I love my school! I feel that there are always people here to help me and guide me in any way that I need. Also, there is not a better place to receive your basic academic courses that will prepare you for a major university. The classes are smaller, which allow you to have a more personal relationship with your professors and classmates.

Overall, the school is great, but I, and many other students, believe the dorm policy is too strict. Because of this, some students may lack time management skills by not having the opportunity to practice this responsibility. During exams, the curfew is shortened to 11 p.m. every night. What happens when dorm students have jobs that close at that time. How can someone get into their rooms without receiving a fine? This is why many people believe some of the dorm policies are too strict.

It's a very good school to receive a fundamental education from. I feel as thought I was challenged academically to produce good work. The teachers has a through knowledge of the material they taught. They were very friendly and wanted to help me succeed.

Jones is a great starter school for students who are unsure of what they would like to major in before going to a university. They have excellent staff and great facilities. Jones is known for the small class size making it easier to learn and understand.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

College is so much better than High School. Pay attention to Mr. Hathorn, he is a good teacher and far harder than anything you will face in college. Don't panic, it will all work out great. Mom is right, listen to her advice and quit being such a pain when she is trying to help. Electrical Engineering is a blast! What Mr. Hathorn is teaching WILL help you. Establish a routine as soon as you start college and stick to it and include a workout program. That Freshman 15 comes hard and fast! It's fine to play around some, but you have to keep your focus on your goals or you will wake up and find it is year two and you still don't know what you want. It is ok to miss your parents and its pretty nice to have them visit on Wednesday for a date to eat sushi!

What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

Nothing. I am enjoying my JCJC experience.

What's the most frustrating thing about your school?

Night class meets even if day classes are out.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

Use every moment to learn something new. Remeber not to procrastinate. Do everything you can at the beginning of the semester, so the workload isn't so heavy at the end of the semester.

What's unique about your campus?

The best thing about my school is there are always people that are willing to help students. It isn't always just teachers. Peers, advisors, and the faculty are extremely helpful with any aspect of school.

What kind of person should attend this school?

Students that come from a small high school should come to Jones County Junior College. JCJC is an average sized campus. The stress of college is more than the stress from high school, so a student should not go directly to a university.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

I would definitely tell myself to not go straight to a university (which, is what I did my freshman year before JCJC). I went to a very ill-preparing high school and I was not ready for the shock of a big university and college way of thinking. JCJC is a great transition with teachers who truly care about your academics. I would definitely say that the teachers at Jones are better than the University I attended. They are better trained, they are universal and communicate with each other, and they are not grad-students teaching you.

What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?

I wish I had known how to better deal with the financial aid office. JCJC is a great school. I love everything about it EXCEPT for the financial aid office. Every other department is great and willing to help you.

What's the most frustrating thing about your school?

Definitely the Financial Aid office. They have a terrible system going on there. The people you talk to up front seem very untrained/uninformed about financial aid, so if you have any questions, you're probably on your own. You will ALWAYS wait in long lines and will not be able to get through on the phone. They take FOREVER to process your financial aid. Every semester that I have been there, they tell me I've got everything together for my tuition. Then, I go to get my books and the financial aid is not processed. Very frustrating.
