What is your overall opinion of this school?

I've had a great experience at Ithaca. They really do at good job at making incoming students feel welcome. Between Freshman Year Experience housing, IC Peers (a social networking site for incoming students), orientation activities, I definitely felt like I entered Ithaca with a group of friends I could rely on which was a big deal to me because I had a lot of anxiety about finding friends since I was going into college knowing no one and having no connections. Coming from the Midwest, Ithaca was a BIG change for me, but all very positive. I was born and raised in Chicago and was always used to having a big city around.. and no hills. I went to a high school with 4,000 students so Ithaca's size was just about what I was used to. I grew to love the size of the town, and view it as a perfect college environment. It's big enough that there are always things to do, but small enough that its easy to navigate. There are an abundance of shops, underground cafes, hippie markets, etc, along with Purity Ice Cream aka THE BEST ice cream ever (although some people do disagree)! Academics at Ithaca are what you make of them. Depending on the class and the professor, you can have a great experience or a terrible experience, a challenging experience, or an easy-breezy experience. For the most part professors like to get to know their students, and especially in Park, they like to see their students get involved with on-campus activities. If you're the kind of person to do this, great, then do it. If you're like me and a little on the shy side, find people to join activities with, see what you like, and stick with it. Overall, Ithaca is great, but I'm a strong believer at a school like this it is what you make of it. I've met my best friends here, I've gained a lot more social and academic confidence, and I think it has helped me grow into a stronger person that can quite possibly succeed in the real world.

I'm incredibly glad that I chose to attend Ithaca. The few problems I have with this school is the lack of ethnic diversity. Also, it may be difficult to get a great financial aid package. IC's population is just right. In addition to seeing familiar faces, you get to see new ones as well. Whenever I tell people I go to Ithaca, many respond with "Cornell?" It's a shame that Ithaca isn't as well known as other universities. Students most frequently complain about the weather but it's not that bad so far.

Kelsey

If you have not heard before, 'Ithaca is gorges.' This phrase plays off of the abundance of the gorges and waterfalls surrounding the Ithaca area. It is true that Ithaca College is gorgeous as well. The landscape is kept up during the warm weather and the snow does make the campus pretty in the winter. A running joke about Ithaca is the weather however. Ithaca could be considered the London of NY since it is very common to have grey skies and lot and lots of rain! I bet every female student at IC has a pair of rain boots... they are that essential! Regardless of the weather, the college allows students to experience both urban and rural activities. There is a mall, several shopping plazas, and a couple movie theaters nearby. There is also a plethora of restaurants to try! When the weather is nice there are many different trails to hike, including the Natural Lands, which Ithaca College owns. Near the college there is also 'The Commons,' which consists of many small artsy stores and quaint restaurants. It is a nice place to go on a date or go shopping with friends for the day. For night life, there is 'College Town' that is located up near Cornell University. If 'The Commons' feels too mature for a weekend hangout, 'College Town' is the place to go. I am not 21 yet, but some of my older friends like to go to bars in 'College Town.' When on campus, there is usually a variety of things to do. There are many different school clubs and organizations constantly holding events. For high class performance, the theater department puts on plays throughout the year and the music students have recitals almost every night. There are a lot of sporting events and many athletes on campus, but the attendance for such events are not as high as one would expect. One of the shocking things I have found as a student is that there is not a lot of school pride. The only exception is Cortaca, the football rivalry game between IC and SUNY Cortland. Even that event however, is mainly a huge drinking fest. Despite the lack of student pride among the majority, I am proud to go to Ithaca College. Whenever I tell someone I go to IC they usually have good things to say about the school or at least have heard of it before.

Ithaca is a beautiful city located on Cayuga Lake, but Ithaca College is ... well, it is disgusting. The building on campus are from all different building eras. They do not match and they are ugly.

Harper

Ithaca is a great school if you are looking for a mid-sized liberal arts school. I think we strike a good balance between sports, arts, intellectualism, and political activity. Although I do thinks arts are more popular on this campus due to our extremely strong music and theatre programs, you will always see our football stadium packed for home Bomber games.

Shannon

Ithaca's beautiful campus and caring, world-class faculty are two of its strongest assets. The town of Ithaca is AMAZING - endless things to do: great downtown ("The Commons"), independent movie theaters, incredible farmer's market, Cayuga Lake, wine trails, gorges & waterfalls, camping, "Collegetown" (Cornell neighborhood), etc. It was a wonderful place to live. It's a medium-sized school, which I found to be just right. Definitely be sure to explore the town when you visit the campus - go during fall for the ultimate effect!

Mike

Ithaca pretty much sucked for me.. I knew the kids would be sort of out there but I didn't expect what I found at all. Everyone was really cold and it seemed like nobody was willing to step up and make an effort to meet new people. When I told people I went to Ithaca all they would mention was the extremely cold weather and the liberal nature of the school. While on campus I spent most of my time in the dorms because it was too cold to be outside and there was never anything fun to do. School pride is basically nonexistent and it's really disappointing. People don't ever show up to football games unless its Cortica which is an absolute joke. All in all I would never recommend Ithaca to anybody, and I will be transferring to Northeastern in the fall.

Jill

I think that IC is the perfect size- with just over 6,000 undergrads- not too big and not too small. IC is non- denominational and you can practice any religion, services for Catholic, Protestant, and Judaism. Ithaca is GORGES! Beautiful water falls and hiking trails. However the winters are very long and often windy up on the big hill. Lots to do with Cornell so close by- great college town! The school is looking to increase diversity and always strive for everyone's acceptance of one another. Tuition is VERY pricey- but you can apply for financial aid and a few scholarships. The college can't compete with other schools unless it raises their prices- still though, it is too much moneyCortica Jug is the best football game! Cortland vs IC- and boy is that a party. Very sustainable school- you will definately end up recycling if you didn't prior to college.

Dan

Ithaca is beatiful. It has an amazing feel to it, the campus has gorgeous views, it's reclusive without feeling lost and personal while feeling big. It is gorgeous in spring and summer, after Halloween it's cold until St. Patricks day. It gets harsh but the winter landscape and sledding opportunities provide enough distraction from the weather. It is a nice college town with the quaint "Commons" area downtown and just a 15 minute walk from campus. With beautiful live music, homey stores and restaurants gallore. One experience no one will forget is Cortaca. The Cortland-Ithaca rivalry football game ignites such school passion and positive emotions from both sides. Everyone is happy and in good spirits and its always a good game.

Lauren

the campus is beautiful and everyone is so friendly. the farmers market on saturdays and sundays are amazing, and the life downtown is a lot of fun. many great stores and lots of great resturants to try out.

Josh

Ithaca is perfect size, not too big, not too small. I spend a lot of time at park because I am a TVR major. Ithaca is a college town, Cornell is right across the way. Ithaca is a great school, and it is absolutely beautiful up there.

Greg

Best thing about Ithaca is the mix of people (jocks, computer junkies, activists, sport enthusiasts, eco-conscious go-getters) The City's laid back atmosphere. Its very much a college town between IC and Cornell, lots of bars and restaurants and two distinct social hubs including the commons and college-town. Tuition is high and continues to rise but you get your money's worth. Dorms are ok, upper classman housing is much nicer, professors in almost all departments are amazing (knowledgeable, easy to get along with and work with, some are accessible, some not so much) I spent two years living in the dorms then moved off campus with a bunch of guys I met freshmen year, best experience of my life. IC is also a pretty physically fit campus, the fitness center is constantly busy and I spent a lot of time there in my four years. If I could sum up IC in one line... I'd say that students work hard and play hard. For the most part people get their work done and work hard, but come days off or weekends, they love to go out and have a good time.

Ryan

The campus itself is really ugly. If you are looking for a pretty school to go to, this would not be the best one. It is really cold and windy for most of the time you are in school with the exception of september and the last two weeks of spring semester. The campus is pretty good in size. Most people think you go to Cornell when you say that you are going to Ithaca. That is kind of a let down. It is a GREAT college town. There are tons of things to do, and the entire town in based on the two colleges, so you are never bored! The only problem is that Ithaca College is on a hill, and there is nothing directly around the campus, you have to bring a car or take the bus, which only leaves every hour. The administration is ridiculous, you have to walk back and forth on campus to get anything done, and they don't ever know who you really need to talk to. I really liked that the campus is on a hill, it has great view and gives you a good workout!

Sam

Ithaca College is known for four things really: Communication, Physical Therapy, our music school, and musical theater. Our theater is ranked number 4 in the country according to the Princeton Review, and our radio station WICB has been ranked third in college radio stations. Our musical theater program is probably one of the most competitive in the country, and our Music school has a 100{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} job placement rate for musical education majors within 6 months of graduation. The Park School of Communications has two full working television stations, two radio stations, and an award winning newspaper. Ithaca College is all about hands on involvement in every aspect of your college career. The biggest downside to Ithaca is the cost, tuition alone is over $30,000 at the moment and climbing. However the college gives out tons of scholarship money to those deserving and in need, and for me I knew Ithaca was the right choice. Ithaca is a hippie town in general, so expect a great party scene, and lots of community festivals and events.

Jennifer

Ithaca College is a great school, and Ithaca the town has its own quirky charm that tends to endear itself to any student. It is important to know, however, that Ithaca College has changed its academic profile and reputation drastically in a very short period of time. Until about fifteen or twenty years ago, Ithaca College was considered a party school par excellence. Nowadays it is a top-tier institution that is respected for its challenging programs and vibrant atmosphere. That being said, the college is still in a transition period. The face of the campus is changing for the better, new programs are being added, more emphasis is being put on campus unity, new buildings to bring better concerts to campus and hold more large events, new academic buildings with state of the art technology and design, an increased push for campus-wide sustainability (two of the new buildings are Platinum-Certified Sustainable, making IC the only college campus to have two). Basically, IC is an exciting place that is moving into what will surely be a bright exciting future. It is a great choice for any openminded student who wants to be a part of something great.

Kelly

Ithaca is a really wonderful school. I feel like I am an actual student and person here rather than just another student id number. Everyone is always willing to help if you have any questions about anything under the sun.

Alissa

The best thing about Ithaca is the people and the community. It's really easy to meet people. If there was one thing I could change it would probably be the location. It tends to feel a little bit isolated in the winter. People are actually really impressed when I tell them I go to Ithaca, which always surprises me. I spend most of my time on campus, but I have an apartment downtown for next year so that's probably going to change. The biggest recent controversy was probably when they found the body of an Ithaca student near campus. His death was termed accidental, but I was abroad when it happened so I'm not really sure how it was dealt with. There is A LOT of school pride. On a prospective students tour one person remarked that he saw more people wearing the shcool's colors and logos than on any other campus he'd visited. The one experience I'll always remember was studying abroad. The most frequent student complaints that I hear have to do with the weather, but I'm pretty sure there's nothing the administration can do about that.

Shawn

Ithaca is the perfect size school, at least for me. It's small enough so that you know a lot of people and sometimes news can travel too fast but it' big enough that by your senior year you are still meeting new people. I thought coming into Ithaca that Cornell and IC students would interact more but they don't and that is perfectly fine with me. Ithaca is a crazy little hippie town but is almost like a city in how "diverse" it is. There is a lot of different types of delicious places to eat...which is important to me hah, and even tho the majority of the people are of the same race there are a bunch of really different types of people...there is a group for everyone. A lot of people smoke the reeferr which is nice if you enjoy that but if you don't, thats cool too you will definately find people who don't. We party a lot but again if you don't I hear there are a lot of sober activities to do on and off campus on the weekends. Ithaca gets a lot of good bands to come to the state theatre and other local venues which is pretty sick. I've went to a lot of good cheap shows around Ithaca. The administration is really involoved and helpful if you choose to use them. I'm in park and the facilities in the building are really nice for the different programs offered. There are people in Park at all hours of the day and night...its pretty intense if you choose to make it that way but you can also be in park and still have a life. Ithaca is a pretty sick place to go to school.

Heather

There are alot of great things to do in ithaca. There is not only the commons to go and walk around, but you have Cornell's College Town. Bubble Tea is one drink that you will more then likely get hooked on, that is if you venture over to College Town. When traveling over to Cornell, it is wicked easy to get losted. IC's campus is just right. It is great when you can walk to class and know half of the people that you pass. Cortaca is one of the "biggest little" football game. It is def. an event that is widely attended on campus. It is something that you have to go to, you can't just hear about it, inorder to get the competition between the schools.

Ashley

I love the beauty of Ithaca College. The campus itself is gorgeous, and it's surrounded by such a cute, little town. I absolutely adore the Ithaca Commons. It gets a bit cold there, which is why I wish that every building was connected. I also wish that the dining halls were a bit bigger. On Tuesdays and Thursdays there's barely enough seating for everyone. I like the size of the school. I never really wet to college town because I never wanted to worry about driving drunk or paying for a taxi. It's much easier to make to the bars in the commons.

Reese

The best thing about Ithaca is its atmosphere. During my first year there, I felt so relaxed. The feel of the campus is casual, and the safety is top notch. You dont have to worry about getting jumped late at night or anything like that. Plus, the campus is just plain beautiful. Everything is maintained well. Another plus is the campus location. It is secluded on top of a hill and everything is very close on campus. On top of that, you have the city fo Ithaca only 5 min away-and it contains every store, restauraunt, etc that you would ever need. Cornell is right next door and they provide some cool shows.

Abbie

The campus is gorgeous, minus the hideous buildings, but the setting is amazing Ithaca is known as a party school, but also a great liberal arts college, or people say, "oh that is where Cornell is, right?"...there is an unwritten rule, Ithaca has more fun than Cornell, and the girls are hotter!

Ashley

The best thing about Ithaca is the quantity and quality of restaurants. I would fill the commons more. The school size is just right. the walk to both ends of campus does not exceed 20 minutes. People always mention how cold it is going to be. I spend a lot of time in my dorm room with friends. College Town. I love the dean of the communications school. She can be your best friend. A boy accidently drown in our local pond while intoxicated and in a heavy storm at 4am. School pride is big for Cortaca Jug. There is very little drama at Ithaca. Food is repetitive.

Kyle

Ithaca is REALLY cold and windy. it gets to the point where you don't want to leave your room because it hurts to be outside! the college town has its perks, but to be honest the Cornell side of ithaca has been given all the good stuff: the good restaurants, the good bars, better quality take out places. There isn't very much school pride, and there is only one football game a year that people go to, and it's mostly just an excuse to drink so it isnt really about the football! the school can be a little too small at times, but i guess 6,000 is just right.

KJ

I have a love/hate relationship with Ithaca. For most students, as long as they stay away from the upper echelons of administration (ie: getting tangled up in Financial Aid or running afoul of Academic Affairs because you tried to step outside the system), they'll love the grownups there. I adore 98{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} of the teaching faculty on campus; they're wonderful people, very accessible, professional, and most of them respect their students while pushing them to improve, which is tougher than it sounds. However, the administration at Ithaca is run like an oligarchy, not a business that hangs its hat on the tuition dollars of students. In fact, the students don't seem to matter that much, in terms of voting power over Ithaca College's decisions. For example, when Financial Aid makes an error, and tells you you have X amount of dollars in your student account, and you make school purchases based on X amount... well, if they screwed up and you don't have X amount, you, the student, is NOT always right. In fact, you're NEVER right. You don't ever see X amount. Instead, you're stuck with Y amount. And they never tell you they're sorry for their errors. I spend most of my time in the Park school as a writing tutor. However, the elites at Park have kicked us H&S kids out, and we've been banished to Smiddy Hall, a decidedly less-appetizing building at the far end of campus. Oh yes, Park elitism. Currently, there are an extremely limited amount of computer stations on campus that give all students access to primo computing software like FinalCut or the Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, and more). And the computers on campus that have this stuff are only available to Park students. Not very good, since students other than Parkies need this software to do their own work, too.

Andrew

The best thing about Ithaca is the overall atmosphere. The size is just right, there's another college in town, and there are a ton of things to do there. If there was one thing I'd change, it'd be the attitude of Ithaca residents towards college students. Without the two colleges, Ithaca would be a dead town, but residents sometimes act like they'd rather college students go somewhere else.

Jerry

I really like the size of Ithaca, as far as the number of students go. It's big enough for you to walk across campus and see a few people you know, but also to see a lot you've never met before. And there are a lot of great characters who you can mention in conversation, people you've seen around campus and have never actually talked to, but everyone will know who you're talking about. Ithaca is also a real college town, so there are a lot of things to do off campus. The Commons are a great place to spend some time, and there is also a place called Collegetown near Cornell University that has a lot of restaurants and cool places to hang out. There are a few annual festivals, my favorite being the Apple Harvest Festival, aka Applefest. It's the time of year in the fall when all the apple growers and bakers and the like set up shop in The Commons and sell their goods. It's fantastic. You should also check out the Farmers' Market if you can, there are a lot of vendors who sell produce, crafts and the like. The gorges are also wonderful, especially when it's warm enough to swim. One not-so-good thing about the Ithaca College campus is it's not very handicapped-accessible. There are a lot of stairs and not many ramps or elevators, especially not in the dorms. You also want to prepare for Ithaca winters, which can be pretty bad. Don't expect to walk across campus and not get salt stains on your jeans.

Lauren

Ithaca is a very unique school. The vibe that I get from myself along with most other students is that we are all here for the experience. We all want to do as much stuff as we can before our time at IC is over. This isn't just social things, but school. All of the professors I have worked with are all about getting actual, hands-on experience. From communication classes to outdoor recreation we spend as little time in a classroom as possible. The professors really listen to what you want and what you want to gain from each class. The city of Ithaca is amazing and has a personality all its own. There is always something to do and new people to meet. Being in the same town as Cornell, if Ithaca campus is too boring there is always something going on either at Cornell or downtown. More people go to the Ithaca v. Cortland football game than Homecoming, and if you hang around Ithaca for the summer it will totally morph and become an even cooler town that you are proud to be from.

John

The school is a good size, not too big but not too small. Cornell is just down a few blocks so i guess most of any attention goes to that school but overall when I tell someone that knows schools that i attend ithaca they are impressed-ish.

Andy

The big picture is that ithaca College is a decently small private college. It isn't great enough to receive large endowments from alumni, so it's tuition rate is ridiculously high. They are spending our money on new buildings and making ithaca look nice cause it usually doesn't. It does excel in the arts (communications, music, and theatre). If you're looking at any other major, DO NOT SPEND YOUR MONEY ON THIS OVERRATED PRIVATE COLLEGE!!! There is no school pride. None. At all. It's reallly cold. If you like being around other hippies to smoke pot with and your rich, then I guess come. You'll fit right in.

Reina

The best thing about Ithaca is the great number and diversity in food restaurants that are affordable and great-tasting. One thing I would change is the fact that we are not very close to a major city (NYC is 5 hours away). Opportunities in every regard is not as readily accessible here. IC is a bit on the smaller side, but it is nice to recognize and be recognized by others around campus, even if that doesn't necessarily mean that you are acquainted. People usually do not have any idea where Ithaca is, associate Ithaca with the movie 'Road Trip,' or associate Ithaca with Cornell University. I spend most of my time on campus in the Campus Center- eating, studying, working, wasting time. Ithaca is definitely a college town. There is even a portion of the city right outside Cornell University called 'Collegetown.' The biggest recent controversy on campus was probably the reported incidents of rape and the armed robbery. It shouldn't be denied that these things happen on campus, but it should also be noted that IC is a relatively safe campus and Ithaca is a relatively safe community. The two times when the school pride is most evident is during Cortaca (the biggest small football game between school rivals IC and SUNY Cortland) and on the last day of classes.

Aaron

I enjoy the size of ithaca because it is not too big that you only see people you dont know walking along, but then again it isnt too small that you only see the same people on campus. There is a lot of different faces but too many that it feels overwhelming. The campus here is beautiful many flowers, trees, and open quads for games and laying out in the sun. I live the Towers this year and my view over Cayuga Lake is amazing. I spend a lot of my time during nice weather outside on the quads laying and playing around with friends. When it gets cold, and it gets cooold here there are snowball fights, sledding on trays, and lots of fun in the dorms. Dorm life is extremely fun any where on IC campus. The Ithaca commons have a lot of little shops that are unique and fun to visit. It is a big brick walk way with restaurants and shops to be more specific.

Emma

I hated it here at first. I'm from the West Coast so it was kind of hard to get to how people are around here. Like, a lot of the people that go here are kind of snobby. The best thing about ithaca is brunch on the weekends, when they have tater tots. and the warm weather. when it's warm here, it's so beautiful. But when it's cold it is hell. There is like no school pride here.

Margaux

Ithaca was the best decision I have ever made. The class size is perfect, the student body, faculty, and staff are accepting, and the atmosphere is fosters a learning environment that goes beyond the classroom.

Steve

The biggest recent controversy on campus would probably be that we had a rape on campus recently. After the girl came forward a couple other students came forward and said that they had also been raped. It became a very big issue on campus, but ultimately I think that there has been serious progression towards rape awareness.

Amy

Great sized school. Not to large, you are not at a huge university where you get lost inside a big lecture hall. But at the same time the school is not so small that you feel like you know everyone on campus after the first year or two. The size of the school allows you to get to know a close group of friends and meet more and more people on top of it. However, it is large enough that if you want to avoid someone, it can be done fairly easily.

Tristan

Well, the big picture is you'll probably be happy here if you can afford it and you're not a minority (or you're a minority who doesn't mind being surrounded by upper class white people). For most of the degrees you get, this place is WAY too expensive. Exceptions for Communications and Physical Therapy majors. For everyone else, there are a lot of great experiences that might make it worth the $40,000/ year to attend.....eh then again maybe not. Overall it's hard to say what ic has to offer because there is so much variability among programs and ultimately it depends on you. The town itself is pretty awesome. The hippies wander the commons and generally don't hurt anyone. Cornell has good parties.

Britt

I love that IC puts an emphasis on hands-on experience. I might change the weather, because I'm already from a cold area and sometimes I wish I'd chosen somewhere with a milder climate.

Charlie

What's the best thing about Ithaca?: the Professors - I like all of my professors, they're very nice and very very helpful when you need them Is it too large or too small or just right?: I think it's just right, 6000 kids is a nice medium sized school - I still see new faces everyday How do people react when you tell them you go to Ithaca?: They ask me about the movie Road Trip ... and I get angry with them. Or they make a comment about hippies. Or they say, "Oh, I hear it's gorges there!" - people think they're really clever Where do you spend most of your time on campus?: in my room - sometimes I'll study with coffee in the pub, but since I have a desktop I have to do most of my work in my room. I recommend getting a laptop for college, it makes everything much easier. What was the biggest recent controversy on campus?: There was an armed robbery in oe of the Circle apartments, that freaked everyone out a lot. Also, a bunch of kids at Cornell apparently have syphilis. We got an email alert, in case you went to any Cornell parties and slept with someone, you might have syphilis. That was pretty funny ... just because the subject of the email was SYPHILIS! Is there a lot of school pride?: Yes, I think so. I have a bumper sticker on my car. Is there anything unusual about Ithaca?: Yes, it's a cute hippie town in New York. It's lovely and very unusual. There's a coffee shop in the commons owned by a religious cult ... that's cool. What's one experience you'll always remember?: I skipped class with three of my friends the one day when it was sunny, and we smoked a blunt down by Cayuga Lake. It was beautiful ... one of my best days at Ithaca so far. What are the most frequent student complaints?: Hidden fees! Ithaca charges extra money for everything! They're bastards about it!

Alyssa

Ithaca College is a very changeling school and most people that don't go to this school think it is easy. It is a great studying environment but I wish their were more activities other than the ones on Friday night. Everything that Ithaca College has for fun is on the Cornell side of town and you usually have to take the bus or get a ride from the expensive taxi.

Ruthie

I feel the size is just right. Not too big, but not too small. You can walk around seeing a ton of people you know, but you also meet so many new people. People ask me where Ithaca is a lot. I spend my time everywhere. The library, the quad lawns, this place called the pub, there is always somewhere where you can hang out. I will always remember being told I could join the crew team with absolutely no experience whatsoever.

Laura

The best thing about being in Ithaca? The forward thinking, leftist, community in which the College resides. The number of students is just right, though in the winter it feels as if there are 500 students as opposed to 5,000. As soon as it gets nice the kids come out of their rooms again. There are more than a few problems with the college though. For one, the cost. Next, the lack of quick transportation to the town down the hill. The close proximity to Cornell is nice but it's difficult to get there. Well, not difficult, just time consuming if you don't have a car. Another problem is the administration. The most recent "controversy" was "Chalk Day." Students covered one area of the campus with chalk. This is against the rules. The next day all of the chalk was gone. People viewed the chalking as an event that "brought life the drab, boring, literally beige area of campus". The administration, on the other hand, put a stop to this for fear of high school seniors seeing the chalk on tours.

Michele

It's a great school. The professors are always willing to help you out, and can basically always be easily reached. The students are generally very nice, but I think they might be a little clique-y [this might just be because I'm a music student, though]. It's not too big, but not too small and you can get anywhere on campus pretty easily. The town's pretty nice, but everything closes around 9pm, so you've got to find something else to do, but I've never found that as much of a problem. Plus, there's Cornell right next door. I'll always remember my first Cortica Jug - the big annual football game against our rivals, SUNY Cortland. There was blue and gold everywhere and so many people!

Jo

the park school is awful. they are biased, divided and wholly stupid and unorganized. they have poor professors and not enough class choice. ICTV can be a learning experience will just shaft you in the end and far from prepare you from anything real-world, like most of the damn park school. if you're thinking about switching in once you get to ithaca, forget it, you'll never be able to. They are xenophobic and generally just cruel. overall, with the rest of the majors, there is basically no reason to pay 40thousand plus just so they can decorate the school instead of funding anything. the park school has no new equipment, albiet needed, and the art student's teachers buy them clay as the budget is way too small. But it might be better with Peggy Williams gone... although this is doubtful, as money controls everything. There is little good here. Do not get trapped.

Christine

I love Ithaca. One thing I would change is the way freshman year roommates are picked, I picked to live with a girl that seemed really nice and for the first 2 months or so she was but then she ended up being terrible. I think it should be completely random based on how you answer a number of questions. Ithaca is the commons, Cornell and IC, and nothing else. A lot of people here play sports but they aren't as popular as they would be in a bigger school

Ithaca is an amazing area, with crazy weather. Winter seems to last forever, and it's extremely cold, but once the sun comes out in April, all the students are outside sunbathing and enjoying the weather. It is very hilly, so it's a good workout wherever you go. Although there are three separate dining halls, the lower quad/emerson/garden area don't have too many convenient options aside from Campus Center, where the food gets old very fast. The faculty is excellent and are extremely thoughtful when it comes to their students, especially the undergraduates.

The number one reaction I get from people when I say I go to Ithaca is, "Isn't that the school from Road Trip?" It's true - the fictional name of Ithaca University is used in the movie. But moreover, it's a school in a beautiful (though cold) part of the country. There's enough to do on campus and off, and shares the city with Cornell. There's something for everyone here. A big trend at IC is sustainability. It's speculated that it's being taken too far, and is somewhat counterintuitive. Our new Business School building is nationally recognized for it's eco-friendly design. This isn't really the type of school where you go around singing the school fight song, or cheering for the mascot (Actually, running around chanting for a Bomber might be more of a problem). I wouldn't want it any other way. There's school pride in the strong academic programs (communications, music, theater, physical therapy, etc). There's pride in athletics. But it's not D1, and things are a little different here. One of the notable experiences for IC students is Cortaca- the annual football game against rival SUNY Cortland. It alternates where it's held each year and turns the campus into a bit of a drunken mess. It's in good spirit, and its the only real athletic rivalry we have.

This town is absolutely beautiful when the weather's nice, but we get more days of rain/snow per year than Seattle, and the winter can seem like it lasts forever. This year we kinda skipped spring altogether... it snowed in mid-April then jumped to consistent sunny weather in the 70s out of nowhere. The view of the lake/sunset from campus is incredible, it never gets old. When the weather IS nice, there's always people out on the quads throwing a frisbee around or just laying out in the sun. Also, cliff jumping at the gorges is popular. Because it's awesome. The student body (roughly 6,000 undergrads) is a great size because there are always new people to meet, but you'll spot people you know on campus all the time, too. Parking on this campus kind of sucks. This is the first year I've had a car, and even though I live about a mile from campus I walk to class because driving really isn't much faster or convenient. I lived happily for 2 years without one, though, bumming a ride when I needed it from friends.

The school is a good size. Nobody knows much about Ithaca when I go for job interviews so it isn't very helpful. College town blows because Cornell kids are doushe bags. Recently there has been a lot of rapes and administration has done nothing in response.
