There is nothing I wish I would have known. I did my research and asked my peers and couselors about this school. I know I made an excellent choise.
The importance of balancing fun with work so as to avoid the negative effects of stress.
I wish I had known more about how the major/minor programs worked.
I wish I would have known the difficulty in finding financial aid for someone in my position. While the college does offer extensive academic scholarships and grants, it is impossible to inform the FAFSA that, simply because my parents make a decent salary, does not mean that they are contributing to my overall college costs.
The prevailing message to me about college was that it would be incredibly difficult and stressful, and it is true that the amount of reading and homework has been a challenge. But I wish someone had aslo mentioned how engaging it is to be taking classes much more diverse than just "math" or "english." I wish someone had told me not to worry about trying to get involved, that Kalamazoo Campus has a whole Service-Learning department dedicated to getting students involved in the community. I wish someone had admitted that the academic and social frenzy of college is wondeful.
I wish I would have known more about the social life.
The school is very small and there are not very many extracirricular activites to choose from. Also, the social life is not that great.
I wish I had known more about the living options and meal plans.
How much snow Michigan gets.
How big my department was.
How small it really was. The lack of art community. The consequences of using a quarter system instead of semesters.
