My overall opinion of Johnson C. Smith is just like any other college campus. It is what you make it. Granted I never wanted to attend a HBCU, but I blocked out the fact that it is an HBCU with the goal of me finishing what I started in obtaining my degree.

I love my HBCU. It’s very rewarding to attend such a historically life learning institution . The learning environment is very educational as well as knowledgeable. I’m pleased with my choice to attend this fine I establishment. I enjoy all of my experiences thus far.

Johnson C Smith University has the ability to be a true premier school. I enjoy the small atmosphere but it is lacking in retaining students, providing true academuc assistance, and providing funds for students who truly need it. The housing and campus food must change. The Univeristy will need to move to a No-Smoking Campus. There is small support, but it should be a campuswide support that supports everyone. It saddens me to see students transfer because they are not happy with the overall campus. They feel betrayed. I chose to stay because I want to make a difference as a Golden Bull.

Johnson C. Smith is a historically Black college. There is always different activities or events that are being held either on or off campus. The students are always so welcoming and friendly. The school/community is like a family; everyone supports everyone and is always there when you need a hand. If you are far away from home and you are not used to the weather or being at a predominately-black school then it can be a culture shock. Johnson C. Smith is a HBCU but there is a mixture of all type of different races and cultures that go here. I love this school because it is smaller than other colleges, so it gives you a chance to get close with your professors and form a close bond with them. The dorm rooms can use a little improving on them but they are working on fixing them so they can be a better living area for the students. The food is not the best but if you like, high school food then you will like this food as well. Overall, I love the school and would not choose no other school/college.

  2. What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

    When I was growing up, I was able to see and learn the value of college before even attending yet. My mom had gone to college to get her AS, and BS and is a Supervisor at Butte County Probation, with a great salary. My dad, on the other hand didn't attend college, and hasn't held a steady job for more than 5 years. I am currently working towards my AS, and then will continue on for my BS in Nutrition studies. College helps an individual branch out and really experience every option that they may have other than struggling to find a job after High School. Without college, I would still be in my tiny hometown wondering what could have been. Working towards my education, though at times very challenging, is so fun, and gives me something to look forward to about my future, and gives me something to be proud of. I hope to possibly work at a hospital making meal plans, and helping families work towards a healthier lifestyle. I couldn't possibly do that without college.

    The Food quanity and quality. It seems like sometimes they don't care about what we eat, and there is not enought variety, specifically there are no really healthy choices.

    In comparison to some of the other colleges I considered Johnson staff and professors where very approachable during the campus tours. The campus is smaller in comparisons to some of the others I was considering. I like the small student to teacher ration. The school is a Historical Black College but there is a largely diversifed. There are many ethnic groups attending the school.

    The classes are interesting at my college. Discussions can be brought up and it helps you get a better understanding of the overall topic that day.

    The most popular student activities are the basketball games. It's just something about the whole student body crowded in a gym screaming at the top of their lungs that just over joys me. Since i play drum set at basketball games there's never a dull moment in my eyes.

    I enjoy the school I attend. It's very student and oriented and the teachers are always willing to aid students in their thirst for knowledge.

    One stereotype is that band students have a higher passing rate. That statement has been proven true many times, but any other stereotypes I have not heard of.

All students must apply yearly for financial aid. This process starts with the FAFSA. Though financial aid deadlines vary by school, it is a good idea to apply as soon as possible. For the upcoming school year, you can apply as early as October 1 for the FAFSA. Additional school aid will be dependent on the FAFSA results.
