I believe as on line students we are often characterized as people who wouldn't be accepted at traditional brick and mortar institutions. People often equate online schooling with the old mail in schooling of the 80's. People assume that your grades and degree plans are somehow less than those earned by traditional students. They almost discredit you in their minds eye without knowing any other facts about you or your school. The truth is none of these stereotypes are true. The students at Kaplan University are very dedicated to their degree plan. The professors are very dedicated to teaching. We have live seminars once a week and an on- going discussion board during the week. Each unit has assignments and required reading and are often accompanied by graded quizzes. An online student has to be self-motivated and want to achieve. Kaplan University is an accredited learning institution. Our degree plans are equal to traditional learners. We are pioneers of online learning. It is up to us to prove we are equal to those of traditional means.
There is no clear stereotype at Kaplan.
My school has some of the most dedicated and intelligent students. They are focus on their goal and want to achieve the optimum in their life. They overcome challenges with a great pride.
As before I decided to go back to college to better my learning skills , terminology, and concept as well as a dehree and continue in my education to the end.
Many people think that an online school is a joke. Others think that it is a school for lazy people. I can assure you they are wrong. The only difference between Kaplan University online school is that you don't have to drive or walk around a campus. No more worrying about getting to class on time. At Kaplan class times are very flexible and are designed around your busy schedule.
There is no stereotyping at Kaplan. There is however other students who are going through the same things you are! Most of the other students are attending because they are stay at home parents to parents who are taking classes online between work and kids. Or even other students that are working and only have time for online schooling.
The most common stereotype of Kaplan University students is that we are lazy people.
Since everyone at Kaplan online is from various places around the country and you cannot see them, there is not a stereotype. They, just like you, are there to learn. You never have to worry about fitting in.
Everyone thinks that just because we attend KU's online campus, we are lazy. This couldn't be further from the truth. We work extremely hard. It may not be at 8 in the morning, we may not be dressed in our best, it may be Thanksgiving morning just before we go to Grandma's house, but we still work hard - we just do it on our own time. (Yes, we get holidays off, but we are still able to turn work in if we want.)
Stereotype depends on the course. For business administration, most of the students I have met are intellectual.
The stereotype of students at KU depends on the degree program and how classes are being taken. For me, I am a Business Administration student online and most students I have met are all extremely intellectual.
the stereotype of students is that because we KU students don't go to a campus based school that we are somhow lazy people.
That we're all lazy because we are doing online classes.
