What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?

Shehtaz

I wish someone had told me to go to my Orientation Weekend events! I only went to a handful, mostly because I was under the (mistaken) impression that my orientation group didn't like me. The truth of the matter was that I never gave them a chance to get to know me, nor did I really put myself in a position to make new friends. Sitting on the Quad on my first day here, getting herded into a giant group for the Class of 2014 picture, I thought I was alone in the world. I wish someone had told me that making friends and having a social life would hardly be as arduous as I'd imagined.

Life at Lafayette was pretty good. Socially, a lot of activities revolved around greek life. The groups that friends form freshman year stay pretty consistent for the next three years. I wish I would have known that making friends is very important during the first month.

Before I came to this school I wish I would have known the large amounts of time that must be dedicated to studying in order to succeed and do well. I must study significantly harder at Lafayette, than I did in highschool in order to recieve the same good grades. It is very important to be able to balance work and fun, but a lot of time must be dedicated to school work.

How much the social life is based on fraternities and sororities, and that if you don't get into one your life will suck here.

Most of the students on campus do nothing, whereas a small group of us do everything. It can be draining, but the friendships are worth it.

I did not realize that Lafayette did not have a particular sorority I am interested in. Though it is only somewhat important, I really wanted it to be a part of my college social life. Now it seems like I have to bring that particular sorority to my college, but I am willing to do that. Solrority life is also not as important as how well my education is, and at Lafayette I feel like I am receiving a great education.
