and probably minor in bio.

Reese

Ithaca is amazing! It was my number one choice going in and it has done nothing to disappoint me.

Ashley

The rooms are really hot! Get a single.

I love Ithaca. I love the campus and the view of the lake. Although you make friends within your own social group there is always the ability to branch out and make new friends. Every day has the ability to be great and that is helped with an awesome campus and awesome professors that care much more about the students than anything else they are doing.

John

The school is like 92{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} white upper middle class kids. There is very little diversity in terms of the people that go here. That really sucks. Oh and the tuition is always going up. Within the past 4 years it went up about 10,000 and it doesn't look like it's slowing down. Blah

Tristan

ithaca, like college in general, is what you make of it. So it really doesn't matter what mediocre liberal arts school you decide to attend. if you do go to ithaca though, you better be able to afford it.

Charlie

Making friends as a transfer student coming to Ithaca is a bitch. I've only transfered to Ithaca, and never to another college, so I don't know if it's just as hard at other schools. At Ithaca though, transfer students really aren't catered to. Coming in as a freshman, I would imagine things would be much easier. The Freshman attitude is "Make friends with everyone!" and everyone has that attitude because they're all in the same boat. But when you're a transfer, coming in during your sophomore or junior year, people tend to already have established groups of friends. It's not that people aren't nice or welcoming, it's just that it may be harder to make friends because by your second or third year of college, you're not really looking for new people.

Ruthie

Consider Ithaca, great school. I have no regrets!

Michele

Nah, I think you covered it all. All I can say, is that I love it here!!

Jo

If you're music, PT, or a smart film/tv student, you might be able to glean something useful out of this place. Don't come here for other stuff when you could go somewhere better. They also do not really follow through on their big sustainability trip: on "trayless" earth day there were trays stacked high in the dining halls, as per usual. Ithaca, as a whole, is a sell-out and a failure of an educational institution.

Christine

Ithaca.. you either love it or hate it. there really isn't an in between.

Brian

This school sucks balls. Choose somewhere else

Rob

I've loved my first year here and I definitely recommend Ithaca College.

Cody

This school really drains your pockets. They're always upping tuition costs, and nothing on campus is free or cheap.

Miranda

It sounds like I don't like my school. But I do.

Jamie

I feel very safe at Ithaca College. Not too many crazy things/crimes happen here. Of course things do sometimes happen, but overall, I think the city and the campus are very safe. The cops are always around keeping parties in check and making sure everyone is safe.

Heather

In relation to the hate crimes I mentioned, some of the racial crimes that have occurred in Ithaca, the town, especially the high school between "country" kids and "city" kids astonish me. It's like they are decades behind the rest of the country or at least where I grew up. I think that they colleges that really are such a big part of this area should get involved in erasing some of this blind hate. And, IC needs underground sidewalks!

Peter

I wish to support the African-Latino society of Ithaca College for this survey competition
