I love the environment at Kent state. I've met a lot of other new students , sophomores and juniors and everyone was so easy to get along with and talk to. I felt really comfortable when I visited Kent state, I've met my roommate and she's great. Its like we're twins , Kent state is very diverse and all my classes are new my dorm building . I cant wait to fully attend Kent State University.

While the campus is overall pretty nice, and there are plenty of great students and staff on campus, it has given me a lot left to desire. I don't entirely feel safe on campus, in part because another student was sexually harassing me and the university did absolutely nothing to address the issue, despite Kent touting itself as taking high priority in dealing with sexual harassment. Greek Life has a very strong presence on campus and it's basically at the point that people think you're a loser if you don't party or join a fraternity/sorority. Usually if an incident happens at a house, it gets swept under the rug and the organization responsible/hosting refuses to take responsibility. The food provider changed to Aramark last year, making food more expensive and of lower quality. Healthy options are around but are not cheap. The service of food itself is very poor. This year Aramark completely took over management of Kent State's dining services, and switched to a hybrid declining balance/swipe system which just seems convoluted and confusing. My major is music education, and to say the facilities on campus are lackluster would be an understatement. While in recent years Kent has poured a great deal of money into upgrading the rest of the campus and adding or expanding buildings, there has been very little attention given to the performing arts building. Music and theatre majors are left with an outdated building that is too small for the needs of the majors. Kent has no plans to make any improvements to the facilities either, and overall funding for music functions are very poor. They will go out of their way to fund away game trips for the football team, but God forbid they allow funding for a music recruiting tour. For my choir's spring recruiting trip I had to pay around $500. Many of the faculty and professors of the music department aren't the best either. My choir director, Scott MacPherson, was amazing, but many of the other music professors seemed to not know what they were doing or not caring about the needs of the students. The actual repertoire of the various ensembles was well chosen, but not challenging. Many pieces I did in my high school's ensembles were more challenging than work I did even in the top-auditioned ensembles at Kent. Between my experience with the Human Resources department, the toxic Greek scene on campus, declining food quality, and the lackluster funding and maintenance of the music program, I can't recommend attending school at Kent State, at least as a music major. Many of my friends in other majors have also expressed overall disapproval with the school, and of the 5 people from my high school who committed to Kent State, 3 of us transferred elsewhere within the first year. There are plenty of other schools in Ohio with better programs, such as Baldwin-Wallace or Ohio State. Pittsburgh and Pennsylvania also have better schools, many of which with similar or cheaper tuition than Kent. After my freshman year I transferred to Penn State and have not regretted it one bit. Seton Hill, Duquesne, Gettysburg, Pitt, Slippery Rock, even IUP are probably better schools than Kent. If you're accepted to this school, proceed with caution. Unless you're majoring in Architecture (or as my KSU friends refer to it as, Architorture), Fashion, Aviation, or maybe Nursing, and you have a substantial scholarship or full ride, there is no reason to go to this school. Within the region and price range there are much better options.

I love Kent State University! The campus is beautiful and safe. The surrounding area is also great and the academic side is just as good. There are great resources to use. Everyone that works for the university is friendly and helpful. There is a group or organization to benefit everyone. The food is good too.

I think that Kent State is an amazing college to attend. My program is in the top 5 of Ohio and growing. Being a student at Kent is a very humbling experience and makes you feel like you're at home. Even though we are a big campus, there are many activities and events available all over.

Kent State University, is very modern, the campus size is huge but there is always something fun to do, my favorite is movie nights, and you will find many people like you. The school has lots of pride, a variety of choices when it comes to food, I may be overly spoiled. :) Every dorm has its own thing that makes it special, for example, my dorm has Starbucks connected to it, so I don't have to leave my building to get coffee:).

It is a very nice place to go to college. It feels like a college campus, not a college stuck in the middle of a city. There is always activities to do everyday, and you get points for going to them. I have never felt unsafe on campus and i regularly walk by myself at night. It is a great campus with teachers who actually care about what they're teaching. Yes at times i feel like i am being robbed because of how much im paying for college here, but i love it.

I think it's a pretty well rounded school. There is a lot to do but you have to want to get involved and be a part of the college community. I had a lot of fun. I think the key is to make sure you try to get involved early on when you're a freshman. Make as many friends as you can, be open minded about meeting new people and trying new things, and stay positive and optimistic!

What is your overall opinion of this school?

If it wasn't for my friends I had made, I would have left. A total of 10 of the degrees is all the university seems to care about. Aside for professors and academic advisors, anybody higher up at the university, aside for President Warren seem to not care about the student body. There is a lot to do and get involved in, as I had been a member of Greek life, intramural, attending athletic events, Hall council, and have worked on campus. Students are typically welcoming which is great, and we have a decent diversity within the university. There have been several incidences that has made campus not the safest. With everything being said, I truly feel I have wasted 4 years of education, money, and time at this university. I love my friends, but that is the only thing I feel has been a true positive with my time at Kent. If you think about Kent Sr ate, and not want to come for the degrees they are known for, I recommend looking elsewhere as the education and tradition isn't the focus on those running the university.

What is your overall opinion of this school?

Kent has now become family. Fellow schoolmates and also the people of the community are very welcoming. If you are ever worried about studying away from home, Kent is the place to be. A small town with safe surroundings, good people and good atmosphere. The food is ok, but that's up to personal preference. Overall, the good definitely outways the bad and I wouldn't consider going anywhere else.
