Kent State University at Kent Top Questions

What's the most frustrating thing about your school?

Justin

First and formost the most frustrating thing about my school is their organization or lack thereof. Anytime a student needed to get a question answered, a form completed, or simply navigate the school website there are always issues making the process take three times as long as it should normally take. Many a time I have spent weeks trying to get a simple question answered or find an application on the website all the while knowing if things were better organized this would not be as big a problem as it is now.

University is huge and sometimes you have not enough time to get early in your next class. you have to run especially when your schedule is too busy, to get in your class, you have to cross some ways to get in,that's not easy, some students fed up sometimes and do not go in their following class, especially when the class does not have any concern with their major, this situation is much tricky in snow times when roads are pratically out of walk, in this period most of campus ways are empty, like there is no class.

Jeannette

The only frustrating thing I have really come accross is the price of books. We are not told how much our books will cost, or what the books are even going to be. Because of this, it is harder to plan my family's finances around school.

Darr

I will attend in the Fall so I haven't had any negative experiences as yet.

Sean

Finances, trying to find money to pay for colleges. Its a small town so if you can't drive jobs also can be hard to find if you are not on top of things.

Alyssa

The school's need for more school spirit and desertion on the weekends when games are is very frustrating.

Jada

Kent State University has amazing programs, but it is so expensive.

Ashlie

The most frustrating thing was finding scholarships on the website because it wasn't made obvious where to look.

Brandi

I'm a transfer student so I haven't actually started at Kent State yet, so I really don't know about any frustrations. However, I just hope that the school is really diverse because, I want to get to know new people since I'v e been raised around mostly black people all my life. I'm choose this school because, it is really know for fashion, which is my major, and I know that by attending this school will greatly help me with my future.

Denise

There is not one frustrating thing that I can think of at my campus.

Jennifer

Getting around when there is bad weather. Very hilly and they don't always plow the sidewalks.

kaitlin

nothing really

Joseph

The most frustrating thing about Kent State University is that being social is usually reliant on going to parties. I have never been much a "party goer", and believe it has interfered with finding more quality friends. I am able to make friends with my classmates, but doing something with them usually has to involve going out to party. This correlates as well with my frustration over the lack of entertainment surrounding the area. For a college dominant town, I believe there should be more entertainment alternatives than partying.

Christian

The most frustrating aspect about Kent State University is the apathy shown by some students toward the rich and diverse history of the University. As a Kent State student, I am elated by the prospect of historical seminars and lectures that cover the heritage and historical impacts of events such as the Kent State shootings. I feel that these events make our University unique, and should be required knowledge for any current or prospective student.

Katherine

I am most frusterated that I don't get as much money from the university as I would like to help with furthering my education. I am at the point of not being in an underprivlaged family but I am not in a wealthy family. My family and I struggle to pay tuition and books to get me through school because I rarely qualify for fininancial aid or scholarships.

Briana

The most frustrating thing about this school is that it feels like no one is here to help you get money for scholarships.

Alexandra

The most frustrating thing about my school is the work amount for my nursing program. It is a very difficult program and you have to spend a lot of time studying to work for your grade. College should be challenging, but not to the extent my program is.

Jamie

There is one thing that I find the most frustrating about my school, and that is there is no privacy. Privacy in the meaning that there are no places to study that are at least 90{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} quiet. I have a very particular study method that involves very little people and noise surrounding me. The fact that every place on campus is student friendly and welcome makes it hard for me to find that privacy or quietness that I need to study and focus on homework or study guides.

Kendall

The most frustrating thing for me, is the location. Yes, this is the best school in Ohio for fashion, but it is just that, the school is in Ohio. I want to see the fast paced fashion world for what it is, in it's major cities. I wish dearly that I was in New York City because, frankly, Ohio is pretty uninspiring.

Rachel

Walking to and from classes in the throes of northeastern Ohio snowstorms is an absolute nightmare; by the time you reach your building, you're well on your way to hypothermia!

Lukas

The most frustrating thing about school is the amount of homework and studying you have to complete. I spend over 20 hours a week doing these two things. Let alone my 16 credit hours im taking this semester. It trully is like a full time job. You have to fully commit if you plan on getting good grades and succeeding at school.

Anthea

The most frustrating thing about my school is that there are some classes that i would love to take but are not offered. It is very hard for me to be involved on campus because the majority of activities are at night but I am a day-commuter student.

Amnea

Finding money for the tuition and hidden fees when you don't receive enough aid from the school or government.

Sierra

The most frusterating thing about Kent State University is that a lot of people who attend the college are not friendly. The majority of the students are not willing to make friend outside of their group of friends.

Kiera

Some professors have an attendance/participation grade. I don't think students should be "forced" to come to class. If someone is irresponsible, or doesn't want to come to class, that should be something they need to worry about--not the professor. Students should be responsible for learning/knowing the material and that's all.

Kayla

The most frustrating thing is that when a student goes above the college freshman level, they no longer receive midterm grades. I find this very frustrating in some of my classes. However, if a student keeps a record of their grades and can track their points, then not receiving midterm grades is no so much of a problem. I believe that the receipt of midterm grades are more of a tool to help freshmen in their first year of college. But having the status update for every class would be nice every semester

Natasha

I'm not really sure if i think there is anything that is frustrating about my school its self. If anything that is frustrating it is the things that have to do with me, such as my grades, homework, tests ect.

Kaihla

The most frusterating thing at kent State wouldn't be the campus so much but just some of the classes are difficult and can be frustrating. The good thing however is that there is many tutors and you can go to the Professors for help anytime as well. Getting used to being away from home and living in a dorm was tough for me at first but i met many new friends and there was so many help in support from the staff here through those hard times.

Paula

The most frustratig problem that is being worked on is parking. We have grown so much, so fast that there is not a lot of parking for all the new students that come in every year. We have initiated things such as Bus service, taxi cabs, biking while on campus to save on parking- not only easier, but healthier attitudes being a little more green. If you need your car, park it at a grocery store then take the bus. It is your best option,

Amanda

Sometimes there is miscommunication between different offices. I learned the hard way that it's best to go directly to your major college instead of an advisor, professor, or undergraduate relations.

Allison

Parking on campus is competitve. Every Kent spends a lot of money renovating the grounds which are unnecessary and could be used for something with more than an appearance purpose.

Zachary

I think that the most frustrating thing is trying to find all of your classes.

Danielle

The workload in some classes is very heavy. Sometimes it seems like you aren't going to get it all done in time. I've had to pull all nighters to complete assignments because the professor didn't give a reasonable amount of time for it to be completed by.

Cara

The most frustrating thing is probably the weather. The winter can get really bad, and the wind is very strong sometimes when walking to class. The rain can pour for hours on and off, and it can keep students from going to class. It also causes transportation issues when it comes to weather. The buses run slower, and in the winter, some walkways are blocked. Currently, the construction is an issue. There are buildings being torn down, and built. In the long-run it will look great, but as of right now, it is causing minor issues including the noise.

Jeri

The most frustrating thing about Kent State is deciding what extracurricular activities to attend. Kent gives it's students so many options in clubs, sports, and other groups that it makes it difficult to figure out how to spend my free time. There are so many different activities which will help me in my future resume that are both fun and educational, almost too many to narrow down. From soroities, to club sports, to religious, educational, and major oriented groups, the only thing frustrating with Kent State is figuring out which to chose!

Katelyn

I live on the north end of campus in one of the very first dorms built. We have a wonderful place to eat just next door to us but its hours are so frustrating. It closes at 7 each night and at 2 in the afternoon on Friday. They are not even open on the weekends. So in order to go get food (that doesn't need heated in a microwave) we must walk across campus to one of 3 other dining services areas. Its not a far walk but it is a little frustrating at times.

Andrew

The most frustrating thing here at school would probably have to be trying to get to class in the winter. In northeast Ohio is snows alot and after a decent snow fall you have to cross the Artic to just get to class. On top of the snow it always seems like our whole campus acts like a giant wind tunnel and all the students always joke and say that it was built on purpose like that.

kate

I will have problems and ask the instructor who does not adequately tell me what issues to look for on a test or will simply tell me to seek help with one of the tutors available.

Heidi

I don't find anything very frustrating about my school at all. If I had to choose something though, I would say the parking situation. There are not very many parking lots available to students and there aren't very many pay meters available to park at either. This would probably be the biggest complaint any student at my school would say if they were asked this question.

Anthony

The most frustrating thing about my school is, the constant use of the internet to communicate and complete assignments. I prefer to learn and communicate on a face to face basis, working closely with staff.

Krystal

The programs and academic advising in my school has been very frustrating from day one. I am currently in my fifth year and needing a 6th year because the advising office made a mistake with my schedule in my junior year.

Leesa

The most frustrating thing about my school is the lack of pertinant communication. I have to go an extra semester and not graduate with my husband (he is going to a different college for his masters at this time) in December 2010 due to one class offered one time a year. Why does any college offer classes only one time a year? Having transfered from a different college and unable to follow a perscribed list of classes, communication is key! I now will graduate in May 2011 with a degree in Intervention Specialis for gradesa K-12.

Justin

The weather in the winter.

Kelsey

People visit home a lot on the weekends.

Emily

honestly, nothing really stands out, i suppose the weather, in the winter, and having to wait for the bus in the rain or snow.

Kailyn

The must frustrating thing at Kent is probably the distance between buildings. I'm getting in great shape from all the walking I do between classes. This is great in the summer, but not as enjoyable in Ohio's winters!

nathalie

Not having enough parking spots.

Ashley

The most frustrating thing about my school is my program I am in the professional phase of the athletic training program which means I have the schedule of a university athlete, without the perks an athlete gets. Sometimes its hard to work with the university for accomodations for summer housing the same as the athletes, class schedules with traveling with the teams, and other resources the athletes get like tutoring. Sometimes professors forget you have more than just that one class to take and cannot afford to read 3 chapters a night for one class.

Sarah

The most frustrating thing about Kent State Universtiy is the lack of knowledge some of the advisors have. It has been hard for me to receive the same answer from different advisors, so I have had to search and develop information on my own which is sometimes challenging when scheduling classes.

Barbie

Trying to get help with financial aid through the financial aid office. And the nursing program needs work.
